Continuing on my trek through the stars, getting the end of season 2 of Enterprise and I have to say...it's not terrible, definitely ahead of Voyager. Revised order: DS9 > TNG > Enterprise > Voyager Wondering if i should go back and watch TOS when this is all over..any thoughts?

Lol at casuals saying McCoy isn't as much a main character as Spock and Jim The relationship between those 3 is the heart of the show and what makes it so great. None of the other series have been able to replicate it and that's why they aren't as good If you don't get that you don't get TOS and would be better off watching a technobabble show like TNG

Janeway found a renegade Q, Quinn, earlier in the show. He was a philosopher who wanted to commit suicide after Q being made temporarily mortal on TNG opened up many questions about immortality. On the run from the Continuum, he asked for asylum on Voyager. We got a lovely JAG episode where Quinn summoned Maury Ginsberg, the guy who found a disconnected cable at Woodstock, to tell the court that Quinn gave him a lift to Woodstock and I guess he banged Quinn's girlfriend? Anyway, Quinn was made mortal and he drank hemlock provided by Q and killed himself. These actions caused the Q and Girl Q gently caress (by touching glowing ET fingers) and Junior, later played by Keegan de Lancie, is created. The war ends.

Ein cooler Typ posted:Lol at casuals saying McCoy isn't as much a main character as Spock and Jim Yeah, it had strong archetypes with vivid personalities and goals that caused good-natured conflict among friends. B5/DS9 had them. TNG had flat bloodless background noise that one incredible actor rose above by sheer charisma. Oh, and one autist for comedy relief.

Coincidentally, Star Trek V spontaneously turns into Quality Star Trek at the one-hour seven-minutes mark and never turns back(I have that stupid movie saved on my computer for some reason so I could double-check the time): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ws-6rqbQBpc The Bible posted:TOS is pure garbage. If any of that showed up outside of TOS, it would be regarded as the worst episode of Trek ever created. Lizard Kirk loving Lizard Uhura would have been among the most highly regarded TOS episodes. you could do a similar list for TNG Some space dust makes every body bone each other, Data, while unaffected, bangs yar The crew encounters a race of tribal black men want to force one of the enterprise crew to marry them (Yar again?) The Royale as you mentioned The struggles of having a cargo load of 19th century Irish in your space ship Something something the holodeck malfunctioned/captured by aliens/whatever and Professor Data must solve a sherlock holmes mystery (like every season) Its easy to cherry pick the worst poo poo wow

TOS really isn't very good. Bad acting, weird 60s gender politics, bad makeup, bad sets, silly plots, deus ex machinas. Its value is based on nostalgia and precedent, but the show is nearly unwatchable now

Yeah that's why fitting TOS into "DS9 < TNG < Enterprise < Voyager" is tricky, because you have to account for the fact that it was made in a time when your parents or possibly grandparents were children and TV audiences weren't skeptical or cynical and nobody cared that the props were cardboard and spraypaint and sci-fi could unabashedly be about ideas Seems 100% obvious, right? But this is the goon trek thread so there's guaranteed to be some dumb piece of poo poo saying "LOL THESE RENAISSANCE ERA PAINTINGS ARE GARBAGE THEY DON'T EVEN LOOK LIKE PHOTOS OF ACTUAL BATTLES" and pow here he is

The details have changed but I'd still rather see a crappy TNG story than another goddamn cop show where Tom Selleck's family of assholes learn to feel empathy or some poo poo
