Emon can drop a bomb using any of the speed 3 templates, or the straight templates for speeds 1 and 2, while N'dru is throwing 4 turret dice (and gets to keep throwing them if they don't hit anything, and he isn't near anyone) with the other 2 Zs hanging around the Firespray. Is it good? Probably not, but I think it looks like fun. I could blow 4 more points to put cluster missiles on N'dru and have him throw 8 dice one turn (in range 1-2 with a target lock), but that's an expensive Z-95 that will get a gigantic bullseye painted on it right quick.

I like generic FOs for swarm builds. One of my favorite builds is 6 generic ties (2 regular with targeting computer slapped on, 2 FOs, and 2 Interceptors).

I don't have Wingman upgrades, so I'm trying to use Yorr as a stress magnet for Oicunn. Without an Ace or something, though, my gut reaction is that a Poe list will rip right through this. The issue there is that I have no Autothrusters. Or maybe I should just bring two generic TIE/fo and just not worry about soaking stress off Oicunn?

It really feels to me like Imperial big ships just don't have the survivability of Rebel ones; without some small ships to screen for them these will just get eaten alive.

I was thinking Gonk would probably do something with shields, but it's also worth noting that there's a Salvaged Astro in there which is named Over____ Astr____ and has been theorised to be overclocking astromech, which might also explain the extra shields.

You mean that they don't have the survivability of the millennium falcon. I find the YT-2400 tends to go pretty quickly and is equivalent of the firespray. The shuttle is way cheap and pretty survivable for its cost. The Decimator tends to go down to TLTs and that's it, but that is somewhat an issue with the millennium falcon as well

I've found the Decimator to basically melt under the assault of almost anything unless you put a lot into its survivability, and you're really not doing that when you're intending to ram people. And shuttles have terrible survivability IME.

The YT2400 dies quickly unless it's superdash and it arcdodges everything. Still dies to higher PS though.

The shuttle does blow up, but you have to think that it has twice the HP of an x-wing for the same cost and one less agility. Of course it is going to blow up but for the price it is pretty resilient.

One of my assorted list ideas for Ramming Speed Oicunn was him + 2 Ion Cannon Shuttles, but I play with friends who own everything, so I use their wangs, and they, being sensible individuals, refuse to own a second shuttle :v:

The biggest problem I've found with the shuttle is that it just can't turn. It makes a great first impression, but then it shows its spacebutt to everyone for most of the game as it slowly lumbers around - made even worse if you don't stomp all over the asteroids that will be in your path. I find Anti-Pursuit is important for it, if just because when someone inevitably starts harassing your boat you can hit the brakes and make them bump you a bunch.

It's always hilarious to put Expert Handling on a shuttle though.

You can turn reasonably well if you do advanced sensors + engine upgrade, but that's seven whole points predicated on the off chance you don't die on the first pass.

Must have expansions after the starters? I was going to grab the aces, TIE expansion for Howlrunner and the Decimator but I'm not sure what else to grab.

I think I'd take the Shuttle over the Decimator for a must have, since you can run an Omicron Group Pilot w/ Vader with just that expansion. The Decimator likes to have a lot of upgrade cards, which you may or may not have (I don't know!). Aces is good, but Soontir comes in the Interceptor pack, so I'd grab that as well.

He had that Tie-Phantom ship with mods and pilot adding up to about forty points. Turn one, we went towards each other, turn two, he ended up in 2-range of Wedge Antilles and a rookie x-wing pilot, both of whom had target locks on him. Wedge had swarm tactics.

Hes now in his room quietly crying and my wife is giving me that look. What a great game.

So some nice family members gave me some Christmas/birthday X-wing presents and I now have a flight of four T-70s in my collection. Since I'm still pretty noobish about the game, I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to take the Blue Squadron Novices? There's just enough in a 100 point game to take three with Blue Ace backing them up.

So what I'm wondering is how viable that list is? I'm used to running just a few ships (due to limits of what I have available) loaded to the gills with gear to total close to 100 pts. Are there any good tricks to running really low pilot skill ships like the Novices?

Swarms are all about raw numbers you get down the left for the points you spend.

The rebel swarm is BBBBZ. Just looking at the 4 Bs, 22 points gets you 3 red dice, 1 green die, 3 hull and 5 shields.

The T-70, for 2 points more, gets you 3 red dice, 2 green dice, 3 hull and 3 shields. So +1 Green Die, -2 Shields. Trades a guaranteed 2 extra hits for a higher chance of rolling an evade.

The golden standard of abilities is modifying dice, implicitly or explicitly. Poe can modify every roll he takes, making it a great ability. The Blue Ace isn't bad by any means, but it's not what I'd call a good ability.

I'd say swap the Ace for another Blue Squad Novice, put an R5/R2 Astromech and Integrated Astromech on all 4 of the ships.

Pictures of all the cards are available readily online, on the wiki and even in a lot of the articles ffg puts out so you could print them if you want.

Alternatively you could just use an online list builder and just print out the list so it is obvious what everything has.

Those two options are good if you and your opponents don't know what most things do yet.

I usually just tell my opponents that x ship has y upgrade before the game starts and they go "okay" and we get down to playing. Unless you are flying a really complicated list, like 6 tie aces that all have different upgrades it isn't too hard to keep track of things.

In the case of your 4 X-Wings it is easy enough to just say they are all the same. You don't even need to use a token for the 4th integrated astromech because you have to discard the r2 unit when you trigger the ability so it is obvious when you have already used it.

I didn't think it was gonna happen, really. I didn't read his card beforehand, I thought it was a lot tougher than it actually was. I offered to restart the game because it wouldn't be too much fun after a fluke like that, but the tears were already beginning to flow, lol. If you let your kids win all the time they grow up to be furries or anime fans. gently caress that. Also,that's my first time using Swarm tactics. That thing is pretty mean with Wedge.

BBBBZ is the typical Rebel swarm. It's 4 B-Wing Blue Squadron Pilot and 1 Bandit Squadron Pilot in a Z95 Headhunter.

The numbers down the left refer to the 4 numbers on the left side of the card - the attack dice, defense dice, hull and shield points.

Swarms aren't fancy, and don't count on an individual pilot being useful. They count on an overwhelming number of attack dice, and enough hit points (body+hull) to stay on the board for a while. You sly them in formation so their fields of fire overlap, and just throw 12 red dice every turn at one or two targets.

As for proxies, it's pretty open. For casual use, my preference is to basically print out a squad list defining each ship, its abilities/stats, and the individual cards on it. It makes it easy to make changes to the list.

You can also print nice, photo-quality images on card stock at size.

There's a lot of options, find what feels good to you.

Sure, they're a little too big, but I do this. I got enough sheets for like 400 cards for $5.

This is what I did, and I've got every single card for both Armada and X-Wing in a single notebook. Came out to like $15 total for notebook+card sleeves, and I've still got some extra space to go before running out.

Yeah, but if you beat them all the time they end up wearing came pants to weddings and flying the Southern Cross(even if you live in New Hampshire) you gotta strike a balance, man.
