I mean, it's mostly because there's a bunch of extra stuff, other hero fights, filler so the jumps seem less jarring from 'Beats one hero' to 'Now that I have defeated twenty heroes of A and above rank' So really it's more like padding but actually good???

It almost feels like you guys don't even read the comic and just go JOHNNY anytime he shows up .  Like how is this "OOC" of Johnny. Hell during this chapter with Johnny and Max, he acknowledges that Max is brave for staying in even if he is afraid. I mean with those words, Max got inspired to actually do something.
