I used to think my gamepad just couldn't get signal from my bedroom but today I tried moving the wii u over a few feet and can now enjoy clear consistent classics from bed. I am excited to embark on this new adventure into the realm of comfy gaming tonight

There is an argument to be made for touch screens but that probably would have happened without them and it's done about equal amounts good and bad anyways. They make some cool games though

Mario kart 64 did have 4 player but as you can see from later installments they turned the focus away from same room 4 player matches and yet Mario party still does not have online. Nintendo did not use 4 player games until mario party and Super Smash brothers. The Defining years of Nintendo 64's multiplayer games that set the standard were all done by other companies. Smash brothers came out around the end of the system's life span in 1999. The Dreamcast would launch a few months later followed by the Playstation 2 the year after. In other words Nintendo with no significant second or third party support sucks balls. Because it wasn't Nintendo that put N64 on the map. Mario 64 came with it out of the gate and people were impressed but it was Rare and the other companies that built upon it and made it an actual contender, instead of joke like the later systems were. The touchscreen/dualscreen thing is a better innovation for Nintendo personally, because it resulted in a system that people actually bought, unlike the N64 and it's ultra-fragile stick.

The Dual Shock is what popularized the analog stick. Because mind you the Sega Saturn had an analog stick controller as well. Dual Shock's design also persists to this day and is very popular. In fact every system that has used the dualshock has never sold under 30 million units.

As I said, I just think the touch screen is used for as many terrible ideas as good and the dual screen after all these years still feels mostly useless to me with an occasional slight convenience I wouldn't notice if it wasn't there. The analog stick is just a thing that works and doesn't really have a down side. The only bad thing about it was that Nintendo introduced it on a lovely controller and didn't think that two of them would be an even better idea The other thing I'm getting at was that a lot of portable tech was trying to do stylus stuff before the DS so even if it didn't exist it's likely the iPhone would still be a thing, while with analog sticks both Sega and Sony were trying to make 3D games around not needing them and the N64 kind of made them need to adjust fast. axelblaze fucked around with this message at 08:07 on Nov 22, 2015 |

Now if PSTV was the default console then it would(and would also have it's own version of the controller instead of piggybacking on the Dual Shock 3 and 4). The regular Vita does not use the dual shock controller.
