Alright, let's rush through the rooms we haven't seen yet! (To expedite the LP we'll save Section 80 for last, for reasons that will become obvious when I post the section.)Section 89 posted:What a pleasant room - a private temple of some sort to judge by its appearance. The walls are painted light blue, as is the ceiling; and there is a blue carpet on the floor. To drink or not to drink, that is the question. Decide upon this, and tell me the course of action that we should take. Meanwhile, let's take a look in the other rooms. Section 106 posted:'Are they back yet?' I'm not usually one to gamble, but if you so choose we can risk a game of chance or two. Section 136 posted:This is someone's study. The shelves around the walls are full of parchment scrolls, quite possibly containing the most powerful and useful spells in the known universe. Interesting, this is the first time the book gives us a different section for a successful Friendly Reaction. I wonder what that could mean. So, three questions: Do we drink from the chalice? If so, which way do we approach it from? Do we gamble? Do we try and make friends with the scholar, straight-up murder him, or leave him alone? After that, we'll move on to Section 80. Let's do the following: Stand in the light and drink from the chalice. We're not sneak-thieves (present evidence nonwithstanding)! Gamble with the cook exactly one time. The game is rigged against us (ties go to him), but we have enough money to risk 11 gold on the off chance that there's a "if you gambled with the cook" sort of check later and also just to be a good sport in general. Try to make friends with the scholar. If that fails, do not murder the scholar. Not only does killing a harmless old man not seem particularly knightly, there is absolutely no way the book is not about to royally screw us on that fight. Edit: Can we retry for friendly reactions after dying? If so, come back here and try for another friendly reaction next time we die, if we fail. idonotlikepeas fucked around with this message at 18:55 on Dec 6, 2015 |

Okay, Pip, step into the light...Section 176 posted:Tastes rather pleasant and has given you a very tingling all up and down your spine. Although this does not affect your LIFE POINTS, you will find that next time you fight, your opponent will only be able to score half the damage shown on the dice. Unfortunately the effect wears off after one combat. This was a good decision. And apparently, it's the light that does the trick, since if we'd snuck off to the side the potion would have had the opposite effect (i.e.: it would have been us who would have done half-damage during the next fight, but on the plus side we would have been able to carry the rest of the potion with us to use on a monster of our choosing). And now, let's bet 11 gold with the cook! Cook's roll: 2 Pip's roll :1 We're down eleven gold pieces, but at least we've had some fun. Now, is the old man friendly? Pip's rolls: 6 + 4 + 5 = 15 Old man's rolls: 2 Nope! So let's leave this poor sod alone, and go to the final room at 80. Section 80 ***B (Each) posted:This door opens into another hallway. There is a door to the north to 110, a door to the west to 136, a door to the south to 160 and (heh, heh) a broad flight of marble stairs leading upwards. And this is the reason why I didn't go immediately to this section, since it forces a fight which we'd have to repeat if we wanted to keep exploring the ground floor. Am I not nice? Let's roll for battle with these dames. Pip's initiative roll: 5 + 6 = 11 Jason's initiative roll: 6 + 1 = 7 Amazon 1's initiative roll: 5 + 1 = 6 Amazon 2's initiative roll: 4 + 5 = 9 Pip attacks! 5 + 6 = 11, Amazon 1 is hit for 5 + 3 = 8 LIFE POINTS and is down to 17. Amazon 2 attacks! 3 + 5 - 1 = 7, Pip is hit for 1 + 4 - 3 = 1 LIFE POINT and is down to 32. Jason attacks! 6 + 2 = 8, Amazon 1 is hit for 3 + 3 = 6 LIFE POINTS and is down to 11. Amazon 1 attacks! 5 + 5 - 1 = 9, Pip is hit for 2 + 4 - 3 = 3 LIFE POINTS and is down to 29. Pip attacks! 5 + 4 = 9, Amazon 1 is hit for 3 + 3 = 6 LIFE POINTS and is down to 5. Amazon 2 attacks! 4 + 4 = 8, Pip is hit for 1 + 4 - 3 = 1 LIFE POINT and is down to 28. Jason attacks! 3 + 1 = 4, missed. Amazon 1 attacks! 1 + 2 = 3, also missed. Pip attacks! 6 + 2 = 8, Amazon 1 is hit for 2 + 3 = 5 LIFE POINTS and is killed. Amazon 2 attacks! 1 + 3 = 4, a miss. Jason attacks! 6 + 2 = 8, Amazon 2 is hit for 3 + 3 = 6 LIFE POINTS and is down to 19. Pip attacks! 5 + 3 = 8, Amazon 2 is hit for 2 + 3 = 5 LIFE POINTS and is down to 14. Amazon 2 attacks! 4 + 6 = 10, Pip is hit for 2 + 4 - 3 = 3 LIFE POINTS and is down to 25. Jason attacks! 6 + 2 = 8, Amazon 2 is hit for 3 + 3 = 6 LIFE POINTS and is down to 8. Pip attacks! 4 + 2 = 6, Amazon 2 is hit for 0 + 3 = 3 LIFE POINTS and is down to 5. Amazon 2 attacks! 3 + 2 = 5, Pip is hit for 0 + 4 - 3 = 1 LIFE POINT and is down to 24. Jason attacks! 3 + 4 = 7, Amazon 2 is hit for 2 + 3 = 5 LIFE POINTS and is down to precisely 0. And is dead. Onwards, up the stairs! Section 98 posted:You climb the stairs, weapon at the ready, taking no chances now after your fight with the Amazons, but the upper floor, when you reach it, seems to be unguarded. A carpeted corridor has several doors leading cff it, but when you explore, these turn out to be no more than empty bedrooms. A door at the end looks more interesting, however, since it is prominently labelled 'King's Bedchamber'. There are guard posts at either side of it, but these are presently deserted. Cautiously you try the door itself: it is locked. Roll: 5, juuuuust barely but it's enough! Section 197 posted:The door swings open into an opulent chamber, empty like the rest (which probably explains why it was left unguarded). A curious tapestry hangs above the heap of silken cushions which presumably serve Colchis as a bed. The tapestry shows a large skull with a single eye socket set centrally in place of the usual two, while underneath has been ornately embroidered the single word 'BEWARE'. That's a nice find! I'm sure it'll turn out to be useful. Section 197 posted:Keep the scroll carefully and return to 80 where you may like to try it out against the Amazon Guards who will have been replaced at the foot of the stairs. ...Well, screw YOU too, book! You know the drill, let's roll! Pip's initiative roll: 2 + 3 = 5 Jason's initiative roll: 3 + 6 = 9 Amazon 1's initiative roll: 4 + 5 = 9 Amazon 2's initiative roll: 5 + 5 = 10 Jason's initiative re-roll: 5 + 2 = 7 Amazon 1's initiative re-roll: 4 + 6 = 10 Amazon 2 attacks! 3 + 2 - 1 = 4, missed. Amazon 1 attacks! 1 + 6 - 1 = 6, Pip is hit for 1 + 4 - 3 = 2 LIFE POINTS and is down to 23. Jason attacks! 6 + 6 = 12, booyah, Amazon 1 is hit for 7 + 3 = 10 LIFE POINTS and is down to 15. Pip casts ILLUSION SPELL! 5 + 6 = 11, it worked! Amazon 1 rolls 2, and saves. Amazon 2 rolls 4, and doesn't, and is reduced to ash. Amazon 1 attacks! 5 + 3 = 8, Pip is hit for 3 + 4 - 3 = 4 LIFE POINTS and is down to 19. Jason attacks! 1 + 6 = 7, Amazon 1 is hit for 2 + 3 = 5 LIFE POINTS and is down to 10. Pip attacks! 5 + 6 = 11, Amazon 1 is hit for 5 + 3 = 8 LIFE POINTS, is down to 2 and is knocked out. Let's skedaddle before anybody comes to replace these two ladies. Now we're officially done with the palace, so we can go back out to where we started exploring this island and check out someplace else! As a reminder: Section 39 posted:You climb with Jason on to the rocks and, with the advantage of height, you can now see a number of well-made roads within quite easy reach. One wends its way to an imposing mansion set almost on the shore a little further down. Another leads to a grimly imposing castle set atop one of the hills. Another passes close by a small farm. Another leads directly into a village where, so far as you can tell from this distance, some sort of activity is going on. Section 41 posted:You stare down the narrow shaft beneath its rotted canopy of thatch and note that while the water level is high, the water itself is scunmiy, oozing slow bubbles from somewhere deep beneath the surface. Well that's good! Since we're here, we might as well heal to full, which takes... three drinks. Now let's go to the mansion! It's located in Section 51. Section 51 posted:What an imposing edifice. Corinthian pillars, flying buttresses, Grecian arches, bas reliefs, tiled mosaics, fluted columns and baroque murals are all featured in the structure, certain indication that the architect was drunk.
