it's a fantasy people have that despite the actual words coming out of his mouth, trump's actually a stealth liberal plant, or at worst he will be equally ruinous for all parties involved. this idea persists because he is a billionaire and thus immune to corruption, because if there's one thing rich people hate, it's more money.

i think the logic is that your average politician at the national level is an aww shucks hayseed from the sticks who was the most honest / smartest man in his county who worked hard to get elected, but oh no here comes some evil business tycoon types with sacks full of dollars and they're tempting the previously honest politician into making progressively more and more disastrous voting choices because he had no money to begin with and the allure of sacks with dollar signs crudely drawn on the side is more than one man can bear. this is couched in the idea that the US is still primarily an industrial / agrarian economy where elected officials are local heroes without any real money to their names, and goes hand-in-hand with the narrative that our golden years were some nebulous, pre/post world war 2 leave it to beaver nostalgia-gently caress where people almost always do what's right unless they're brown evil or they are tempted past their breaking point.

this completely ignores that fact that nearly all of our elected officials, starting with the founding fathers and moving forwards in time, were at least remarkably wealthy for their given era, if not outlandishly rich, and often inheritors of their wealth, as opposed to the people that actually had to work hard to build an empire. it also ignores the fact that the current state of election laws and gerrymandering make it next to impossible for some no-name schmuck to seriously compete in a political election outside of mayor of their own backyard, but nuance and subtlety are not traits that the electorate is known for possessing in spades.

When the Clintons left the white house, they stole pretty much all the furniture that wasn't nailed down. Bill and Hillary returned $114,000 of poo poo they took from the white house on the way out:

I think while Trump may love money, he would never try to steal $200,000 worth of white house poo poo on the way out of office.

Well there is a pretty stark difference between being in second place in field of 2 with ~35% support, as opposed to first place in a field of 12 with 40% support. In addition Bernie's debate performances haven't been all that impressive, so people who de facto chose Clinton don't see a compelling reason to switch.

Whereas with the GoP field before trump people were all ready to accept the "inevitable" Bush vs Clinton rematch But when your inevitable candidate is a lame-duck like Jeb, and the establishment is fractured on who to support instead someone like Trump can really shake things up. Yet despite his massive polling advantages, ground game, and financial resources it's an uphill battle with people STILL claiming Trump has no chance.

Putin would likely relate to Bernie too, except that Bernie has no foreign policy at all.

Putin wants an ally, Obama isn't it, which is why Putin had to do Syria on his own and will now control Syria. There is still chaos reigning across the Middle East, spreading into Europe. Bernie isn't going to do a thing about it and Putin probably doesn't want to clean up Northern Africa.

So I can see where the endorsement comes from. Keep in mind Trump already said he's likely to get along well with Putin, so this may have been in part a response to that.
