I'd say it's definitely possible. Between all those skill trees and alliance war, Vamp and WW stuff (and soul magic too I guess) the game throws a lot of cool skills at you. Some of which are probably underutilized because of how prevalent class skills are. I always get a burst of pure joy when I see the PRESS X FOR SPIDERS synergy pop up. A lot of class passives rely on having class skills slotted, so you'd be missing out somewhat.

Totally is. My stamina NB is a pretty decent powerhouse and only uses one skill from the NB skill lines (Ambush), which could easily be replaced with something else. The rest is from the dual wield and fighter's guild lines.

Is that your user name or the current character name? I can toss you a guild invite.

Also I do have a list of suggested mods that I wrote for a few friends a while back:

quote:

Inventory
-Inventory Grid View: this is just a handy addon that allows one to switch the inventory between the regular list and a grid http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info65-InventoryGridView.html
-Crafted Potions: very simple addon that assigns rarity colors to potions so that you can tell at a glance if they are crafted potions or vendor trash http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1232-CraftedPotions.html
-Dustman: a utility mod that will automatically mark items as junk to cut down somewhat on inventory management http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info97-Dustman.html
-Harven's Trait and Style: adds the Style of an item to its tooltip while also informing you if you can research it http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info436-HarvensTraitandStyle.html
-Roomba: a godsend for guild bank management, where it scans the bank and automatically stacks all the stackable items in it http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info402-Roomba-GuildbankStacker.html

Chat:
-pChat: an overhaul of the chat window that adds a lot of features that makes it a must-have including saving the chat between sessions http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info93-pChat.html
-Harven's Chat Completion: simply put, it's an auto-complete feature for the / commands http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info555-HarvensChatCompletion.html
-Guild Chat: pretty handy addon that assigns colors to a guildmate name in chat so that you can tell what class, level and faction he's currently playing as http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info494-GuildChat.html

Crafting:
-Research Assistant: allows a player to assign who focuses on what to craft and tells at a glance what items have researcheable traits so that you can put an item in the bank for the crafter to research http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info111-ResearchAssistant.html
-Sous-Chef: ResearchAssistant for Provisioning; allows marking recipes so that the ingredients required are highlighted and can track which character knows which recipe http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info163-SousChef-ProvisioningHelper.html
-Potion Maker: overhaul of the potion making interface that allows to assign favourite recipes and also filter quest-only potions http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info405-PotionMaker.html
-Craft Store: a massive crafting UI overhaul, with windows tracking writ objectives and the ability to (for example) craft batches of Glyphs http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1047-CraftStore.html
-Harvest Map: simple addon that automatically adds the location on the map for any resource node that you've gathered; it also allows sharing the nodes locations between characters on the same account http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info57-HarvestMapEsoheadMarkers.html

Misc:
-Photographer: allows taking screnshots with no UI elements just by tapping the assigned key http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info371-Photographer.html
-ESOTheater: displays a list of all the emotes and also has a "favourite emotes" menu http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info59-ESOTheater.html
-Harven's Potions Alert: a must-have addon that automatically switches the quick-access item to the assigned potion if health/stamina/magicka drops below the assigned threshold so that you don't have to fumble around the Q menu when you really need a healing potion http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info562-HarvensPotionsAlert.html

UI:
-S'rendarr: a simple buff timer tracker http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info655-Srendarr-AuraBuffDebuffTrackerupdated.html
-Foundry Tactical Combat: UI overhaul that adds buff-tracking, floating text and modified bars. Personally I only use it for the health/magicka/stamina numerical values on the respective (default) bars and the damage tracker, but it is pretty flexible with what you can do with it http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info28-FoundryTacticalCombatFTC.html
-Awesome Info: handy addon that adds a clock, durability/charge/intentory space warnings and character research timers http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info192-AwesomeInfo.html
-Loot Drop: while Zenimax finally added a "loot gathered" indicator, this is still a handy addon since it can tracks experience gains and gold spent/gained while in a merchant trade screen http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info206-LootDropwithveteranXPdisplay.html
-Harven's Improved Skills Window: pretty handy with more extensive skill tooltips http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info489-HarvensImprovedSkillsWindow.html

Misc:
-Shissu's LUA Memory: helps when running multiple addons http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info883-ShissusLUAMemory.html

You can definitely do it on regional level once you're done with starting faction - they're all V1, V2, V3 by then and you won't get oneshotted for wandering to wrong part of the map.

Yeah, the Steam sale on this is really hard to resist. I'm curious about endgame content, like dungeons and PVP.

I've watched some PVP videos on youtube, and it does look fun. However I've not really ever gotten that much into playing as a tightly coordinated team in a large realm vs. realm type of scenario. Is that pretty much required to have a good time in Cyrodiil? Or is there generally a zerg to follow around? Ideally I enjoy smaller team vs. team instances. Just wondering if I should pick this up.

With like three dudes you can gank people who are wandering around.

With about six dudes you can expect to take down enemy resources like mines and lumber mills provided you have minimal resistance or enemy player apathy.

If you want to take down some forts and complete those types of missions, you'll need more guys. Probably 20+? I'm bad with numbers. Once again it really varies on how interested the enemy is but you need guys manning siege engines, guys healing, and guys killing enemy players who are trying to wreck your siege engines. The same goes for defending a keep against a determined enemy.

If you want to capture an Elder Scroll, expect a big loving zerg.

I usually just roll with a big zerg, but the small scale stuff can happen provided you have good coordination.

Enemies have set levels, but it's not like most MMOs where you'll have an extra penalty (such as glancing blows) fighting an enemy significantly higher level than you. If you are careful, you can tackle things far above your level. You can freely visit high level zones and explore and gather there without being instantly squashed by the local wildlife. It's also extremely easy to get a taxi from people that have visited other zones.

The thieving experience is largely independent of levels and offers lots of recipes, vendor junk, and armor/weapons to smelt down.

Killing livestock can net you guts and meat, which I guess you can sell. Since you have only a limited number of transactions a day I really wouldn't recommend it. Might be worth it to launder it, but I'm not sure if laundering items uses up your fencing limit or if they're tracked separately. Break into and ransack houses for the biggest and quickest gains. Even containers that normally only have valueless stuff (food etc) will have special fenceable goods. You can make a good deal of money this way and level Lergerdemain pretty fast. Also a great way to find random recipes. I've found tons of blues and a handful of purples.

If you want to play with goons beyond a shared guild bank, mail, and guild chat, the majority of goons on the US PC side are Ebonheart Pact. There's no way to change your faction without rerolling.

You get a Fighter's Guild quest practically the moment you're thrown out of Coldharbour. It sends you just outside the city to check on some cultists.

Invite sent.

Fighters' and Mages' guild quests all have a minimum level required to access them.
Which means that if you are overlevelled (something very much possible if you do the starter islands (Stros M'kai and Bethnik for Daggerfall)) you can finish one quest for the Fighters and have a courier come up to you immediately after telling you that "the guild has further need of your aid!!!". :v:
As for the Glenumbra questline, you get the next one by exiting the city from the East gate.

Quest experience is basically unaffected by level, but if you're more than 3 levels above the monsters you're fighting, you get reduced kill experience (6 levels above and you get nothing). Staying the proper level involves skipping most of the content (especially under level 50), so don't try to min-max experience on your first playthrough. Just do whatever quests you feel like doing and have fun.

I believe they have changed the targeting on livestock. Find an owned sheep or goat and try to kill it. I think you will find you cannot. Un-owned goats like the ones around the Hundings site in the desert can be targeted, but yield no thieving experience. I don't know when they changed, but I think it is changed.

I'm finishing up the main quest now, having done every quest and all exploration/killing in every area (except fighters guild), no pvp and no group dungeons. Typically I've been 1-2 levels ahead of the quests/mobs, then 2-3 towards the end of each area. Pretty much perfectly balanced for solo play - the perfect MMO!

So, I switch server, and the drat game goes to re-download the whole client again. I grab all the files from the EU install, dump them in the US install directory its made, and then it just complains of an incompatible version and how it cannot proceed with repair. So I delete all the .version files so all the .dat files are there but it cant figure out the version, this works, but now its just re-downloading all the files on top of the ones that are already there regardless.

Pure madness, surely the US client cant be that different from the EU one? Thank god I've got fast broadband, its only going to take a couple of hours.

We were discussing mods in guild chat, but since /reloadui clears the chat log, I'll post my setup here. It uses FTC and Combat Cloud to create something vaguely reminiscent of early FTC.

Settings/Addon Settings/FTC:
  • Configure Addon Components:
    • Enable Combat Text -> Off
  • Configure Unit Frames Settings:
    • Player Frame, Target Frame -> Off
    • Default Target Frame, Label Default Frames, Show Maximum Health -> On
  • Configure Buff Tracker Settings:
    • Player Buff Format, Target Debuff Format -> Horizontal Tiles
  • Configure Addon Components/Unlock Positions:
    • Drag the dps counter up to the top left over the raid frame.
    • Move player buffs over your health bar.
    • Move player debuffs over your stamina bar.
    • Move target debuffs under the target health bar.
Settings/Addon Settings/Combat Cloud:
  • Font Sizes, Combat:
    • Damage, Healing -> 14
    • DoT, HoT -> 8
    • Everything else -> 18
  • Format Options, Combat:
    • Critical -> *%a*
Controls:
  • Foundry Tactical Combat:
    • Toggle Combat Log -> F5

So what's the status of goon groups on PS4? Someone else in my house got the game and I'm excited to try it, but I'm pretty sure that playing with goons is gonna be the thing that holds my attention. I'm assuming I should choose Ebonheart? Game came with explorers pack, so races aren't a consideration, I just don't want to get stuck without anyone to play with since it seems like PS4 goons are a minority already.
