![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It had seemed much longer. Maybe because I hadn’t been able to see the sun? ![]() Then, almost as if he’d heard me, Meoshi suddenly sat down on the stairs. He was looking really bad, as if he could pass out at any moment. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mitarashi stopped and came back down the stairs toward us. He frowned, and took a hold of Meoshi. ![]() ![]() ![]() With a grunt, Mitarashi hauled Meoshi to his feet and propped him up on his shoulder. ![]() ![]() I watched them head off up the stairs. ![]() I’d been so busy thinking, I’d fallen to the back of the line. ![]() Still, they were a pretty rough climb. When we started I’d been hopping up them at a good clip, but now it seemed like they went on forever… I could feel my pace slowing, and I stopped for a moment to catch my breath. When I looked back up… ![]() Urabe had stopped in front of me and extended a hand. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After a moment or two of thought, I took Urabe’s hand. I was tired, and I didn’t want to get in anyone’s way. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Urabe smiled again, and gave me a conspiratorial wink. ![]() At long last we reached the top of the stairs. In front of us stood a set of double doors. Everyone else was already there, taking a moment to catch their breath. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Everyone else was panting and tired, but Mitarashi seemed as energized and relaxed as he had an hour ago. Shidou looked like he was about to say something, but before he could- ![]() ![]() A less-than-friendly voice boomed over the speakers. ![]() We weren’t likely to forget that voice anytime soon. ![]() ![]() ![]() His attempt at manipulation was clear… To everyone except Mitarashi, apparently. ![]() ![]() He shook Shidou off and spat angrily. ![]() Shirabe appeared to be thinking the same thing I was. ![]() ![]() He shoved another snack into his mouth and started scratching his beard. ![]() ![]() And with that, he was gone. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We agreed to rest a little longer before heading to the last puzzle. After everyone had gone silent, I started thinking about Hogstein. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mitarashi grabbed the doorknob and looked back at the rest of us. We all nodded back. Our short rest seemed to have restored some sort of calm. Even Wakasa looked determined. ![]()

![]() ![]() Beyond the door was a glamorous Japanese-style room covered in Western ornamentation. The walls were all sliding doors, but a massive chandelier hung from the ceiling. It looked like a house built during the late 1800s or early 1900s. In the center of the room was another strange statue. And just like before, next to it was a device with seven panels. ![]() Shirabe tapped his forehead and nodded. ![]() I had to resist the urge to respond with “gesundheit”. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Moving carefully and checking everywhere for hidden traps, we slowly approached the statue. ![]() ![]() ![]() He didn’t go so far as to touch it, but I got the impression that if he thought it was safe, he would have. ![]() I was watching him gaze appreciatively at the statue when I heard a familiar voice. The speakers crackled to life as the announcer started to speak. ![]() It was… confusing. ![]() The lit panel was a picture of a woman… ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I thought about it for a while, and thought it’d be more interesting to examine the centerpiece of the room. I decided to investigate the statue with Shidou and Urabe. We made our way towards the statue and began circling it, looking for clues. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We spent a lot of time going over the statue, but made sure not to actually touch it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I guess since knights and police are both supposed to fight for justice, he might see knights as kindred spirits, but still… I was still thinking about what Shidou had said when I noticed something strange on the statue’s stomach. ![]() ![]() ![]() It was diamond-shaped, and almost hidden by the belt. ![]() ![]() ![]() I wasn’t sure what the hole was supposed to be, but it seemed like a thin enough object could probably be inserted into it. While I was still looking into the hole, Shidou looked down and made another observation. ![]() ![]() ![]() We decided that was enough investigating, and called the others over. ![]() Shirabe had found a mark on the floor that looked like three leaves of wild ginger. He suspected this was the “holy seal”. On top of that, the ginger crest appeared to be some sort of button, although they hadn’t tried to press it. Mitarashi reported that they’d discovered the sliding doors were mostly just painted on, although there were a few real ones. Each wall had one real door, so if we didn’t count the entrance that left three possible exits. ![]() ![]() ![]() Shidou reached over and put his hand on my arm. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I took a deep breath and pushed the button. Everyone swallowed… ![]() I’d been expecting… well, something. This was odd. ![]() ![]() I pushed again, as hard as I could. ![]() I started rapidly pressing down on the button in the hopes that something would happen. ![]() He gestured for me to move aside, and pressed down on the seal with his foot. ![]() A pleasant chime sounded, and the priestess panel disappeared to be replaced by the warrior. ![]() ![]() ![]() He looked hurt and a little flustered, but… ![]() ![]() ![]() It seemed like everyone was ganging up on Shirabe now. That’s a little rude…! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shidou had remained silent until now, but he suddenly spoke up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The humor of the situation was beginning to ebb. ![]() ![]() ![]() We all ran over to see what Wakasa was talking about. Sure enough, there was now a large hole in the floor. ![]() ![]() Mitarashi, either unafraid or unaware of the possible danger, stuck his hand into the hole and pulled out… ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mitarashi drew the sword from its scabbard with a flourish, and swung it around a few times, grinning and posing. After his little display, a short fanfare played over the speakers. ![]() The voice echoed across the room. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mitarashi swaggered over to the statue and, with one dramatic motion, shoved the sword through it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mitarashi gave the sword a final shove, and the statue made a small “click”, followed by an electronic whirring noise. ![]() ![]() While searching for the source of the noise, Urabe turned and pointed toward something on the ceiling. ![]() ![]() We watched as it slowly turned to point at the top of the sword. ![]() ![]() ![]() I gave him a vigorous nod. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now that the puzzle was solved, all I had to do was open the door and we would be finished with the attraction! I could feel everyone’s eyes on me… I grabbed hold of the door and threw it open. ![]() On the other side was a wall with the head of a demon mounted on it. ![]() [The music stops.] I stepped forward to get a closer look— A harsh buzzer sounded. I could hear frantic voices behind me. ![]() ![]() ![]() As he shouted, I heard an arrow fire from the demon. ![]() Suddenly I was frozen in place by surprise and terror. I squeezed my eyes shut— ![]() I heard the arrow shoot through the air. I heard quick footsteps. I heard- ![]() ![]() Something slammed into my body-“The arrow!” I thought… ![]() I opened my eyes and looked up. ![]() There was Mitarashi, cradling me loosely in his arms. ![]() ![]() His face was twisted in pain, and it took only a moment to see why: The bolt that had been meant for me was buried in his shoulder. ![]() ![]() ![]() I realized my mouth was hanging open and quickly shut it, but I felt awful… ![]() ![]() ![]() I didn’t know what to say about all this. I panicked. Mitarashi saved me. Wait, he jumped in front an arrow…! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He grinned. He slowly let go of me, and then fell to his knees. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We watched for a few tense minutes while Shirabe applied some rudimentary first aid. I wanted to do something, but I don’t know much about first aid and I didn’t want to disturb Shirabe. ![]() ![]() I handed him my handkerchief, which he skillfully tied around Mitarashi’s arm. ![]() Shidou grimaced and slammed his fist into a nearby wall. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mitarashi nodded in thanks. ![]() ![]() ![]() I tried to fight down the growing feeling of panic and go over what we knew, but I couldn’t hold my thoughts together. ![]() ![]() ![]() Shirabe continued to mumble to himself and scratch his beard as the rest of us thought. ![]() I could tell he was trying to lighten the mood, but his words had the opposite effect. The minutes ticked by. Every so often I could see Mitarashi grimace in pain and shift uncomfortably. ![]() ![]() I nodded, and started running over what we knew in my head. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shirabe seemed to have reached the same conclusion as I had, and he punched the wall again in frustration. ![]() ![]() I wracked my brain for what that might be. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I looked up to see six stunned faces staring at me. ![]() ![]() ![]() We huddled around the statue and began to study it with renewed interest. ![]() ![]() Out of the corner of my eye I could see Mitarashi, still trying and failing to hide how much his wound hurt. I began to circle around the statue. ![]() Without really thinking, I reached out to touch it— Only to have my arm suddenly grabbed and pulled away. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He’d grabbed me, and now I was getting yelled at? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [And now we reach the first in a series of specific decision points. Every so often characters will act out negatively, and occasionally it’s just too much for Saki to deal with at the time. At times like these, she starts to get angry, and it’s up to you to decide if she’ll speak out about it, or let it slide. But since this is the first time we’ve seen this pop up, I think it’s time to GET MAD!!!] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [The music stops.] I should have been more careful, but if I hadn’t called Shidou out on his malarkey I would have felt pretty steamed. Shidou hung his head and rubbed a hand over his eyes. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He bowed his head. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shidou pursed his lips. ![]() ![]() ![]() Shidou sighed, and gave us a small smile. ![]() ![]() We nodded, and turned back to puzzling over the statue again. ![]() He pointed down toward where the statue met the base. ![]() Carefully, Shidou stepped forward and put his hand on the statue. When nothing happened, he slowly started to push… ![]() Not very far, but it had moved. It appeared that the katana could be used as a sort of handle to rotate the statue. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I moved the statue slowly, bit by bit, and before long… [pop] ![]() ![]() The chime announcing the completion of a puzzle played over the speakers. ![]() His eyes were so wide I could see the whites, and his breathing was fast and shallow. ![]() ![]() ![]() Shirabe groaned and shook his head. ![]() ![]() He strode off toward the door and, once he’d made sure we were out of the way, pulled it open. I peeked over his shoulder and saw a long hallway with no demon heads inside. ![]() ![]() He let out a sigh of relief, and I followed suit. A quick fanfare played throughout the room, and the announcer returned with a joyful message. ![]() I’d never thought I’d be happy to hear that voice, but for once I was. ![]() ![]() We began to cheer. At last, we’d finally finished the first day’s game. Our faces were drawn and tired, but every one of them was split with a relieved grin. ![]() One of the floorboard in the passageway popped open. Inside was a treasure chest like the one we’d found in the first room. ![]() ![]() He pulled it out and frowned at it. ![]() ![]() ![]() I broke into a run, and I heard everyone else doing the same behind me. ![]()

berryjon posted:I really hope that I hope this update was everything you wanted out of this scenario. Anyways, it's... ![]() ![]() So the first attraction has come to close, and now it’s time for Saki’s attraction to play a more active role in the game! We’ve got some free time events coming up, and Saki just can’t decide who she wants to spend them with, so it’s time for the first thread vote for our first playthrough! Who will Saki be pursuing while trying to survive Count Hogstein’s deadly traps? ![]() Meoshi, the hardcore gamer and total shut-in? ![]() Mitarashi, the reactionary rough-and-tumble escort? ![]() Shidou, the no-nonsense cop? ![]() Shirabe, the older and highly knowledgeable reporter? ![]() Urabe, the kind and gentle fortune teller? ![]() Wakasa, the scared and awkward boy idol? Put your vote in bold so I can more easily keep track of who everyone wants to date, and give me a reason why you’re voting for them! I’d like to know what people think of characters right now, given that we haven’t had a lot of time to spend with them yet and there’s plenty of room for them to develop. Also, if you’re so inclined, I’d like to know who your least favorite is and why! This won’t act as a negative vote for them or anything, I’m just curious. For those that have played the game before, feel free to give your thoughts as well, but please avoid spoilers or “wait ‘til you see what happens with THIS character” style comments. Just base it off of the stuff we’ve seen so far if you can, please! Vote will be open for probably a week or so, to make sure everyone who wants to has a chance to put their two cents in, after which I’ll start recording and getting new updates ready for you!

Let's be real here, Meoshi and Mitarashi are the only PROPER choices and Meoshi is clearly the most correct.

Shidou - Sexist Shirabe - Twice our age Urabe - Boring Wakasa - Dating an idol is a bad idea for the both of us

I was really on board for Shidou until this update, but I'm still willing to give him a shot. Shidou, even if he is a bit too high-minded, I still like him. He at least shows some respect for Saki and admits his sexism is wrong, which is more than I can say for Shirabe. Although I kind of want to see the comedy-option Wakasa route just because he's so useless.

Meoshi is definitely my vote, because voting for a goddamn modern ninja can only go well. Let's get him out of his shell too, while we're at it. Mitarashi is also a giant badass but I can only vote one. And if we're going for least liked, Urabe's taking that spot for me. He's just been a non-entity so far, but I'm sure he'll get more spotlight later.

I'd say Harem Ending but those aren't really a thing in Otome games AFAIK.

Meoshi. Mitarashi is pretty great but he's also way older than our protagonist.
|

My vote is for Mitarashi, you gotta love a guy who will take an arrow for you Least liked is Urabe, he just looks incredibly suspicious & it's more suspicious when Saki keeps saying how nice he is
|
![]() |
|
Meoshi because ninja. Come on, how could you not? My least favorite is Wakasa. I don't know, I guess I just don't like that he's the only person who's completely losing it and not staying as together as the rest of the group.

Mitarashi because he reminds me of Kanji and Iksander from Fate Zero, and that is the best. Also we finally got to the best part of the game: EXPLOSIVE RAGE!!!!

I like that telling people off for being assholes is a mechanic in this game, and at least from the one situation its been used so far it seems like it'll actually make those characters like you more and try to stop being jerks as well. It's neat. And for who we should date, Meoshi and Mitarashi were really the two he came off the best in the first attraction and of the two a coin flip told me to pick Meoshi so that's my vote.
|
![]() |
|
Mitarashi because he has crazy hair and he took a loving arrow for Saki.
|

Mitarashi because he's the coolest and hunkiest. And also the bravest what with the instantly diving in front of a potentially lethal trap and all.Oblivion4568238 posted:My least favorite is Wakasa. Irabe is my choice... Mostly because he's the type of person I myself like.

Mitarashi, he is the best looking and he took a goddamn arrow for us. My least favourite is Urabe because he seems like a total non entity so far.

Shidou because he actually apologized and reacted positively to Saki blowing up at him for being sexist! Which is pretty much as rare as a unicorn ![]() He also reminds me of Katsuya Suou from Persona 2, who was pretty great ![]() Are pink sunglasses a cop thing?

It's gotta be Mitarashi, he is the hunkiest of all ![]()

Mitarashi, because hunk. I think it's unfair to dislike Urabe just because he's still a non-entity. There's probably enough time in the game for everyone to get developed. That said, for the least favorite, I'll go with Wakasa. Dragonatrix posted:To be fair there, he is like 15 years old and also a sheltered pop idol.
