That's just stupid. Hunger and thirst are some pretty nuanced examples of bio-feedback. Having a concise representation in the HUD is the standard in survival games for a reason. It's the best way to give you as close to as much information as your body does. Making that change while adding a numeric representation for object damage is baffling.

Just fix the hosed up trees, and spawn bugs, TFP.

Hunger and thirst bars flash at 75%, 50% then pop up a permanent warning at 25% telling you to eat in plenty of time.

Also the new video shows they already added poop as a "rare loot" in toilets as powderkeg already posted on the previous page.

I just had an odd experience with the game. I was hiding outside of a town close to where the terrain dropped off into natural generation during the first day 7 horde.

I built a safe platform surrounded by wood spikes, and waited as night fell. And waited... At about 2 a.m. there was a big lag spike and I heard a bunch of breaking noises, and pieces of terrain launched up from behind where the plateau dropped off. It was like that lovely Langoliers made for TV movie.

At daybreak I ran to check out what happened. I didn't find any sign of a horde, but the entire hillside had collapsed onto a large campsite that had been generated inside the plateau. I guess a zombie walked over it and set off a massive collapse that gave the physics engine a conniption.

I plan on picking this game back up for the next update. I may rent a server for a month or two to run a goon pvp server, would there even be any interest?

I got back together with my 7 Days group to play after leaving it for months. We ended up getting attacked by a humongous horde (like Day 14 style) on Day 5 that majorly hosed up our Wellness and ran through all our shotgun ammo.

All irritation Will still exist but they did spend 3 months developing a tree growth and a deer stand and a way to climb some trees but not all because it depends on the number of limbs and thickness of the tree.

They said perks are coming in A14. After that they still need to add the strategic resources intended as pvp goals like oil fields, NPC's, missions, bandits and Steam Workshop support as the last priority. Bunch of other stuff too like improve vehicles beyond the mediocre minibike. Then it can be out of alpha.

Anyone know a good host to go with? Also I'd imagine I should wait for patch release before paying, just in case they can't get it installed or something right?

I will say that I can very nearly host this thing on my home system, I have 32GB of RAM, the only gotcha was when multiple hordes would spawn my CPU would max out. I run a server for just me and my friend but I hesitate at the load 10 players would add.

Just wait, they'll make it an unusable grindy MMO style mess, where you need to play 150 hours before you have enough skills to assemble a SMG or sniper rifle.

Well, at least the basework will be done and we can fix it via XML modding. At least they've been courteous enough to give lots of difficulty/game options with openly changeable modding files.

Very true, I did a lot of custom random worldgen mods because it was funny having more birdsnests than grass clumps in a given area. Or diversifying the bags of trash you find all over the place.

C'mon, they're skills, not skillTREES.

Don't get me wrong, it's definitely as step in the right direction and it will allow people to specialise, but they aren't what was promised.

They are planning on expanding them with perks and all, but for all of them to turn into interesting a varied "trees", I still have my doubts.

I don't doubt that the devs will find a way to make the skill trees something incredibly stupid, but as long as they give us the tools to change that stuff, I don't really care. If I'm still interested in this game when real custom map support comes out, I'll at least try to rework like half the systems and make like a multiplayer System Shock mod with a custom underwater base map. Hopefully I'd be able to shift the focus from farmville and legsplinting to just pure horror and risk-and-reward exploration. I want to do stuff like make all normal zombies run, but also die to like 1 or 2 attacks. There's a lot of other stuff I'd like to do, but I don't want to get my already-high hopes up because I don't know how well custom maps will work in the end. I know I'd probably need like, custom player spawns, custom enemy mob spawns, a way to confine the map limits to like 1000x1000 and so on

With the new skills system we’re giving the player the ability to gain skills which reduce craft timers and loot timers. That said we removed the craft timer and loot timer menu and server options from the game

Looks like they're pretty set on preserving their ~~artistic vision~~ for the game, so much so that they are removing options.

Why is it mission critical that you always have a 10% chance to poo poo yourself? How does one avoid getting liquid shits entirely then? You just can't, need more busy-work tea to quell your colon?

You'll have to wait until you find the "Blackface" book that teaches you how to make blackface makeup with coal dust before you can really pass as a black person, though.

In all seriousness, though, TFP just seem like really out of touch teenagers that accidentally made a pretty good alpha a while back and are now just becoming a case study for regression to the mean.

It sounds like you can still mod these out. I can remember when one of the devs talked about removing the mod flags to prevent that, but I thought he was vetoed. If it's still just an ini setting that's not too bad, just annoying.

Madmole is apparently 50 years old so there's that

to be fair I think we deserve all this considering we gave our money to a dev called "The Fun Pimps"

edit: this is what he had to say about it

Madmole posted:

Sorry but timers are part of the game. You could level up to max level and cheat the game by scrapping/crafting endless things pretty much instantly. With a craft queue you can craft what is needed and go do other things. With the forge you can set up a bunch of stuff to craft as well. And there are perks which drastically reduce loot timers and craft time. So its nearly there after you work for it now, but it just didn't fit into a balanced version of the game. People can mod it out easily enough, but it's just not a viable option for the game we are making where everything is going to revolve around skills and leveling.

And this game is all about time management. No craft timers made the game way too easy.

I can see where they were coming from with this change. I guess they could have still added an arcade mode that removes timers and the RPG mechanics entirely. I suppose modders can do that easily enough though.

You're not wrong. That poo poo always made me cringe, and actually made me hold off buying the game originally. They are absolutely going to have to change their name at some point if they ever want to be taken more seriously as developers. Then again, if they keep up their design philosophy, it might not matter.
