Really wanted to hear more of the Monster Magnet guy dishing on touring with KoRn.:(

Pretty big LOL at one of the guests this week bringing up Paul F. Tompkins twice without realizing the falling out. "Have you heard Paul F. Tompkins impression of Tom Berenger lately?" "No, not LATELY."

Nellie McKay is a strange bird. Her weird, disruptive, PFT-mentioning vibe definitely made for an interesting show, though.

I love how quickly Tom namedropped Draftkings when everyone was debating whether they'd shill for an evil corporation.

I'm only halfway through but this is a nice mix of guests.

That live version of Red Rubber Ball was the second time in a week I had to cut an awesome acoustic cover out of something to put it on my iPod (after Fargo ended with a Run Through The Jungle cover last week). I'm pretty sure I had Nellie McKay confused with someone else in my mind for the last 10 years.

Also yes, she can't stop bringing up PFT.

Hayes throwing Cards Against Humanity under the bus made me laugh. Holy poo poo, 30 bucks for Hollywood Handbook ads?

If setting the Sustain Level in the ENV to around 7, you can obtain a howling sound.

I can't help but find it off-putting that Tom had on Nellie McKay, whose persona and shtick is so constructed and contrived that it makes Tom Waits look like Captain Beefheart by comparison, and then indulged it constantly. C'mon, dude, you could just eviscerate her whole "I'm Doris Day and I talk like a newsboy" thing. I also hate Hayes Davenport, who epitomizes the whole smug, privileged Harvard Comedy Guy (down to his loving NAME!) - and it's galling to hear Tom suck up to him and give him a pass on that when previously he's gone in on that whole path to comedy (Conan, National Lampoon, etc.). Really hated this lineup.

These Christmas episodes are nice but I don't think any of them will ever come close to the madness of "Tom just fell off his chair again and he's cackling wildly, I think that was too much Four Loko".

Can't wait for the future show where he breaks out his new Emergency Can though.

I listened to the original Four Loko episodes for the first time last week and holy poo poo they are everything people promised they would be. Tom's doomed arc of Four Loko consumption, Hodgman blindly steering the ship, Mike drinking in the chaos, all of it is beautiful.

Also no, Hodgman has not been on the new show. Easily the most notable absence.

i've only listened to the first one so far but it was amazing. mike coming in all buzzed wanting to talk about tiffany stalker documentaries.

i'm a pretty new fan, I only started listening in june of this year when a friend linked me to the gary the squirrel bit in one new episode where he's doing all the impressions of rambo and it killed me. So listening to these old radio-era episodes and hearing the old theme and stuff is pretty interesting. I've listened to a lot of older stuff that's been isolated into segments on youtube, but this is the first time I've heard a full old show.

here's my favourite bit from this year, tom and julie klausner on jim morrison. I laugh every time I think about it, and I think about it every time I hear anything about/by the doors.

When that weirdo with the artisinal pencil business starts talking about his horrible experience with shingles, and you can hear Nathan in the background trying so hard to suppress his laughter, it's one of the funniest things I've ever heard on the show.

These two episodes were amazing. That friggin sascrotch guy who called up and told them about breaking his musical gameboy in a four loko rage could've been a wurster call. Though it did get a little worrying when Tom got so drunk he kept falling out of his chair and Terre T had to come and look after him.

Are there any other real classic episodes I should be listening to from the WFMU era? I'm tempted to devote my remaining years to listening to all of it, but I dunno that I want to listen to anything from before we had the AP Mike we know and love.

I remember the thing that got me into the best show was a friend linking me one of the 2015 episodes, at a part where gary the squirrel is doing impressions, the monologue from rambo, ted knight from caddyshack, edith bunker, then edith bunker doing the shinebox bit from goodfellas. It cracked me up so hard I rewound and listened to the whole episode. The wurster call on that episode was great, and cause I'd never listened before I thought, for a few divine hours, that it had been a real caller, calling about how stupid his tiny hat made him look on the history channel.

ooooh archie, go home and get your shine box aaaarchie

This one has Ted Leo & The Pharmacists on standby in a studio, Tom writes song lyrics with the listeners, then at the end of the show you hear the song they recorded.
https://wfmu.org/flashplayer.php?version=2&show=27465&archive=100836

I love Petey's birthday party episodes but I don't know how if they'll come across the same if you're not familiar with him. Still though, Tom's unbridled glee when he gets to prank call WFMU DJs with a 12-year old in the studio is delightful. That second one also has the debut of Tom's band that he recruited on the show.

https://wfmu.org/flashplayer.php?version=2&show=4246&archive=100599

The first one of these is Tom celebrating his last show on WFMU because he landed himself a nice satellite radio gig. The second one is Tom crawling back after the deal falls through.
