Crosskart, Finnish I think and powered by 125/250/650cc motorcycle engines.

Its a racing series in Scandinavia. A build your own 650 knockdown kit is about 8-10 grand without an engine. There are a few used ones around for 5 -15 grand. IC-kart is a manufacturer. Might be a bit too serious if you are just looking for a toy.

I'll see if I can dig up the plans I found for one at the time, had all tube lengths and everything for building your own. They look fun as hell. Can someone explain how this has the same number of cylinders and turbos as a Bugatti Veyron, but makes ~3 times the power? Is the compromise all in driveability versus peak power?

That's the engine destined for that goofy rear end Arab vaporware hypercar, btw. So it's not being built for a drag car, but it probably is tuned for straight line speed. Also that cooling system isn't gonna handle 120F ambient but who cares he's probably raking in petrodollars so good on him. e- 7.5 liters huh, wonder how it's that little

More stuff about that engine: http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/videos/a27547/watch-a-ridiculous-123-liter-quad-turbo-v-16-dyno-at-5000-horsepower/ Looks like 12.3 liters which makes way more sense.

That's more like it, I figured he just joined two 6.0 van engines together. 2,000hp out of a twin turbo LS isn't a stretch, so 4,500 out of a billet version using two is pretty standard fare.

Smirk posted:Can someone explain how this has the same number of cylinders and turbos as a Bugatti Veyron, but makes ~3 times the power? Is the compromise all in driveability versus peak power? If you divide a Veyron SS motor by four you end up with a 2 liter turbo four putting out 300 HP. In reality things don't necessarily scale like that, but it helps put the numbers in perspective. It's basically four Golf R motors working together when you think about it that way. The Veyron is definitely set up to be reliable and driveable, probably leaving plenty of headroom on the table.

The Veyron engine makes peak HP at 6000 rpm and peak torque from 2200 to 5000rpm, while that V16 makes power between 6000 and 7000rpm (The dyno graph they show starts at 4500rpm, I wonder how poo poo it is down low). The peak numbers aren't THAT high but the curve is way different, and the Veyron has to run smoothly and reliably with radiators that will actually fit in the car. Piston engines are something around 30% thermal efficiency, that means that for every hp you make you have to dissipate 2 as heat.

With that amount of capacity, there's no chance it wont be anything other than brain frying down low - At idle it'll be doing more KW than most engines flat stick. The big difference being is that this V16 will be doing the kind of power no other motor can do then the turbos really kick in and you have twice that again. It's all a dickwave anyway, no road car will cope with that kind of power. A very cool and powerful dickwave of course.
