Psychotic Weasel posted:Why do you think everyone is sleeping alone in the middle of a double/queen size bed? Though personally I'd be more worried about sleeping in the models that have mattresses 5 feet above the floor. Roll out of bed by mistake or get up in the middle of the night to take a leak without remembering where you are - better hope you don't land on your head. I'd be more worried about breaking my neck than being buried alive. that chinese one is goofy but it has the virtue of tumbling absolutely everything on the bed safely into the middle of the vault with a mechanism that wont cause injury on its own, instead of just gambling on people sleeping dead center in bed or else they lose a limb. also it actually exists and is merely "a huge bed" instead of "a part of the dwelling's actual construction

The rack of bombs in the video is actually a pretty neat idea....if we were still carpet bombing. Like it would have been really neat in the 1960s or something. Instead, the plane would just get blown out of the sky from beyond visual range before it even got the door open.

Assuming those bombs are in the 1,000-pound class (though they look closer in size to 2,000 pounders), he's got the plane loaded up with nearly 450,000 pounds of weaponry. A C-5 Galaxy at maximum capacity can carry 270,000 pounds of payload.

Somewhere out there is a C-17 loadmaster crying after seeing that video, horrified beyond belief thinking about what those boxes with bombs and tanks would do to his center of gravity in flight.

GotLag posted:No need to wonder, this is what happens: Apparantly it was taking military cargo (I'm assuming vehicles or tanks or something) and they weren't secured properly and when it took off they all shifted to the back and absolutely hosed the hydraulics on the plane up as well as the trim, rendering it completely uncontrollable. Secure your loads!!!

Yep. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Airlines_Flight_102 quote:On 2 June 2013, investigators from the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of Afghanistan confirmed the load shift hypothesis: three armoured vehicles and two mine-sweeping vehicles, totalling 80 tons of weight, had not been properly secured. At least one armored vehicle had come loose and rolled backwards against the airplane's rear bulkhead, damaging the bulkhead. This also crippled key hydraulic systems and damaged the horizontal stabilizer components, which rendered the airplane uncontrollable. Control of the aircraft was therefore lost, with the abnormal pitch-up rotation, stall and crash to the ground ensuing.

I did the same thing when I ws a small child. I sent a letter to NASA, telling them they should be sending astonauts to the outer planets, and I included schematics for a space ship with extra oxygen because I thought the major problem with space travel was running out of air. Except I was like ten years old and so couldn't be blamed for the "oh this problem is so easy to solve, you must be stupid!" mentality. e: they were really, really cool about it by the way. They sent back a nice letter and heaps of photos and space stuff. I wish I knew where it all was

When I was a kid I drew up an aluminium recycling plant, powered by nuclear fusion. It was most efficient: the helium produced was to be captured and used to fill party balloons. Maybe with this kind of slick CG I could still sell it
