It's the old 80-20 rule. You get 80% of the result with 20% of the work (with 'polish' and bugfixing taking up a good amount of the remainder). So in Star Citizen's case, they may as well pack it up and refund the remaining cash.

Then you have the default ones where like someone earlier said, is hilariously racist and misogynistic. This is pretty much evidenced in every BLM article mentioned, the open prejudice against Muslims after the Paris and San Bernardino shootings, and one that resonated with me was that they thought Sikhs shouldn't wear turbans and do a better job of assimilating if we didn't want to be targeted by bigots after the most recent hate crime against one. exists for a reason. Remember, this is the website that had to remove its child porn subreddits under duress because folks there somehow couldn't find anything inherently wrong with something called r/jailbait.

So it turns out I actually have a star citien acct I had forgotten about with a basic ship that I brought well before i was aware of the issues. Decided that I ought at least give the game a try. loving thing just crashes on load up. My machines not great, but its not terrible either. It'll run Ark, which is notorious for smashing peoples GPUs on 30fps, its got plenty of ram and so on. But it just crashes without even giving me a reason why. I'm giving their tech support a day to fix this or I'm mashing the refund button

3 posted:exists for a reason. Remember, this is the website that had to remove its child porn subreddits under duress because folks there somehow couldn't find anything inherently wrong with something called r/jailbait. reddit.com really is the worst website on the internet. If nothing else it's worse than 4chan sites because of the downvote/suppress comments thing. Also 4chan's schtick was people could indulge their miscreancy anonymously, on reddit they're proud of it, smug about it. I don't know what's more off-putting than someone being proud of something he should be ashamed of. Reddit lets degenerates of every type create their own little one-opinion worlds, and i think they get accustomed to thinking anyone who doesn't like it can just shut up, they've been validated. Anyway I despise those people. I don't know why Conde Nast keeps reddit around, they're a pretty urbane and sophisticated company. They publish the New Yorker and Vogue. Architectural Digest, Bon Apetit, Vanity Fair. And then there's reddit.com, cesspool, contrary to any worthwhile idea, an active force for bad in the world, hanging like an albatross around their neck. hakimashou fucked around with this message at 11:31 on Dec 31, 2015 |

Well, therein lies the whole thing about 4chan and reddit. The former is a very outdated dinosaur by this point, but the one thing it has always been is consistent with is its image. It's always presented itself as the scum of the internet, the phrase I remember of it and anonymous the most being: "Because no one is as mean as all of us." or to that effect. As hosed up as the site is, it's never had any kind of pretense about itself that I can see (other than some anons legit trying to think of themselves as the 99% or some dumb poo poo like that). Reddit, on the other hand, just oozes of this pretense, thinking that the upvote and downvote systems and their horrid moderation and consistent lying to others and themselves about what a scummy setup it all is really will go unnoticed by any person, that spends any significant amount of time legit engaging with and observing it. For random visitors it looks decent enough, but dig past it seriously in any direction and it's just a whole bunch of idiots lying to themselves and others and putting on pretentious airs of being better than any other internet community out there via populism and horrible moderation practices. SA has a lot of faults, and it's definitely not the kind of place I'd want to pledge my allegiance to (then again, that's true of any internet community past a certain number of people). But I can at least say it's not as outdated and dumbass as 4chan or pretentious and toxic as reddit. Hence I on it, rather than any other bigger internet community.

It's not outdated as such, it's an intentional stylistic choice, much like preferring SA's kind of incredibly old fashioned forum to... Whatever the gently caress you call reddit. i start gagging when i see nesting quotes. I gotta say tho I have respect for what the chans stand for.
