True but this still feels very much in the vein of Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Gotta agree with the consensus though that the combat is way better but the dialogue is worse. It's great your character is voiced though. They do say some great poo poo. If you need proof of this go find the town of Goodneighbor and do The Silver Shroud quest series.

I meant to mention my simultaneous lovely and awesome luck last night. I ran into 3 Legendaries in the same area! All went down relatively painlessly. One gave me a - damage from Animals armor piece, one gave me a +poison resistance armor piece, and the last - a Mirelurk - gave me a pool cue with + damage to humans. Seriously game? Well, that's basically true of every melee-based enemy. It's especially useful for legendary varieties. Shoot their legs out right at the beginning of the fight, so they're much less of a threat by the time they mutate. Feral ghouls are especially vulnerable to that.

In some ways, but in other ways I think the new system has just as much depth, with multiple ranks of each perk and more ability to come up with a specific build and stuff.

Tin Tim posted:

The dialogue is the biggest issue, both mechanically and in writing.

They made the huge Mass Effect problem where you only have dialogue choices with like one or two words, so you'll see like "I'm not sure" and you click that, and it ends up being like "yeah I could probably help you out but I'm busy, I'll come back later" and you're like "That isn't remotely what I meant to say".

I mean most of the time one of the options is just "Sarcasm" and you have no idea exactly how it'll play out. I loving hate that poo poo. It was a huge problem in MassEffect and the later DragonAge games but Bioware never seems to have realized it. And now Bethesda seems to think it was an improvement.

What I want most right now is a mod that makes the player character completely silent and shows me 4 actual sentences of dialogue options instead of 4 words which give a vague feeling but not really of what you're going to say.

Yes, but perks have replaced skills, you get one every level and they are largely replacing the flat small increase. The difference is honestly pretty minor and if not for the dialogue system sucking ti would be kind of straight better.

Basically, yeah. Instead of e.g. putting points into lockpicking until it's high enough for a given lock, you now just have a perk for lockpicking where each of the levels allows you to crack a higher tier of locks. Personally I like it, because while you can still specialise into a given weapon family you're no longer completely gimped when switching e.g. from guns to energy weapons because your skill in those is just some four points.

The Local Leader perk in Charisma is supposed to make this possible. As far as I can tell from my limited experience with loving with it, it shares materials like adhesive and screws, but might not share junk items like wonderglue. It definitely doesn't share workshop inventory so if you're storing weapons and armor in the workshop, you'll still have to go back to that specific settlement to get it. Also you can't share constructed items like generators and turrets between settlements which suuuuuucks.

In any case, once you have the perk, open up the workshop interface in your settlement and find a settler, look at them and you'll get the option to have them create a supply line. I have Strong do it because he's always sitting around my settlement bitching and he gets upset whenever I step into my Power Armor.

It also helps that you now specialize in automatic weapons, single shot rifles, single shot pistols and heavy weapons. That's probably my favorite change out of the whole perk system.

Is there a generator in The Castle somewhere? I see all this electrical equipment but it isn't wired to any power source. I went back to Sanctuary, gathered the parts and went back and made one to power the radio tower but it seems like there should be one, what with all the lights on in the basement and all.

I also just switched to using Preston "Envy My Hat?" as my companion and I was clearing out a ghoul town, running low on ammo so I had just a town full of ghouls missing legs flailing in the streets. Oh good here's a room filled with boxes of ammo on the counter! Preston runs in, ninjas all the ammo and runs back outside and uses it all, completely failing to kill a single ghoul in the process. Welcome back, companion Doge.

The most annoying thing I've encountered so far is the inability to leave menus in a hurry due to animations. I was in a crafting menu when 3 Super Mutants decided to wander by my gas station. I heard gunfire and started making my way slowly out of the menu, but by the time it actually closed and went back to first person, a suicide bomber had taken out a couple machine guns by charging through them. Minor to be sure, but still annoying. If I heard people shooting at my house IRL I'd probably drop everything on the floor and hit the deck immediately, not slowly move away while placing everything gingerly on the table.
