Important question: Does he reference clerks or chasing amy at all in this video? Because I swear to god I've never seen or heard any kind of video or interview involving him where he didn't bring them up. He's like a nerd version of those fat old guys who never stop talking about how they "almost went pro in high school".

I only got halfway through the video, and only because I was doing something else at the time, so I can't tell for sure. As far as I saw, he didn't bring them up. I almost wish he did

Same reason hundreds of people will spout on about how much an unreleased video game will suck and then spend thousands of hours playing it.

The reason is because people are very, very dumb.

His star war obsession is boring but it's not appropriating someone else's culture(tm)

Nitpicking at a movie almost as old as he is is really dull but he's half in the bag from marihuana.

He had some good podcasts back in the day. Good man for an interview but alas

Oooh, I see what the issue is.
I didn't mean that he was APPROPRIATING anything. Just that he was boring and seemed like he was trying to use hip slang to sound cool.

I tried that video out and dropped it before half a minute. A tubby middle aged white guy talking street really wasn't all that awkward, so much as the grasping-at-straws complaining about a nearly 40 year old movie that's had its course thoroughly run on far better critiques. "Why didn't Vader just choke the guy from across the room?" More personal and fun perhaps? Wasn't necessary to make a point like the boardroom scene perhaps? "Why didn't the rebel grab dude's lightsaber when he was being choked?" Because he was being held up out of reach of it that we could tell. It's pretty much a bad video and Kevin seems to be at one of the lowest points of his career arc.

Well, that aligns with the vibes I was getting. Which was, like, "normal" kinda vibes.

The ABCs of SNL was a nice idea, where Kevin Smith would interview Jon Lovitz about his experience behind the scenes of SNL. It only had three episodes, though, and then there was a big falling out between Smith and Lovitz so Smith took his Smodcast network to another theater. I used to listen to a lot of his podcasts since my wife was a big fan of his movies and the podcasts, but he's really degraded in quality. I think marijuana is great to enjoy but I know that I'm not a great creative or super interesting when I'm stoned, and now Smith's gone whole hog on the pot train and he's not sober enough to realize that his ideas just aren't that great (see Tusk or the upcoming Yoga Hosers). Everyone of his podcasts seems like a trip down memory lane, and the one with the "learn something" angle (Edumacation) features Smith learning and re-learning the same facts over and over because he can't keep a memory locked down in his purple hazed brain. His big thing for a while was his Q&A sessions, but it's gotten to the point where he takes one question and turns it into an hour long yarn that doesn't include any new information if you're a big enough fan to see Kevin Smith live.

He talks about his personal life a lot, too. His daily routine, as he tells it, is to wake up, get high, read emails, "work" or watch porn, then eat a Thanksgiving meal for dinner. He's got a daughter, Harley Quinn, and the idea of growing up in a mansion where your increasingly addled father sits in his study with the smell of pot permeating the house and the maid makes snacks and sends them up the dumbwaiter for him boggles my mind. Maybe it's just a symptom of being comfortably wealthy mixed with sharing too much information, but the thought of that house and how Kevin talks about his wife (which mainly focuses on the topic of analigus) makes me grossed out.

There, now you know too much about Kevin Smith.

It always makes me sad when people blatantly name their kids after something nerdy, you're just going to doom them to ridicule during their formative years. I mean if you are going to do it, do something obscure, or half of it, like "Quinn" or "Harley," not "Harley Quinn."

I haven't kept up but the topic of his wife's rear end in a top hat is a recurring theme. He used to advertise for fleshlights by saying they were tighter than his wife's butt.

Very off putting. And that he had her making out with Dante on the set of Clerks 2 for a long rear end time.

Kevin Smith was asked to participate in a feature in Playboy where different directors oversaw a photo shoot, so he agreed on the condition that the subject be his wife, Jen Schwalbach. She nude (duh) and there's a Superman character there too. Tasteful, I guess. I wish I remembered some of the other directors who participated, maybe I'll look it up after work.
