Mu Zeta posted:It's pretty good but for $10 a bar it should be amazing. Yeah, the fact that the two bars I had were free helped. I'll preface that by saying I just bought three $8 chocolate bars yesterday for people as Christmas gifts (one of which is the cousin that gave me the Mast bars). I bought them mostly because Disney just opened a really awesome chocolate shop at Disney Springs and I went to go check it out. Bought a bunch of stuff for people for Christmas gifts and some chocolate coated sweet bread thing called Stollen that was loving delicious.

You're insane. It's very different tasting that the cold brew in the bottle usually stocked next to it. In a bad way.

My local whole foods has the stumptown cold brew but no nitro cans. It looks like I'm going to have to live with adding nitro stout to my cold brew for the time being.

You could spritz chilled espresso through a whipped cream gun. It makes an effervescent drink filled with nitrous bubbles that's really nice.

The recipe I follow is: 2 shots, mixed hot with 1 packet turbinado sugar. Chill in a metal container submerged in ice water for about 5 minutes. Load into your charger, spritz, enjoy.

Londoners: Prufrock in Leather Lane has a massive batch of fresh roasts from Stockholm's Drop Coffee, which is easily the hottest roaster in Europe right now. Worth dropping in to grab a bag before they go. The Rwandan Kigoma is good, strong notes of lingonberry and cranberry, very tart.

Nice guy... But yes, Drop is awesome. NYC people you can occasionally get it at Budin or at this place on Cortelyou Rd I forget.

21g of coffee to 340g water? He may have added more later but I got offended by the hipsterness around that point. I thought it was 10g to 250g?

Yeah the coffee:water ratio is like the only thing in that video that isn't terrible. 16:1 is pretty standard and people generally stay somewhere between 15:1 and 17:1. I tend to go for 15:1 persoally.

Any thoughts on decanting french press coffee after it's been pressed? Is leaving it in the press for a long time a bad thing? Sometimes the woman will make the coffee the night before, so she can heat it up and get out the door quickly (she leaves for work at like 5:15, so I don't really blame her). For some reason, this sort of grosses me out, so I've been thinking of pouring it off into another container to hold it until we drink it.
|
# ? Dec 25, 2015 23:39 |

Remove it immediately after pressing. That's like cooking an egg in the pan and then leaving it there for hours after you finish cooking it. It's going to get rubbery or burned.
|
# ? Dec 25, 2015 23:41 |
|
Yeah, if you leave french pressed coffee stewing on the grounds too long it'll get real, real bitter. Just get yourself a thermos if you aren't going to drink immediately.

Its surprisingly not that bad the next morning, but of course, it's way better fresh. I'll get something to keep it in.

I have a vacuum-sealed caraffe for holding big french-presses and I would recommend it. If you pre-warm it before you add the coffee you might not even have to reheat it in the morning!

Trip report on the Breville Grind Control: Solid machine for people that don't want to deal with a separate grinder and scale. You can adjust the strength and grind but it's on an arbitrary scale. Good enough for my parents to get off the KCups. Cleanup is a breeze. The unit is attractive enough to stay on the counter. Feels solid and the controls are easy to understand and use. A bit on the pricey side.

I just received first Aeropress, and after doing a bit of research it seems like there are a million different ways to use it. I personally have only tried a couple recipes so far, including the recommended one in the instructions. My personal favorite so far has been 20g beans in 205g water, for 2 mins and then a slow press. Made a really strong, sort of syrupy sweet cup, almost like a coffee liqueur if that makes sense, I diluted it with a dash of water and it tasted pretty much like an Americano. I used water straight off of boil, but I'm at elevation, so that's only 200f.

I had some bulletproof coffee today and it was good. It was at a place that used sane amount of butter and regular coconut oil instead of whatever that dumb brain juice TM poo poo is and I'm pretty sure that made it more palatable because it sounded really gross to me at first.

I was in the market for a moka pot when I came across the Bialetti Brikka. Anyone have experience with this? It has a weight or something to increase the pressure of the water flowing through the grounds. I would have already bought it on coolness factor alone if it weren't twice the price of the regular Bialetti.

It seems like the instructions that come with it are just a starting point (and they only make a shot sized cup off coffee if you don't double it). The water temp seemed low to me as well.
