I got into amazing shape running a bunch of trails in Vail over the summer. They're basically all gorgeous.

I live in downtown Philly so trails are pretty sparse, but I'm running the Wissahickon trails tomorrow morning with a buddy, it's a pretty well-regarded network outside of the city. Gonna be a chilly morning in the woods but it should be rad.

Trail running is to tumbling down a hillside as martial arts is to bar fighting, and that is awesome. I don't get how people can enjoy running unless they're doing it while struggling to keep their legs under them as their scarcely controlled momentum sends them barrelling over uneven rocky terrain.

I ran a race on some trails yesterday. I didn't win, but it was great anyway. The aid stations had soup and coffee to help us stay warm, which was very considerate of them because it was 21 degrees F and windy. Also I've signed up for a January night half marathon on some trails. That will be fun too unless I break an ankle. If I do it will be less fun, but at least I will have a story!

Pushed to the edge, lost it, ate poo poo, no regrets would do again, trail running owns.

Arkansas has a surprisingly large amount of really good trail running spots, and we also have a lot of ultramarathon types. I go short distances fast but I should really work on my endurance, 5 miles is barely anything if you really want to see the back halves of some of these trails. I worked an aid station at the Arkansas Traveler 100-miler and the people that run that are real crazy.

Since you all SUCK DICKS I went and found a few trails on my OWN. JERKS!! Harold Parker State Forest – Hilly & rocky/rooty in most places, but relatively secluded and quiet. Buggy. Middlesex Fells – close to the city so there's more people, but mostly flat, well maintained trails and little road noise, and the best view of Boston I've found. Danvers Rail Trail – nice for the first couple miles but quickly turns into gross suburban sprawl, quite flat the whole way tho if that's your thing.
