Ammo seems to be pretty scarce, except for the .38 used by those horrible pipe guns. I have like 500 rounds of it. Have you guys found anything decent that shoots .38? Or is the point that you're supposed to upgrade the pipe weapons? Do you ever get something like the ammo press in FO3 The Pitt?

I've been upgrading the scrounger perk, and because of it I have no idea how much ammo I have for my combat rifle, .50 cal sniper rifle, or laser guns because the HUD display caps out at 999 and it never goes below that. Shotgun ammo is a little tougher and I'm staying at a steady 400 despite buying all of it that I can get my hands on. Scrounger is real good though, invest it it.

The pacification skills seem fairly useful.

I am playing a weak charismatic lucky gal relying on criticals and automatic guns, so to pull maybe 1-2 of anything out of a fight is useful (and you can just headshot them after when you are ready to get their XP/loot). Recently got the incite skill for animals and it has helped with wild packs of animals as not only is your pacified enemy out of the fight they tie up another for the duration. I guess when I can incite humans it'll be even better.

Speaking of energy weapons, one of the Diamond City merchants was selling a legendary laser rifle with deals 2x damage to enemies at full health. That merchant was holding on to the gun for the entire game, so I assume it's probably there for everybody. And let me just say that it loving owns bones if you turn it into a laser sniper rifle. Blows the ballistic sniper out of the water with its incredibly high initial damage, low recoil, and semi-auto nature.

Yeah he's selling it for me too. Pretty expensive but seems really good. I bet it makes for some sick sneak attacks!

I have more ammo than I can ever realistically use even without it. Seems unnecessary since ammo was never a problem outside of the first few hours.

Try using a Plasma based weapon on Survival. It's almost always out of ammo. :smith:

I'm using mostly energy weapons this time around and ammo's a real problem, because all of my guns (I don't have any plasma guns yet) use the same type of ammo. I have a highly-upgraded 10mm pistol that I swap to when I'm getting low on fusion cells, but having almost every weapon use fusion cells is a big downside to using mostly laser guns.

Old Faithful is incredible, grab it as soon as you can. It's my main gun now. Blows Righteous Authority out of the water.

Anyone far into the game know if you get a settlement you can really customize? Like a good chunk of flat land that doesn't have a bunch of buildings you can't remove. I'd like to actually make my town. Not just add on to something that already exists. A giant wooden fort like out of the trailer.

Just for folks who wonder about specs - I got this thing running on my fiance's HP laptop and that thing has like a 2.2ghz i7 and a radeon 8670m. Now granted it's with the ini hacked to poo poo but it runs 720p at a pretty steady (30s-ish) framerate.
If you don't care about it looking like last gen-style fallout you can probably run this thing on whatever.

Just wanted to share that for folks out there with spec-envy.

The dart gun in fallout 3 did the same thing, it was a 0 damage weapon that instantly crippled the target's legs regardless of location

There are a few settlements which are good for customization, one of which you get almost immediately.

when a location on the map says [cleared], can you start building on that area or is it just telling you its safe from enemies so you can gently caress off and never come back Scavver.

Am I missing something or does the Boston Airport settlement not have anything. I can't build, I can't find the workbench to initiate it. I have it on my map and I did the BoS quest that's made it show up. I can even assign settlers on trade routes to it. But when I go there, there's nothing that indicates its an actual settlement.
