Its the Christmas in the Park of flags. Its the Whitcoulls gift voucher of flags. Its the Star Wars Episode 1 of flags. This could go on.

Exclamation Marx posted:I had a feeling the uglier Lockwood would win even though the weetbix one was polling slightly higher; Key & Hooton & Farrar & all the other terrible right wing people favoured it. I was surprised Red Peak came second though, I heard that like a third of its first preference votes didn't rank any other flags. I'm having trouble figuring out which is the "uglier" one. Even if they weren't both equally ugly they just look the same! I can barely tell them apart and my mind still can't comprehend the fact that someone actually allowed two identical options to go into the final referendum. I'm focusing on the wrong part of this whole thing but really...

I knew the Popera thing, but not the bullshit. Hell, how the hell was she able to justify that piece of Jim-Carrey Trivia? The lack of charisma, at least, makes the prior post make sense.

Red Peak sucked, there was a bunch of other cool poo poo we could have given a wildcard to. Once again the extremely vocal demanding few get shown just how few they really are.

Whether or not anyone liked the look of red peak, it is objectively a good flag. gently caress I'd say that it's nearly a great flag. But despite being asked to vote for a flag, I bet most people instead voted for the picture they liked, the picture that told them how to feel about themselves and their place in NZ. So, we get a flag with the southern cross which says "this is comfortable and familiar since our current flag has it" and a fern because sports and other corporate logos. I didn't like the look of the black and white koru, but that's another really good flag. The interesting part is on the left protected from where flags usually fray, you could recognise it from a distance, its fairly easy to draw - even a lovely approximation would obviously be a flag, and its simple. Red peak had a lot of that but was more abstract. No doubt there could have been better options, if only flagologists were commissioned rather than getting it crowdsourced....

I don't mind changing the flag but not for that piece of poo poo.

From a very quick google maps view the middle of New Zealand seems to be about where Kikiwa is. I don't really know anything about them or the place, but I'm very interested in learning why they keep doing these horrible things to us
