We still have touch screens in the modern day though and then they've decided to go back to buttons and knobs :colbert:

EDIT: I guess unless the Enterprise is based in an alternative universe where touchscreens are invented after light speed travel somehow...

Enlisted were forbidden to clean the touch screens after accidentally firing phasers on several occasions, and once nearly ejecting the warp core. Grubby touch screens became a major vector for disease. Eventually they just banned them, until Sonic Shower technology improved to the point where the screens could be cleaned without being touched.

I like Star Wars and Star Trek and I'm a huge nerd so I know this.

The scariest thing in sci fi is the Tyranids in Warhams cause they are attacking from outside the galaxy from two directions, implying that they are a multi-galaxy race. It's also hinted at them actually running from a larger predator species.

Like everything else sci fi and fantasy, Games Workshop already ruined it.

Yeah and I insisted that all doctors and councillors needed to wear those mini skirt things but that didn't happen did it?

And yes, that means male doctors and councillors too.

Speaking of ships councillors, I feel they missed a trick by not having one as the bad guy at one point. Sort of like hannibal but without the cannibal.

Some sort of evil genius who manipulates and warps the crew through extended therapy sessions.

Spock dies in it you know.

Thats why you see Uhura crying in the trailer.

They want to do a repeat of his resurrection but Jar Jar Abrams style, like he will be reborn in a loving supernova that wipes out 99.99% of the enemy fleet set to Andrew W.K's Party Hard.

lol. I couldn't put my finger on why that trailer made me feel pulled different ways. I kinda thought "oh this will be a nice twist on star trek, maybe???" then the farther I got into the trailer I got more confused and then had to wash the taste of my mouth.

Also just watched that new trailer and it looks awful. At least the other two were action movies disguised as star trek movies. This I think looks the most action and least star trek-y of them all to date.

lmao. he looks so uncomfortable and I feel bad for him. there was an interview about half a year ago where Pegg said the studio didn't let him make the script more "star trek". he went on to say something like how it's just an action movie that's superficially star trek . Imma gonna put together the evidence and expect this movie to be dead--on-arrival. :smith:

Are Trek nerds as autistic about this as Star Wars nerds?

I don't know how much of a cross over there is, but on Wookipedia they take everything said in the films literally TO A FAULT.

For example when Leia tells Moff Tarkin "I could smell your stench as soon as I arrived" the nerds took that to mean he has a disease that actually makes him stink so badly that Leia could smell him from across the planet or whatever.

Or I imagine because there's so much Star Trek compared to Wars it'd be harder to adhere to that level of lunacy.

IMO Star Wars nerds are way more autistic than Star Trek nerds. I think it's because the Star Wars EU (at least until a year ago) was all canon, so every novel/game/comic etc actually happened and it all had to tie together somehow. Trek EU has never been like that at all. Also, since Trek started out as a TV series, canon was never as important as telling stories in the first place.

BTW, lol at Wil Wheaton wearing a Spock costume to the Star Wars premiere in the latest BBT episode.

I had exactly this thought just a couple weeks ago when I was image searching for headshots to steal for a dumb unfinished Goon Project. This is a game about deception, intrigue and hidden roles, so completely unsurprisingly the characters who exceeded my expectations with the ideal expressions are Dukat, Garak, and Vreenak, and I think the latter is actually the best of the best. It's his vaguest, subtlest, Mona Lisa whisper of a suggestion of a smile. so perfect:
