ZenMaster posted:Wouldn't selling new ships at 1-2 bucks a pop be more lucrative than hundreds? I mean, if every backer bought a new ship (if it was made affordable) when it came out that would be a million bucks, but funding is nowhere near that. You can easily make more money on a product by selling fewer units at high prices. It just depends on the type of customers and your product. They sell their ships like Hermes sells Birkin bags. Keep the supply low and people will pay much higher prices for exclusivity in their owner club.

I guess he'll never be the wrist of a major corporation But seriously that we're having these arguments is evidence enough that the project is FUBAR. The fact that they can't just show the public what they have so far and let the work speak for itself should tell any reasonable person that there has been some serious mismanagement. How hard is it to just put fraps on a QA guy's computer and upload it to youtube?

Octopode posted:Comparing percent complete to percent currently planned rough orders of magnitude and estimating specific release dates are significantly different tasks. The former ought inform the latter, but the latter isn't a prerequisite for a reasonable estimate of the former, particularly in an environment where plans and goals change often. Rebaselining a program is basically an admission that something hosed up, and that either the technical challenges were greater than you expected, that your ability to project the productivity of your workers is poor, or that circumstances outside of your control have influenced development. There are no circumstances outside of CIG's control that have influenced development so either they hosed up estimating the technical challenges or they hosed up estimating the capabilities of their own workforce. The answer, of course, is that they've done both. Normally rebaselining is a common part of project management; you evaluate the circumstances and take your improved understanding and experiences to establish a new timeline that (hopefully) has greater confidence than the previous one. It's a natural part of any sort of major development. The problem with CIG is that they have rebaselined so loving often that there is absolutely no sense of confidence or credibility left. The FPS alone was rebaselined so many times I've lost count. When that happens the idea of "percent currently planned" is meaningless because it's blatantly clear that there is no plan. Instead we have a bunch of talented, driven people being subjected to constant crunch time at the behest of a visionary with a history of terrible project management who arbitrarily changes things to suit whatever whims he has that day. There is nothing to compare because there is no plan. There is only whatever Chris wants. Here is the release date: November 2014. CIG told people to expect the game then, they received funding sufficient to meet that goal, and then they failed to deliver. Worse yet they are going to blast by the deadline that by their own TOS means things are so bad that there will be a complete financial accounting. Everything outside of that context, from excuses about expanding scope to their lead FPS programmer breaking his wrists to them changing the approach because it supposedly will improve things, is bullshit. CIG has absolutely no credibility left. Jared, Ben, Sandi, Chris, all of them are liars who will say anything in order to continue the charade that this program is well managed and things are perfectly okay. That you believe a word they say is ludicrous.

They actually did show some footage from the master build of the new Connie in a test location, but their capture rig for some reason was at under 15 FPS on capturing. The really odd thing is in the video you can see that the actual display is at least at 30 FPS-> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWmrP7DTE04&t=27m08s but when captured it's much slower.

Things get worse when they are spotted by the natives. Believed to be rebels, SG-1 is forced to hold everyone hostage. http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Window_of_Opportunity quote:On a routine mission to P4X-639, SG-1 meets an alien archaeologist Malakai operating an Ancient device. Malakai has his own motives and causes a time loop, where only Colonel Jack O'Neill and Teal'c notice. Furthermore, convincing the rest they are trapped in a time loop and that they have to return to the planet to stop it proves difficult when the same few hours from breakfast to the mission is repeated over and over again. These are my two favourite Stargate episodes, I only quoted the Seth one because it would be quite amusing if the founders of CIG turned out to be ancient Goa'uld.

On the one hand, if anyone with those credentials was dumb enough to post them on SA after signing 80 Very Serious Documents swearing not to do just that and getting clearance, we would have all grown up speaking Russian. On the other hand, if he was just an idiot or totally full of poo poo, I would expect him to just vaguely claim to run IT for the Pentagon or Area-51 rather than listing specific agencies/projects. My money is on him being a civilian just barely, distantly connected enough to one of those things to have heard of them without even meriting an internet privacy orientation seminar. Still going to be a highlight of this thread if one of the posters gets whisked away to a CIA Black Site for reprogramming.
