Placeholder Team Name $144.50 $105.50
Hawk Hunters $199.50 $50.50
I also caught and corrected a couple of minor errors on the roster sheets, mostly where I'd missed a player being dropped when it wasn't during a waiver transaction. Nothing that mattered, though, the teams were always well under their caps.

Unless CJ2K suddenly puts up like 40 points, I'm toast.

Brick squad lost!

Meaning, despite me losing as well, and going to 5-7, I could still make the playoffs. If I win next week, and 1017 loses next week, we'll be tied, with Points For being the tiebreaker... and I'm well ahead on Points For right now, probably with an insurmountable lead.

The Hawk Hunters also won this week. I'm playing HH next week. So if I lose (and HH wins) and 1017 loses, HH takes the division. If 1017 wins, and HH beats me, then they'll be tied, and HH also has a Points For lead over 1017, so the Hawk Hunters are also definitely in the running for division title and a trip to the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Gridiron Chefs and the Who Da Titoons both won their matches, preserving GC's one-game lead in the division. If the Titoons win in week 13 while the GC lose, that tiebreaker will probably go to the Chefs, who are sitting up 103 points before this week (so, up about 114 now). That's prooobably not a recoverable gap, so it's probably safe to give Division 1 to the Chefs.

In division 2, Finkle lost to go to 8-4, and Ash Ketchum won to go to 7-5. They're not playing one another next week, so again if Ketchum wins while FInkle loses, that tie gets broken by Points For... and Finkle has a massive lead. So, even with a tie, Finkle has secured a division win and playoff spot, barring some kind of ridiculous 350 point game for Ketchum.

Wildcard spots are too complicated for me to figure out right now. In any of the above scenarios where tiebreakers happen, some of the losers of the tiebreakers have shots. We're the sucky division, basically. If 1017 wins, he's got it; if he loses, one of us might grab the top spot, and 1017 then contests for a wildcard spot.

Don't forget: those of us who don't make the playoffs still get to compete in a consolation tournament; the winner of that tournament gets a cash payout! So it's still worth trying to win games.

Also don't forget, the three divisional winners get bye weeks in Week 14. Plan accordingly.

And here's the CHART OF INJUSTICE, in which we sort only by Points For:

Placeholder Team Name 3/9	1394.5	1588.9	1-6-0	2-3-0	3-2-0	L1
As we can see, Team McLean has somehow gone 5/7 despite leading the league in points. McLean missing the playoffs is this year's Unfair Outcome, I'd say. Finkle has a good 8/4 record but the Chefs have gone 9/3 while only being third. The Titoon's 8/4 record is obviously down to matchup luck, and if the world is just (it isn't), the Chefs hold them off and get to the playoffs over them. The rest of us are about right.

Aw. But don't worry. You've made very few lineup changes all year, you've got a ton of room in your salary cap, and you've got plenty of players who will be back next year that you can hang on to.

e. Speaking of which, here's the current caps:
pre:
Team Current total salary	Current salary cap space
First Down Syndrome $198.50 $51.50
Who Da Titoons? $215.00 $35.00
Percy Riot $155.00 $95.00
Gridiron Chefs $196.50 $53.50
Team McLean $207.00 $43.00
Former Kicker Ray Finkle	$229.00 $21.00
Mediocre Cougars $188.50 $61.50
Ash Ketchum Gotta catch em	$246.50 $3.50
Concord Concordes $211.00 $39.00
1017 BRICK SQUAD $158.00 $92.00
Placeholder Team Name $144.50 $105.50
Hawk Hunters $199.50 $50.50
And here's the FAAB money each of us have left:
pre:
TEAM POS	BUDGET
Placeholder Team Name 1	$ 79
Mediocre Cougars 2	$ 68
Concord Concordes 3	$ 22
Percy Riot 4	$ 76
Team McLean 5	$ 83
1017 BRICK SQUAD 6	$ 47
First Down Syndrome 7	$ 46
Ash Ketchum Gotta catch em 8	$ 37
Who Da Titoons? 9	$ 70
Hawk Hunters 10	$ 80
Former Kicker Ray Finkle 11	$ 0
Gridiron Chefs 12	$ 47
So Finkle has spent all his money and can't add to his team for the rest of the season. The position in this chart is the FAAB tiebreaker waiver order, taken from this page which I assume you guys all know about by now.

So far, Team McLean has spent the least money, and has the most Points For. I'd say that means he's clearly had the best draft. Finkle spent all his money, and has gone 8-4 with excellent Points For, suggesting Finkle's heavy waiver activity was well worth it for him. Interesting to see this stuff.

Thanks. Consider it a contract renegotiation for his nothing year this year. And if someone did pick him up well then hey I needed cap space going into next year either way, but much happier I got to keep him.

I now expect to see some other underperforming high-priced guys on the wire and bidding wars to commence!

Huh.

So, Chen Kenichi actually specifically asked me if it was OK to drop and then re-add a guy to get his salary lower, and I said yes. What I didn't realize is that you can drop someone on Tuesday night and they'd be available for Wednesday AM waivers. In other ESPN leagues I've been in there's always been a wait.

That's unintended, but there also isn't a rule against it. I certainly don't blame CK for taking advantage, especially since he asked me first, but unless anyone objects, I think in order to make sure everyone has a fair shot at dropped players, I should adjust the settings (if possible) to make it so that dropped players have to be on the waivers for at least 24 hours before they can be picked back up.

Discussion?

e. Also, :argh: at the Hawk Hunters for sniping Draughn at $1 more than I bid, drat! I really vacillated on how much to bid for him, too.

that sounds good to me. I'm ok with what he did for this instance. At least he didn't wait until like 10:55am today to drop Luck and then pick him back up immediately afterwards. If other people who do check daily didn't get a chance then it might be a problem, but they can speak up for themselves.

Friendly reminder: If you are currently in first place by a lot in your division it's best practice to bench your starters to rest up for playoffs.

People who should do this in no particular order: Gridiron, Finkle, Gridiron, and Gridiron.

In all honesty I thought I was dropping on Monday evening, but I had Monday off of work and so working Tuesday had me thinking it was Monday. My actual intention was to give 24+ hours, but whoops I thought wrong. That was what the whole Steve Smith stuff was - testing the drop and bid in the same period to make sure it was doable.

Is there a way to lock outright dropping a player 24h before waiver claims just to avoid controversy in the future?

Hmm. It's a thought. I want to think it through, just in case there's a potential edge case or exploit of such a rule, but I don't immediately see a big problem with it.

In any case, I've looked, and I do not have a way that I can see to lock players for some settable amount of time after they're dropped. So we can make a drop-pickup rule as a league rule - something like "you can't pick up a guy you dropped for less than the salary they had when you dropped them, until at least 24 hours (or whatever) have passed" but we'll have to enforce that rule ourselves, ESPN can't do it.

Spermy Smurf
Jul 2, 2004
The rule should be that YOU cannot pick a guy up for 24hrs that YOU dropped.

Other people can snag him though.

As long as its worded that way it will work. That way you cant drop a dude on friday afternoon and have him off limits to the entire league because only saturday waivers are left. Effectively using the waiver as an extra bench spot.

So yes, I agree with your wording Leper.
