How do you deal with Rebel stress builds as empire?

Tactician K-Wings or R3-A2 Y-Wings just eat Soontir, Vader, and most of the other action-dependent Imperial aces for lunch.

Stress builds have hit my local meta like a ton of bricks. I'm half-tempted to go back to TIE swarms. Which is sad, because I feel like I just grew out of them.

Use your action dependent Imperial aces as bait, and don't actually commit to the fight until the stressing unit is dead. I give you 5:1 odds that if you tease them with Soontir but never actually bring Soontir to the fight (or bring him in range, and then speed the gently caress away out of range the next turn) they'll waste time chasing him and let you set up good shots with your other ships.

Imperial players rely too much on high-PS action-dependent ships, when really the Empire's toolbox is far more versatile than Soontir and Vader.

You'll grow out of TIEs only to grow straight back into them in my experience.

If the Y is running btl just arc dodge it. The K wings you should be able to either keep range 3 or boost into r1 and after that blow past them and with their dial they wont have another opportunity to trigger tactician.

Babby's second attempt at a list, that I mostly have the stuff for save having to proxy the hull upgrades. I think everything actually works like I want it to in this one, so I'll give it a try after the FLGs resumes Flightpath Fridays after the New Year.

"Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)
Hull Upgrade (3)

"Omega Ace" (20)

Hull Upgrade (3)

Omega Squadron Pilot (17)
Wingman (2)
Hull Upgrade (3)

Omega Squadron Pilot (17)
Cool Hand (1)

Hull Upgrades are generally bad. I'd drop them all in order to bring in the TIE/FO pilot that is basically Wingman but a million times better , drop the Omega pilots to Zetas, and you can fit a second one with the points you're not spending on Weapons Guidance and Cool Hand.

Oh, poo poo how did I miss Epsilon Leader? Yeah I liked the idea of having someone cool off Omega Ace with Wingman so he can potentially gimmick every turn without having to be predictable on his dial, but that dude has Super Wingman built in and might we worth breaking the dumb "Omega" theme for. Guess I'm buying at least one more TIE/fo expansion.

You could always switch him with a black squad or academy or whatever.

Honestly I've found that a single Black Squadron with Draw Their Fire is worth its weight in gold for taking big hits off high-priority targets in the swarm, like Howl.

Unless I have some kind of "I hate interceptors" episode, this is likely what I'll be flying against you with.

code:
TIE Interceptor: · Soontir Fel (27)
	 Push The Limit (3)

TIE Interceptor: · Turr Phennir (25)

TIE Interceptor: · Tetran Cowall (24)
	 Push The Limit (3)
	 Autothrusters (2)
	 Royal Guard TIE (0)

Its not super good, but I loving love interceptors.

T-70 X-Wing: · Poe Dameron (31)
Push The Limit (3)
· BB-8 (2)
Autothrusters (2)

X-Wing: · Wedge Antilles (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R2 Astromech (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)

K-Wing: · Esege Tuketu (28)
Recon Specialist (3)

This feels like a waste of a K-wing but Esege can feed his focus tokens to Wedge and Poe plus its more hull to chew through and a 360 primary. Someone above mentioned that Poe build; BB-8 gives him a free barrel action that he can PTL off of, reveal a green maneuver and take a regular action afterward. Does that work out?

Tactician K wings are easy, you go after they do and have boost/barrel roll, staying out of Tactician range should be easy enough, though more difficult if they're flown well enough to spread out their ranges effectively.

R3A2 is harder, but you should be able to focus it down before it does much, and it's easy to arcdodge if it's using the title or arcdodge/donut hole if it's not.

Or you counter with imperial stress builds yourself. Mara Jade, Rebel Captive and Tactician in the same build is going to be a PITA.

Tactician works only in the firing arc, so you just have to tease out the kwings and make sure you don't joust in the initial exchange. If they use TLTs they'll mostly want to orbit, so that means the tactician doesn't see a lot of use.

Rebel stress builds tend to do better imo against action economy lists such as super-tank chewie etc. Imperial high PS lists tend to hate imperial stress lists more, since there is no way to avoid getting stress from Rebel Captive.

The triple tactician K-wing build actually slow-rolls to keep a nice big range 2 zone for the tacticians, but I wouldn't call it a mainstream build. More likely, you'll see a stressbot Y-wing supporting someone else, like Poe Dameron or another rebel ace, where the stressbot takes away a bunch of board and your ace finishes the job.

The imperial stress builds are not nearly as dangerous because they don't double-dip.

RAC with rebel captive and VI wrecked me when I was flying a shuttle/phantom/soontir lists. The double tap is nasty but there are ways to avoid it if you fly carefully. Getting even two stress on soontir is nasty so when you face a rebel captive you either forego your extra action or just don't fire, which isn't ideal.
