I thought the whole thing about Touhou was that the IP was open source. As in anyone can make Touhou stuff and the only authority is whether or not people like it.

am I late to chart chat because the 0verflow games have an amazing chart. My favourite part is the Inou line on the right where it's five or six generations of the same father. Apparently Tomaru Sawagoe has like mind control powers and is immortal but needs power from his descents or something. I tried to look up the reasons behind it, but I found a snippet from one of the games where his daughter is telling her boyfriend they have to break up because she's becoming her father's wife and I decided I didn't want to look any further. Have some other fanart  Jasmine from Aladdin as a slug for... some reason  Someone's Yoshi fursona who wants to have sex with Captain Crunch.

There's a few more, though they never really directly appear since part of Touhou is that it's supposed to read something like a Alice in Wonderland-esque fairy tale thing, meaning it just kind of runs on a non-serious internal logic that you try not to think too hard about and instead just enjoy the pretty bullet patterns and such. As mentioned above, you've got the shopkeeper. There's also Youmu's grandfather, Konpaku Youki, who is a retired gardener/bodyguard of Saigyouji Yuyuko. Since he's half ghost, he eventually aged while Yuyuko remained stuck at the same age. Youmu, somehow also half ghost and apparently has a pair of parents from somewhere, took up his job and is busy trying to be far more serious than the rest of the cast because of the samurai code and such.  There's Genji, the old turtle that Reimu used to ride on until she learned to fly on her own. He now just lives at the shrine, also retired.  There's also a tengu chief that all of the tengus work for, but he's never been seen and rarely mentioned. I think his name is Tenma. But yeah, as you'll notice, they all take a sideline and if you keep wondering about this, well, it's a refreshing change from things usually being male dominated.

Honestly, the biggest reason Touhou is so popular is that people are given so much freedom to make fanart of it, and some of said fanart just knocks it out of the park. Especially with respect to music- it's great enough that you have something as kickass as Ghostly Eyes as the default, but when some genius takes it and turns it into Deep Night, it makes people want to find out more, you know? Or maybe people look at the character designs, see how untypical they are for the usual Japanese nerdbait fare (seriously, compare Touhou to, say Kantai Collection), and get interested. At least that was how it happened with me- I thought Flandre Scarlet's wings looked cool, and it was all downhill from there  EDIT: Ramos posted:There's a Touhou image for that.
