Essentially. Ask questions and play a lot. You really can't get good at this game as a casual player unless at some point in the past you were poopsocking an earlier cod.

I've got like 40 days played in blops and just never really got back into these games. I'm honestly happy with sitting at a .75 k/d considering I do stupid poo poo all the time.

I always ignored stock like an idiot after casually playing these games for years but man it seems like it's a really good attachment on SMGs-- it feels like you basically move at your normal walking speed with sights up and that's such a big deal going around corners. Quickdraw is obviously good too but is it considered redundant if you're using a stock? I just prestiged and don't have primary gunfighter yet and I'm torn choosing two between quickdraw/grip/stock on the Kuda

It's definitely true that the majority of players are a detriment because they aren't interested in points at all, it's definitely possible to be too much of a suicide hero. There were a couple goons like that who, in close games, would kind of brag about their death count as they rushed over and over at b with no attempt to control the map or time up with others all the while feeding the other team the uav, air strikes and choppers keeping us from controlling the map and thus b.

Yeah, that's true. If I see someone going for B on their own I will jump on too, so I guess it doesn't register to me like that. In a pubbie match two people on B is a drat godsend.

I should clarify that all my (core) dom and cod experience is pubby only bar a few weeks of AW so anything I say is that setting only. Teamwork is a mix of "right place, right time," "a deep understanding of the mentally ill" and "psychic phenomenon."

Mill Village posted:

To be fair, some of the maps in this game are set up so getting from a particular flag to another (like capping B from A in Infection), is extremely difficult. I'm convinced that if you start on A in Infection, the first thing you should do is get C because its very easy to lock down all the routes on that side. The route to get from A to B is very open and its easy to get shot. I guess I could try making a class with Smoke Grenades and see if that helps. There's also the game's wonky netcode that seems to change who it benefits at random. Sometimes you get your poo poo pushed in and there's not much you can do about it.

This seems to be less of a problem in hardcore for some reason, probably because of the lower health.

A couple of the maps are imbalanced like that. Infection is pretty brazen with it though. It's one where if I see no one even sniffing aorund B on my team I will just flank or lock down the cliff-side path from A to C, including the little doorway which leads to B. I don't blame a group of random guys thrown together not wanting to try and cap B on infection because if you're coming from A it is usually a slaughter if the other team has any competency whatsoever. (Thankfully not a guarantee.)

Stock on an SMG is great fun. Many people have the inability to shoot side to side, only up or down. Also it allows you to ADS into dangerous places at a decent speed which bamboozles random pubs/me a lot.

Quickdraw I run with stock though. My tactic is to rush a generally high traffic area, dish out massive deaths (or die) then rush the gently caress somewhere else with high traffic (or die) and then probably rush their spawn point (or die) and generally QD saves my skin on 300% of occasions because I will be running around and not using stock in the areas between killzones. I run stock/QD on the Vesper (and Kuda, see below.) And the Pharo...And VMP...And look I run it on all the SMG's.I would probably be better off with fast/extended mags instead of QD but...No, I don't want to. Any time I take off QD that's the game I start dying 50 points before my wraith because someone with a QD VMP got the draw on me. It's like clockwork.

Also last night I decided I like the Kuda. It feels way more powerful than the other SMG's but that may be because I was going from a few days of Vesper to prestiging with a fresh Kuda class.

Okay. So I guess I should ask: What the gently caress should I burn my limited unlock tokens on? By my last count, we only get 54 tokens per prestige. Also, full auto or burst fire? Run-and-gun or go slow? You know, stuff a goon would say where said goon stopped at CoD4 in terms of Multiplayer.

First time through you cannot grab everything with the unlock tokens so you'll want to find your style and use them on furthering that.

This game is fast, so as a new player the best learning point (aside from playing with people who know what they're doing) is go slow. It sounds dumb given that most players you face will be running and gunning (or being little bitches with drakons/sheiva's) but that's why going slow to begin with helps. It lets you get a feel for the game's speed and what others will be bringing. Depending on game mode, it'd be a learning point to build an AR class (Kn-44 is more than suitable) and try locking down a portion of the map. Choose an area which has limited entry points, build so that you can run and gun but with the AR it'll give you a little more stopping power so that you aren't at a constant disadvantage to vespers and VMP's. The idea is you get a feel for watching your own back, how people enter sections of each map and how to defend yourself. Don't camp though, when I mean a potion of the map I don't mean a building or corner. I mean a couple of routes you actively have to maneuver around.

If you jump straight into playing with this lot, they'll give you advice (gun skill attachment) and as they know how to play dom/will run through KC, it'll mean you won't be getting killed by VMP toting blitz rushers from behind every 5 seconds.

If you want to go it alone whilst you Get Good, building yourself up on maps over bigger and bigger distances is what worked for me. If you choose to play KC or (god forbid) TDM, lock down a certain area as I mentioned. If you choose to jump straight into dom, cap your first point you spawn at and then try defending it. Again, do not camp. It won't work and you will just find yourself dying A LOT in public dom because no one will be watching your back. Pick a couple of entry ways to the point, get a feel for which cover gives you good places to reload, heal up and travel between shooting lanes and use the KN-44 to put more powerful bullets in them before they put 15 bullets in you. When you get a bit more confident, watch where the guys from the previous matches who finished top three go straight after capping A/C. You'll notice (unless the lobby is a festering shitpit) that 2-3 will go around the edge of the map and run towards the far point rather than blitz B. This will give you a good feel for working around the map. Run behind them, watch which lanes they take and where they stop to ADS and slow down to maneuver certain corners/entry ways/buildings. These will be places you'll tend to get in firefights and it's good to know them and be ready for them.

Going from getting confident in protecting your nearest spawn point straight to "I'm going for B" is not a good idea in solo dom. You'll more than likely be the only one doing it and find yourself against 2-3 guys on the other team who know the shooting lanes and where to place that first semtex grenade when you rush to B. Leave that stuff for when you're with at least 1 other guy you know.

That's pretty much how I learned, These other nerds will have much better advice but that's my "solo dom" teaching method. If you're on PS4 I'll cruise with you for a while (when not at work), you can practice learning the ropes and I'll show you all the things not to do repeatedly whilst telling you why the gravity spikes are God's chosen specialist weapon.

I don't have a Xim4 but I can comment on the PC version (since I do have a spiffy gaming mouse). The sensitivity settings in those programs cannot override ingame settings, unfortunately. Treyarch tied mouse sensitivity to framerate for some stupid reason, and ads sensitivity is half your mouse sensitivity. Previous COD games on PC did not do this.

There isn't a feature to make "sensitivity = x when mb2 is pressed?

If ads is always half, it just seems like it should be a simple matter for a programmable mouse to dynamically double global sensitivity, based on what button you're holding, like mb2, or whatever.

For example, I have had better luck ever since someone told me to strafe left/right to aim rather than use the right stick which is jerky/imprecise and can occasionally flick up/down.

99% of my deaths are from running like an idiot to what I think are the areas of engagement and running into the middle of a death zone. Turns out not knowing the maps is bad.

But then the spawns get all hosed and I start getting killed right after I spawned. And from behind my spawn as I move towards a point. And generally all the time. I find it safer to literally move looking down the sights so I get the jump on people. Then they kill me anyways because they have better ping.
