It might explain the cryptic "revisiting the lines" line in that notorious investor report.

My FB feed has some stuff suggesting that it's maybe happening ...but way off and nobody is even tasked to it. So even if it's true, it's way too soon to make any announcement. (Which is a pretty big sign that it's bogus.)

Even if it is real they won't be metal minis and the prices will be insane. Want a resin juve model, sure thing $18USD please.

A company wide email with a do-not-release tacked on.

This is how they will find those quisling managers who deviate from company orders, and so know which shops they should close.

My Northstar order just arrived and I must say I'm really happy with the sprues. So, in case GW decides to reboot Mordheim (sure), here's something you may consider buying:

Frostgrave Soldiers 20£
http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=7467
Front:

Back:

Undead Encounter 13£
http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=7489
Ghouls Front/Back & Zombies:

Skeleton Warriors:

(Sorry for the heavy shadows, but the image should be clear enough if you open it at full size)

More undead are also available on Mantic's webstore. I've also bought some metal wardogs and I must say they're quite tiny. They're large-dog size with real life proportions and I was expecting something larger.

PS: the jigsaw mat has still not arrived, but if I'm lucky I'll get it by tomorrow.

I thing every new release is metal (blisters) or hard plastic. The quality seems fairly good too, I don't see fusion lines or smudges; I've also been surprised by the dimensions, everything seems to be proper human-sized (IE: hands, heads) - but to be honest It's been a long time since I've last bought any minis, so maybe it's just the standard now (I remember old GW giant hands+heads minis from a long time ago).

The guy who posted the flyer said that the company wide email went out yesterday, but nobody said anything because they didn't know if it was a hush-hush thing. He said got GW approval to post the news.

I'm not sure what to think - on the one hand, I'd like to see those games return. On the other hand, with the current pricing structure, and the fact that something like this will be GW Online only, I don't see it bringing in any new players.

My money's on a lovely boardgame line, similar to the Assassins or Calth games, just so they can keep their IPs intact.

EDIT: Some commenter on BoLS says:

I sent an email to GW and they responded this: Thank you for writing in to us! Yes, we are looking into specialist
games, but we don't know when or what the product will be like. We recommend that you keep an eye on our website for further news.

DOUBLE-EDIT: GW Peterborough FB page:

So I've been e-mailing most of the day and here - hopefully is the end to the rumours!

There is a LONG TERM (at least 6 months likely more) investment into bringing back some of our classic beloved games from Specialist Games. This will NOT be falling under the auspice of the Games Workshop side of the business, but linked up with Forgeworld instead. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WORD on a timescale or indeed, which specialist games may be looked at, whether they will be given a rejig or anything of that nature.
I stress this is a while in the future - the team to oversee the project has not even been assembled!

That is the offical message I have now recieved!

DOUBLE-EDIT: GW Peterborough FB page:

"In the future, GW will put money into specialist games."

That's about as vague as it possibly could be, but it's definitely the best news to come out of GW for a long time. The main problem with GW relaunching anything is that they don't know how to make good games. Their current track record for new stuff is:
* Dreadfleet (abominable)
* that assassins game (not really a game)
* Age of Sigmar (:lol:)
* plus a host of updates to 40k that bolt on a series of problems to its 80s design structure
Unless they do some really smart recruiting into this new department and throw out their entire design process in favour of a non-1980's model (involving significant playtesting on a solid foundation of modern board game design), that's the kind of quality rules that GW are going to keep throwing out. Basically, this will only be good news if they also announce the new specialist games team is made up of veterans from other companies.

Necromunda is what I'd be most worried about. A £20 multi-piece plastic gang set (like frostgrave) would print money, but that's too sensible an option for GW, who'd likely split it into individual gangers for their current single resin figure prices (£12+). On the design front, Necromunda is still my favourite miniature game (with significant caveats and house-rules), but it falls fairly quickly compared to modern board-gaming. It's also significantly better than 8th Warhammer or the current 40k, which is hugely problematic. GW haven't learnt anything or improved their rules writing one bit.

It's worth pointing out there's one more game in their "recent track record" - a faithful reproduction of Space Hulk, which did update the rules but only lightly. A lot of people don't like Space Hulk but the point is that it was faithful to the original game.

That does not inspire a ton of hope, but it's something that actually happened.

That's a good point, and probably the best option for any of the specialist games.

I'm just excited to maybe be getting new models for some of these games, as expensive as they may be. I've been doing a lot of 10mm fantasy (mainly tolkein) stuff lately, and sure there are some alternates but most of them in the fantasy genre pale in comparison to what GW did for Battle of Five Armies and some of the Warmaster stuff I could use for subbing in if it was a crazy overpriced in the second hand market. Similarly, there are a ton of space ship games out there but (personally) most of the models I don't like as much as those that were created for BFG, generally.

It might be because there isn't really a GW store around me and I don't play in clubs (because there aren't any near me really) but I'll just take the models and use them to whatever rules I need them to fit to. Would be great if they start making good rules as well, but I'll just be happy to have more options back on the table for the pieces themselves.

I would wager that, assuming they go with the actual SG games, and not a revamp, they will just reprint the books and resurrect the minis lines. NetEA was in progress while SG ws selling the core rulebook, and there was no issue - Jervis even gave the project his blessing, for the most part. Obviously, this may change with the new CEO, but I think we are still looking at something that is a long way off, so I doubt there will be any major issues. (Though I would like to see the Army Champions stop dicking around with lists just because some guy in their community is pissing them off.)

Speaking of shutting down projects, does anyone know why the community BB was killed, while NetEA was allowed to continue? I've always been curious about that - I kind of wondered if there was bad blood between GW and the community organizers or something.
