Yeah, I get that and I'm using that now. I just want the minigame to exist for characters that don't have the perk for that lock level yet, so instead of clicking on a box and going "That's too hard." without actually trying they get a chance to try. I guess I view having the perks as "I'm good enough to defeat these locks with no problem, anything else requires effort." Basically auto-pass if you have the perk, play the minigame if you don't.

I can't wait for the GECK to make settlements matter and also configurable. Right now I'm avoiding ALL settlements because they're babysitting no-funs and there's nothing redeeming to them. I really can't wait to see what the mod community does for them because when they're not innovating advances in anti-gravity they can make some fantastic things.

I'm pretty sure the stealth ultra-weapon is, in fact, the stealth button. I'm 36, on survival, and I two shot assaultrons with my .50 pipe pistol, behemoths and sentry bots and mirelurk queens take three. Unless I actually use my crit meter, in which case it takes less.

While I get that people don't like the character lighting or think the game is too dark, the game is dark enough as it is and frequently hard to find things (see glow in the dark bobblehead mods) in general, so removing character lighting and making nights darker is not on my list of favorite mods.

There was one place in the railroad section where you could go up the stairs, but had I not had my flashlight on, i never would have noticed because the stairs are literally pitch black.

That's around the time I realized I almost always have my flashlight on for everything because the game is just too loving dark.

Best fix for Idiot Savant annoyance I've found, playing Harley Quinn on this run through found this to be acceptable since their no sexy giggles to maniacal laughs version yet. Now if only someone could make an animation mod to replace Blitz teleport with cartwheels and tumbling. Bamfing around is just not that cool looking unless you got blue skin, 3 finger hands and devil tail.

I noticed the Junk Jet VATS and crit/kill cams, only show poof of white smoke followed by NPC grunt.
The only reason to use the weapon is for that awesome slow motion shot following your coffee mug, teddy bears or stacks of cash through the air over long distances and eventually exploding a head or appendage off a super mutant. Is there anything I can adjust to bring new kill cam more in line with the old? It feels like they cheated the killcam for Junk Jet because they couldn't handle the ammo variety. Hoping that it's just something I did wrong though or mod can fix

Its there a mod that lets you swing melee weapons while off the ground? I couldn't find anything, but it really bugs the poo poo out of me that I can't bring a sledge down on someone's face as I'm coming off my jetpack jump up to the ledge they were just smugly sniping off of. Instead I gotta land next to them, then slowly recover from my "impact landing" animation and watch them stumble and wobble around before I smack them.

It's not too bad, just takes a bit of elbow grease finding static objects to spawn by. Then you can use dot syntax and placeatme, like so:

code:
000c3909.placeatme NPCID AMOUNT
which will spawn an amount of NPCs at the little barricade outside the Castle.

The two difficulty ones are madew with FO4Edit so should be safe, no idea about the other one.

Note to think of with the increased spawns mod, hes editing cells which in some cases has caused issues with power armor frames to constantly reset themselves.

I'm still only a few hours into my first playthrough, on Hard difficulty. I'm wondering whether to install the More Spawns, the Adjusted Encounter Zones, both mods, or leave things vanilla.

The second mod recommends starting a new game, but I'm guessing it should still work well for me since I've hardly visited any locations. I've done Sanctuary and Concorde, fought a few ghouls by some wrecked train carriages, and some gunners on the ruins of an elevated highway. (Wow, their laser pistols were really dangerous! Found a sweet laser sniper rifle on the top level, so delighted I stumbled upon that place.) I haven't even been to the Corvega factory yet. So I'm thinking those mods should work nicely and make all the subsequent areas of the game quite challenging.

On the other hand... I'm planning on not getting any of the weapon-damage increasing perks, or the perks for finding extra ammo or caps. I know lots of people have complained about the game becoming easy and players ending up able to unleash absurd amounts of damage by the middle of the game, but I assume most people are using perks like gunslinger/rifleman/commando to get magical 20%/40%60% damage boosts.

I'm trying to be a bit of a "jack of all trades" and so I'm switching between guns and melee depending on my mood. I'm using stealth occasionally, but I also enjoy having big firefights rather than sneaking around all the time.

If I just stick to modifying my weapons to enhance damage (I've already pimped the 10mm pistol to have high damage and fast reloading) and avoid the general damage boosting perks, do people reckon the unmodified game will provide enough challenge? Or have people found that even without the damage perks that things become a cakewalk, so I should still install Adjusted Encounter Zones?

(I might get the perk to increase the damage of heavy weapons, because I like the idea of using miniguns and flamethrowers and rocket launchers but apparently everything beneath the gatling laser is a bit rubbish.)

I'm honestly not sure. I prefer to play the first playthrough completely vanilla in any game, unless it's really horribly optimized or has bugs everywhere. I don't really have any new stuff to do anymore so I just install mods to make it harder, or at least more fun (like these). You can always just create a fresh full-save and continue without mods, if it's too easy in a few hours you can always go back to that save and install the mods.

Zodium

I would recommend upping the difficulty substantially, but maybe only after level 20. 1-20 was a mad dash for utility skills and not all that fun outside the scavenging, 20-40 felt more or less balanced, and 40+ was entirely stomping on hapless NPCs.

At 90, I run both of these with double level scaling, more legendaries and 5x enemy damage, but then it actually feels kind of balanced (in the sense that I'll die if I charge like 10 Gunners without popping a time slower, or without power armor). There doesn't seem to be any problem with loading these mods later on, for what it's worth.

EIIST

I don't think there is anything especially virtuous about avoiding the combat perks; just go with a good concept to help you with your upgrades. As you progress the combat can get surprisingly difficult if you can't put down enemies fast enough i.e meeting a Gunner with a Fatman. I'm a sexy charismatic genius mayor and a few levels in single shot rifles help a lot, as long as you stay over there.

I like the open ended character build, because later on you can start to take perks you missed but now want to try out. For example, I really appreciated night vision. Early on those kinds of buys are too frivolous.
