He never wanted to be president or win the primary. He wanted to get his name out for speaking engagements and books. The only time he appeared to have any passion on the campaign trail was when reporters started picking apart his book and life story, which are his bread and butter and might have hosed up the speeches and books. He's probably very very happy to not be dealing with the bump spotlight anymore.
