My first game as a sub, I was followed around by two enemy subs for about 10 minutes, all shooting me at point blank with torpedos. I'm not even sure if they were trolling or just idiots?

High tier German torpedoes making ladder runs, US torpedoes circling and sinking their own subs, etc Firing fore/aft torpedoes all at a target in your broadside... Thankfully they don't do that.

How do you read the commander stats? I got 4 of them but I am not sure how to use them. I just started playing yesterday, I have the first german BB and US sub, though I think I had more fun playing as the starting DDs.

G7es Zaunkönig randomly sinking a friendly or enemy ship in an area 5700meters around the firing sub, including the german sub. That would be awesome, even more awesome if it were to replace the gold-ammo torpedo in german high-tier subs. Also I spend all my extra gold on Fleet Funds, so now we got the money covered but it seems we're still short on XP.

I just started playing this game last night and it's surprising how much fun it is. It's not Silent Hunter by a long shot but the arcade feel is just perfect for 10-15 minute matches and I love how terrible most of the players are in tiers 2-3. You don't even need to be in a sub to sneak up on BBs, they'll huddle together in a group and pay zero attention to the destroyer coming around the corner launching a billion torpedoes at them. Besides sneaking up on idiots in BBs it's a lot of fun to just hang out with friendly BBs in a destroyer or sub, torpedoing fools who get too close and spotting/destroying enemy subs. Is there much benefit to advancing into tiers 4 and beyond besides enabling the grind and getting into night battles? I'm assuming it takes longer to find a match and the gameplay doesn't change much to make it worth it.

Hover 3-4 km from the battleship cluster and just watch likely avenues of approach, avoid enemy cruisers (They will devour your DD), engage enemy Destroyers/Subs where opportunity lets you, and find stuff for the BBs to sink. Catching a submarine in a spread of torpedoes and watching him try to dodge in vain instead of go deep is hilarious. The Bagley seems almost worse than the Mahan for some reason. All its gets is one extra quad launcher (for two each side instead of one each and a shared launcher) but has worse gun arcs, and only one AA gun.

 Gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed to learn how the rarity upgrade works. I thought if you got a duplicate commander he gets promoted an extra star. Nope, you just get 20 points and it takes 300 points to upgrade from 2 stars to 3 stars. Oh hey, its 1000 Q.points for going from 3 to 4!  [edit] Got two of my favorite Kaiserliche Marine officers.  Warning History Sperg: Hipper is, of course, famous for leading Germany's battlecruisers during the Battle of Jutland. Luckner, however, is less known. He was the captain of the SMS Seeadler a 3-masted sailing ship (with auxiliary steam engine) that fought as a commerce raider during WW1. She captured/scuttled 16 merchants during her raiding (With only a single crewmen of those ships being killed in the process) only to be wrecked in an accident (either a typhoon or accidentally running aground while most of the crew and the prisoners were having a picnic on an island  , depending on who you ask). This was not the end of his adventures either!

Fire extinguishers, smoke bombs, repair parts, etc are one-use items (though several to a stack usually) and must be replaced after each battle (there is an option to have this done automatically). Their cost is pretty inconsequential after a tier or two. The ship equipment parts are not consumables, and can be freely switched between ships unless the part is marked as binding, in which case the only way to remove it is to trash it or pay 25 gold to remove it (it'd be cheaper to just purchase another).

Grinding right now, but had to work for eleven and a half hour today to fix the fuckup of someone else so am not sure if I finish the weekly quest today. But the Yubari proves again that it's the perfect 'win' grinder, it's basically a very heavy DD classed as a CL and it's incredibly fast and nimble and can punch really, really hard. Just lighting up everyone and sinking one or two ships is enough to secure a win most of the time. 11 battles with it so far, all victories, 7 MVP. I only survived 2 of those battles, but I play that boat very aggressivly and it just fits that playstyle so perfectly. I love it. e: ruined my 100% winstreak with the Yubari by beeing too tired to play boats, I'll finish the quest tomorrow once I'm home from work.
