Multiplayer is the only reason this game is anything more than something I would pirate, play for 10 minutes then uninstall. I want to farm with my friends.

I'm real excited for multiplayer cause it means I can putter around in farmingland with my girlfriend, but I'll also definitely play solo because I love harvest moon games

It's really quite perplexing why it isn't. Grognardy games have huge popularity on PC, just look at Minecraft.

I'm playing through the latest build, so let me know if you have any questions. I'm going to avoid story stuff because I think it's something people should experience themselves.

Also yes to multiplayer, It's something I'm personally waiting for. It'd be great to play this co-op with a bunch of people.

Well let me ask the simple one. Is it a game and is the farming stuff enjoyable? How does the tertiary stuff like mining and crafting work and fit into the whole?

Does story stuff advance as you get to things, or are there events that you cannot just wait till next year to do and such if you ever want to do them?

I'm confused about how Multiplayer works. (And also sad because nobody I know plays Harvest Moon even though I love it)

Does the farm operate on a daily basis as long as there's one person logged in? Or does it only work if the entire crew is in at the same time?

i don't think it's been said yet, but most likely one person is the host and the other farmers will connect to that farm. so it'll run whenever the host is on.

That's how I imagine it being, similar to Minecraft or Terraria's multiplayer concept.

Multiplayer: Will there be multiple worlds/save files so we can have a single player map and a multiplayer are separate, or is it all on one world?

Single Player: How does the map feel so far? Is the bunched up or spread out over a wide area? How much travel does it take to get between key areas?

I'm still pretty early in the game, but i'll try to answer these.

Demiurge4 posted:

Yes, I haven't played a game like this before but I'm really enjoying it. I haven't got far enough to get deep into the mining, but crafting feels very natural. I've been fishing and chopping down trees a lot, and i've seemed to pick up new skills and recipes in those areas.

Can you move the location of your house / that building / the watering hole? Or are they permanent? Gonna be rough to have a huge farm if your pond is all the way over there.

When you start a new character, are the mines the exact same as the one on your first character?

Does it feel feasible to do more than 1-2 things a day, or do you find yourself having to plan ahead for each day? Ex: This day I'll talk to Anne, Bob and Charles and fish, maybe tidy up my farm before there's no time left?

I don't think so, but you can place and demolish structures that you purchase, like chicken coops etc.

The mines are randomized, yes. I believe it's done with a number of different shapes for the levels, including some rare ones.

When I first streamed the game, the day cycle was shorter and it did feel like I was rushing to achieve a few small tasks each day. It is longer now, and I feel like I can perform multiple tasks without time catching me out as often.

Ignatius M. Meen posted:

How it works, at least from my experience early on is that you'll be given a quest or receive some mail that asks you to go visit a certain location or talk to a certain person. You can do this in your own free time, so there's no rush to advance the story as far as I can tell.

J.A.B.C. posted:

The town is very close to your farm, and that's where I've been spending a lot of my time so far. You can get around pretty easily just on foot, and I've heard later on you can get yourself a horse. You can set an option to "always run" which is useful.

Initial impressions are that it feels very polished, it's fun and aggressively charming, not to say there hasn't been a few hiccups along the way. I'd like to see multiplayer come to fruition before a release, personally. I've been trying to make free time to play some more, so I've taken to playing it during my lunch hour this week. There is a lot to do, and it's actually a bit baffling that just one developer made this game. I should just clarify that Concernedape was nice enough to ask us at Chucklefish for feedback and to playtest, as we're helping to publish the game. I haven't played a Harvest Moon-esque game before, but those that have in the office have been genuinely gushing about how this is the game Harvest Moon should have always been.

Last I heard he was designing the game so that on multiplayer people didn't have to be on the same screen as one another, Starbound-style.

You could be in the farm while your buddy is in the mines, and your two other friends are off at the docks fishing.

That's some basic poo poo though, this is 2015, why do people think it's gonna have split screen?

Yes, you can buy sheep (and a pair of sheers). I don't know if you can make sweaters, but I'm guessing you can get wool from the sheep.

Jesto posted:

Are all of the job options viable to focus on exclusively to earn enough money in the game?

What happens if your HP = 0? You wake up in your bed the next morning?

You can make money in multiple ways, so I'd say it's at least viable to focus on one thing, whether that be fishing, mining, farming etc. The more you do a certain task, the more you'll increase in skill. You also learn new crafting recipes in that skill. You'll probably find yourself doing a bit of everything though.

So far, the HP bar only appeared when I was in the mines, as that's where all of the combat has taken place for me. I haven't died in the mines myself, but you get taken back to the top of the mines when you die. And you lose items.

Jesto posted:

You can build and place structures on your farm, including wells. There's also an option to upgrade all of your tools, like the watering can etc.

Dude is still remaining frustratingly tight-lipped about it. One thing that does concern me, though, is that one of his fans asked him on Twitter if being labeled as single and multiplayer on Steam meant that it would be released with multiplayer, which ConcernedApe confirmed. That would imply he's not releasing until both are done, which could take quite a while.
