I think there is supposed to be new footage of the new season during this week's episode of Gotham, whenever that is. No idea what will be shown- anyone know?

That ep had a pretty weak feminist message that shoots itself in the foot.

It could have been done a lot better but Duchovny and Anderson in paintball gear look pretty sweet.

Yes but that was also simultaneously the best goddamn episode ever. It was so bad, looked so awful, and was written so horribly it was just beautiful.

What are some good non-American folklore episodes? The ones that immediately spring to mind are Hell Money, Teso dos Bichos, and Teliko, but I know there are more. I always found those interesting because they use mythology in other countries I never would've known about otherwise.

The Gift. Native American folklore is American folklore, though.

e: Actually, it looks like the writers just made that stuff up and/or threw together aspects of a few different folkloric traditions for that. The Choctaw soul eater doesn't work like that at all. Never mind, carry on. Still a good episode.

Teso dos Bichos has this on its IMDB trivia page:

Originally the script called for hordes of common house cats to attack Mulder and Scully. Unfortunately, the cats refused to attack under direction and did pretty much nothing. All felines, from little kitten to big tigers, are absolutely lazy when having well fed and not in danger.

Yeah, Teso, Hell Money and Teliko are all kinda horrible to me, especially in the way they treat the cultures they're taking about. I like Arcadia as an even further westernized version of the Nepalese tulpa. Fresh Bones is cool if you consider voodoo non-american. Je Souhaite is pretty great for a later season comedy episode.

A lot of eps about non-western mythology are very much a product of their time and feel kinda wtf as a viewer in 2015. Lots of casual stereotyping and weird Mulder witticisms.

Trip report after two X-Files viewing nights:

First night, I stuck with Pilot/Deep Throat. Pilot was very well received, Deep Throat went over OK, but not as well as Pilot (although people enjoyed Seth Green as a youngster). With Pilot, everyone reacted big at the nosebleed-at-the-diner scene, which made me happy because that's one of my favorite moments from that episode. A lot of "oh shiiiiits" when that happened.

Second night was even more of a hit. I showed "Beyond the Sea" and ended up going with "Home" because I just thought this crowd would enjoy it. Was correct with Home. Lots of screams and "what the fucks," especially with the "I'm ready" line. Also got a big laugh at the Elvis scene.

I was proud, though, because they really seemed to enjoy "Beyond the Sea" the most. The ending is so effective, and everyone was totally silent when Scully delivered her final line. Then applause.

One of my friends that came said he already watched the first 5-6 episodes of season 1 after the first night we did this, and everyone requested we do a third viewing, so I'd like to think I've converted some folks. Success!

Neat article/interview with Morgan and Wong about "Home". The most interesting bit in it is that they had been ready to start working on a script for Millennium that would have Frank Black find the remaining members of the Peacock family when Fox found out and told them that "those characters are never to appear on TV again."

Reyes isn't even awful in the 2-parter where they introduce her, or when her and Doggett are getting their swerve on, but outside of that, yeah, yikes.
