Good: Bad: I started dating an exponentially out-of-my-league gorgeous Latino girl who also happens to be a giant turbo nerd. It's really starting to grind my gears, I tell you. Anyways, details. I didn't get the school job. I ended up getting an IT Director position at a factory. Leading a team of 4. I start first of the year, to give me a chance to finish moving into my new place and getting divorce paperwork finalized for the final stretch, but that's as much as I really know at this point. Gonna head in next week for some orientation. It's all gonna be ok

Found a perfectly good Latitude E6410 in the electronics recycling. Not a scratch on it, looks like it's been sitting in a docking station all its life. It's not from our company, so hello free laptop I guess.

Like I knew they existed, but I never knew what horrible pieces of poo poo they were. Now when I'm at Microcenter and I see them sitting there on the shelf I start laughing. Yeah, I get a lot of funny looks, but what do they know, right?

Backstory: A set of developers use a server for a shared workspace for working with Eclipse. I've pushed and pushed and pushed against this, but whatever - you can only do so much. At least it's not a production VM. Ticket: "Folder Access" Content: " when Eclipse tries to access this folder, it displays an error message: WORKSPACE UNAVAILABLE. Workspace in use or cannot be created, choose a different one" HMMMM. I dunno champ. Maybe its "in use" by one of your buddies, sharing the same Eclipse installation, on the same server?

I swapped out a RAID controller battery in a Nexsan unit which involves swapping the volumes over to the other controller and failing the other one to pop it. Turns out this causes one of the linux boxes here to freak the gently caress out and crash. This should't have happened but I'm assuming it saw a change in the LUN mapping and promptly poo poo itself. Also the battery looks like something the bomb squad would be very interested it. I need to remember to take it out of my bag before I fly home for Christmas.

I've got a nightly script that drifts password last set times so they don't expire on our users in the middle of the day. It runs and drops logs on one of my secondary domain controllers, so I c$ share in to take a look at the logs.code:
Uhhhhhh let's try rdp code:
Well is it talking to the other domain controllers?? code:
wheeeee Turns out because it was our lone physical DC and because no one changed the label from what it used to be before it was a DC when they cleaned out the racks this morning they saw it, went "that's not in use anymore", and unracked the box. Thankfully caught it before it got wiped and tossed.
