I'm pretty sure Luke does it in ROTJ, too. I'm pretty sure actually spinning around is a terrible idea in a fight because you're exposing your back to your opponent who can just cut you while you're doing it.

On the subject of fools choked the gently caress out by Vader, what is EU fate of the one guy who doesn't get choked out by him (despite the hyper drive sabotage failing at the end of ESB). I mean Julian Glover's guy had some eu stuff I figure this guy must have too. Also what's the EU explanation for Imperials having a British accent?* *which don't get me wrong is one of the things I love implemented in ESB.

Commander Comm'a Mander was from a race of people whose history valued pomp and pomposity and every single person on the world spoke the Queens English (The Queens name was Qwe-Eeen) Comm'a discovered he was force sensitive at an early age and trained in secret. During a comms meeting with the famous Sith Lord Darth Vader he subtly used the force to dissuade the Sith from choking him but knew that his secret was now out and had to flee the Empire (So he didn't blow up on the Death Star) Comm'a went on to buy a ship called the Slave 2 and became a badass bounty hunter and changed his name to Garreth Winding in the book "After The Empire" by Gareth Winding.

Ciena, the Imperial main character, was involved in that sabotage mission (not as a saboteur but like one of the junior officers involved in planning the sabotage or something like that) and she was all terrified that Vader was going to kill them all but he just stood there angrily for a bit and silently stormed off to come up with a new plan.

It was pretty funny and had a lot of heart. I was smiling from ear to ear throughout most of it. Definitely the best Star Wars since '83, even though that isn't saying all that much. The new cast is good and Harrison Ford does a great job still. It isn't perfect though as it doesn't have a lot of originality (at all) and leaves a lot of questions totally unanswered and saved for the sequel. That said, it's fun and you'll enjoy it. Right now though I just want to know what the hell happened between 6 and 7 and what's the deal with a couple characters. Who the gently caress is Snoke really? Where did he come from? Is he human? Does he have anything to do with the Sith? Who are the Knights of Ren? What's their deal? It's heavily implied they Rey is Luke's daughter but not stated outright. Wouldn't people recognize her? Shouldn't she know who her dad is? How are they gonna break the news in Episode VIII if Luke doesn't say anything at the end? In the opening crawl? Offscreen? That's awkward. Is the New Republic still around? They blew up like 5 of their planets and I'm guessing one was their capital. Did the First Order really topple their government in a single blow? Also they sure dug a really big hole in that planet to build the Starkiller weapon. Kylo Ren is also a LOT like Anakin... in the prequels. Even though he's a real patricidal son of a bitch, he comes off as way less threatening than Vader and Rey whoops his rear end even without any proper training. If there's someone we gotta be worrying about, it's Rey, because she's a hell of a lot more powerful. Kylo Ren is an inferior Darth Vader wannabe and I'm pretty sure that's 100% intentional.

No clue about Snoke, but I'm guessing/hoping he's a new character and not like "oh Sheev survived lol" or something. He's something something dark side but also told Ren to stfu and let Hux use Starkiller, so who knows. I liked how his hologram was giant, but he really reminded me too much of Gollum. My guess is the Knights of Ren were the original batch of Jedi trainees and Kylo turned them all bad. My comedy batshit-crazy guess for posterity is: Snoke is Revan from KOTOR. Orchestrated everything from the prequels onward. Waited for Luke to round up his group of the last remaining force-sensitives in the galaxy, then turned Kylo to the dark side, who then turned the rest of the students in turn. Knights of Ren = Knights of Revan. The "final part of his training" or whatever that Snoke mentions at the end will be Kylo vs the rest of the Knights. If Kylo wins, he's not only killed the rest of the force-sensitives left, but has also cemented his position as ultimate-distillation-of-Sith-philosophy apprentice to Snoke: killed a bunch of Jedi/his fellow Sith to fulfill the Rule of Two, descended from basically the greatest Sith Lord ever in new canon history, etc. The biggest flaw I see there is that Kylo got his rear end whooped like a little bitch a bunch of times (getting shot, barely beating Finn and then losing to Rey in spectacular fashion) so I dunno how he's gonna beat a bunch of his fellow ex-Jedi students. And the more I think about it the more I feel like it raises a major question: how big of a badass can Snoke really be if he bets so much on yet another superweapon-with-a-weak-point on one hand, and what is clearly an unstable mess of a wannabe-Sith on the other? We all know the whole trilogy is planned out and everything is deliberate, so I feel like if Kylo suddenly becomes a super-badass Sith lord it'll really go against some serious character development they built up for him.

This was a great movie before Harrison Ford showed up, at which point it was demoted to pretty good. It was probably at its worst in any scene he had with Carrie Fisher. They just weren't believable. Also, the entire script was "Episode IV but slightly out of order and with slight plot twists." As someone said, it's a little too faithful. Show me something new. Several of the spoilers I've accidentally read turned out to be completely wrong, by the way.

Harrison Ford's trademark Han Solo acting style works great when he's a smuggler for hire but not when he's supposed to be -blah blah spoiler- and his scenes with Fisher reflect that. Add that to a scene that's on par with the Anakin murders sand people rant and it just doesn't work.

Movie was entertaining but not memorable. It was fun to watch but didn't really do anything to get me excited for more Star Wars stuff. Also it was obvious that the entire production didn't have the courage to be it's own movie, it felt the need to crib on the OT every 5 minutes max.

I think they did some really cool visual stuff with Jakku but I am ready for Star Wars to never visit a desert planet ever again. I realize that a lot of the series' soul is locked up in wind-scoured wastes full of brigands, con-men, and various goblins, but enough is enough. At times it was all familiar to the point of absurdity. Death Stars have now become routine. I expect they are setting up for a less familiar second and third act, though. Thinking back on it I am very pleased we didn't get any obligatory force lightning.
