LBW is the best 2D Zelda, followed by LA and then LttP.

Eh it's not really religious persecution if your entire religious code is "Hate people who are happy." The Puritans were joyless, intolerant dicks that went around England smashing organs because they hated music--music!--and in the colonies, they were all too happy edit: did I say happy? No, they were not happy. They were perfectly somber and morose and murderous when they executed Quakers and other undesirables. They were assholes who deserved to be treated as such.

That's about as accurate as saying that Syrian refugees are all Islamist terrorists. In short, the church renovations had nothing to do with "happiness." It was about ecclesial austerity (basically small church government) and idolatry. Those same renovations for example also removed railings from around the altar and pulpit so that the congregation wasn't being fenced out from the act of worship. By and large as a group they were perfectly happy to let people enjoy themselves as long as it was a) not making a church into an entertainment centre, and b) not pagan-themed.

That anti-happiness caricature originates in the fact that Charles I was a major patron of the arts, and so pretty much every stylish or artistic person in the country was indebted to him in some way.

Anyway, no derail.

The Alberta Government is extending the Health and Saftey act to include farms. Suddenly, a bunch of "Farmers" started freaking out about it saying this will ruin family farms, because kids won't be able to help out, or ride with dad in the tractor and injuries will now have to be reported and that means the Government will have to get involved and such. It was so full of people claiming that the provincal government and its socialist ways where poking its head into business it doesn't have a right to.

Some of the complainers were saying stuff like "losing a finger makes you a man" and so on. Seriously, what the gently caress is wrong with you if you think that's a positive thing? Somehow I feel like someone who says things like that also beats their children for the smallest infraction.

The reason I put "farmers" in quotes is because many of the people who were protesting the bill are not farmers in any way shape of form, but are simply owners of farms as buisnesses, and have no interaction with the crops in any way. It would be like calling a person who owns a factory an assembly line worker.

I love that we live in a world where "provide your workers and consumers with healthy and safe products/environments" and that's seen as a bad thing.

I had an argument about this with someone the other day and I came to the conclusion that the whole "mah family furms" is a total canard which distracts from the fact that 99% of people who will be protected by this legislation are adult migrants working on industrial-scale operations.

You know you're a shithead when the Wildrose party is going "Whoa guys, not too far now". Alberta has been the breading ground of Nutbars for a while, and now they've elected a NPD government after decades of corrupt and incompetent Conservative Governments, they've all gone off their nut. Some blame the people who are from out of province for the shift in government, a friend of mine from back home who's worked and lived in Calgary for over a decade knows a bunch of people who have straight up been threatened by native Albertans after the election.

Most of the people I've seen complaining are people who lived on acreages as kids, where they had like two or three horses, a few barn cats, and a large dog. Somehow this qualifies them as 'farmers'. Maybe it's because they had to mow a larger front yard than city kids as their chores.

They did ban Christmas celebrations and mass, though, during the civil war and interregnum, to the extent that they attempted to force shop owners to open on Christmas. In Canturbury, they went so far as to send armed soldiers to suppress a mob demanding a Christmas mass and the right to set up decorations.

I spent a chunk of my life in Newfoundland and moved the gently caress out of there and don't even consider myself a "Newfie". The "no pagan" thing lead them to try to cancel Christmas, both in England, and in at least one of the colonies. Theologically motivated or not, when you tell people to go back to work and stop having a good time because it might kind of be related to the good times other people had 1,000+ years ago, you're a dick.

As for making worship more accessible, they weren't the only ones moving in that direction, and the Quakers in particular did it better, by removing not only barriers to worship, but also to teaching and ministering and opening up new roles for women and all sorts of rad things. But, as mentioned, Puritans sometimes got execution-happy when Quakers were involved and were perfectly content to ban Quakerism completely from some Puritan colonies.

The Puritans more than earned that caricature, and the idea that the Puritan colonists were fleeing persecution (rather than just going to a place where they could set themselves up as the persecutors) rings really hollow.

Yea, I remember that. Also, a bunch were really smug about firing people for voting for Obama. Which is funny because will Will to Work laws or whatever they're called, people can be fired for anything, but its still illegal to fire people for things like political opinions. Saying to the employee that they were fired due to downsizing, then going online and going "hahah I fired that Libtard for voting for Obummer!", that can get you in hot water.

Prices dropped because of fracking. It flooded the market with oil, which ironically now makes fracking economically unfeasible. But even if there is less fracking going forward, the market now knows the U.S. and Canada can produce huge amounts of crude when prices rise again. This means instability in Iraq or Venezuela won't cause a shortage worldwide.

But yeah, Presidents have no control over gas prices. They don't control unemployment numbers either. They do have a little control over the housing market via whoever they nominated to be Fed Chairman.
