Same. If I'm honest my 2015 started out great and it's only gotten better from there. I actually haven't been posting in the chat threads because I don't want to come off as a braggart or as a someone who is always spouting positive and encouraging things. I'll say that I've learned from my past that 'fake it until you make it' can work from a mindset standpoint and I really do hope that you guys going through rough patches get to a good place.

Beginning to hate computers.

My recent upgrade refused to post when memory was in any of the 'B' slots on the motherboard, but posted fine with memory in A1+A2. Got Egghead to RMA it for credit and send a replacement (I paid for the replacement so I could swap and then return) and this morning I swapped the motherboards out, which is sort of a pain. This one.. won't post with memory in the A slots, but works fine with memory in B1+B2. What the gently caress.

I think I'm just going to roll the dice and run with this one since it is otherwise working fine, and hope that it doesn't have some sort of a problem that will lead to a premature failure down the line. 16gb of RAM should be more than enough anyway, and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the new Z170 / LGA1151 doesn't really get much if any benefit from dual-channel mode anyway. Even if it does, it's so much faster than my old i5-750 that it's just silly.

Have you tried another brand of RAM?

2015 is was garbage and I can't wait for it to be done. Still stuck in the same miserable job I started the year with despite looking all year, two of my grandparents passed away, and every day feels like I'm just treading water with no power to make anything better.

On the brighter side though my couch is legitimately from the 1950s and my dog throwing up on one of the cushions made me pull the trigger on replacing the ancient :barf: foam. Ended up getting some high end poo poo called lux foam that arrived yesterday and my rear end has never been so comfortable before. This is now legitimately the best couch I've ever sat on, first thing I did after getting out of bed this morning was go and have a sit on the couch.

Bummer. Maybe a buddy has some in their machine you can borrow to test? I know the last machine I built (3 years ago) had some issues til I swapped RAM brands. Not sure why some boards just seem to arbitrarily not like certain RAM, but its happened to almost every machine I have ever built.

I've had a pretty crappy year. Lost my grandmother that I only got to meet twice because of family feud bullshit that had just finally resolved maybe six months before to cancer, had to sell my E30 having gotten to actually drive it a total of 3 miles for a total financial loss of like $1,800, ended up getting hosed out of financial aid at college because they count the class I took as a sophomore in high school and acted like a complete dumbass in because I was 16 at the time and that combined with having to drop a class because of aforementioned loss of a car and it just not being possible in a reasonable way commuting on public transport, and being super sick in general, including just finding out that I might need another stomach surgery.

Grr

In January (when I was off work after last christmas) I fitted a new security light onto the back of my house, then took up a floorboard in my bedroom and ran the wire through the wall into the floorspace.

The reel of cable then sat next to the hole in my floor and I have avoided walking on it for the last 11 months. Today I finally finished it and wired it to a fused spur about 2m away (via a relay). Now my light works. Only 11 months start to finish. Feels good.

Also, it is a 20W LED security light and it is loving awesome compared to the old one which was a 500W bulb version. I thought it would be poo poo but it gives out loads more useful light. It obviously isn't as bright but it seems to cover the whole garden with just enough useful light rather than blinding you closeup and doing bugger all further away like the old one.

Now to work out how to trigger it off the various PIR's I have in the garden.

At this point I'd RMA/swap the RAM, then CPU. You do not want to keep a system with a glitch like this, something's wrong in the hardware and if you don't fix it now it'll come back to bite you in the future (probably just after you run out of warranty...)

No idea where you read that Z170 doesn't get any benefit from dual-channel - it literally doubles the memory bandwidth you have available. It makes quite a significant difference in performance to anything that's CPU/RAM-heavy, which is everything these days... It doesn't benefit from quad-channel, though, which might be what you read?

Seriously though, don't make the mistake of saying "gently caress it, works well enough" - been there, done that, have several regrets :v:

Not sure anyone has DDR4 RAM just laying around right now, it's still a bit new for that. None of my 'nerd' friends have recently built a system, and certainly not a Skylake. I'll just wait until after the holidays, and hopefully DDR4 will drop in price and I can pick up another pair of sticks from a different manufacturer and see what happens.

Yep, I'm aware of this, and really hope it's not the CPU, but I guess that's easier to swap than the MB was, but not really looking forward to tying up $450 in that swap process, but if I have do, I guess I will.
