Every candidate needs to submit their own delegates...otherwise, even if they win a district, they will receive no delegates for doing so. The Hillary left is literally incapable of responding to this other than flaccid accusations of similarities to 90s talk radio. If Trump (or Cruz, I suppose) is smart he hammers on this repeatedly while pointing out Hillary's extreme hypocrisy and power-grasping. The political climate today is much more conductive to this sort of thing than it was back in the nineties and we've already seen that decades-old crimes will deservedly come back to bite a Bill C. in his rear end.

The general will be closer than most people thought if the Republicans can properly handle this. The issue is if the Republicans can survive the primary intact and be able to move past prior differences and unite their efforts for the general. I have my doubts whether this is a plausible situation for either Trump or Cruz.

During the Jeb! town hall tonight in NH, a Trump supporter asked Jeb why he thinks Trump is a jerk. Jeb began by saying a few nice things about Trump, like how he should be allowed to celebrate his successes and how he has stripped this election of its political correctness. Then he closed by saying that Trump made fun of that handicapped guy and that was more than Jeb could handle.

I know this is an unpopular position to take, and I enjoy Jeb schadenfreude as much as the next guy, but I think Jeb is going to gain some traction in these next couple weeks.

Anyway let's get back to making fun of the guy.

The issue is if the Republicans can survive the primary intact and be able to move past prior differences and unite their efforts for the general. I have my doubts whether this is a plausible situation for either Trump or Cruz.

And this is precisely why Trump said schlonged when he did - note that Trump's strategy has consistently been to say something controversial that grabs attention but has a niggling little qualifier of a defense to force his opponents to take a stand on his terms, dividing and confusing the opposition and maintaining control of the narrative. With schlonged, it turns out NPR used the term...with deportation, he cited Eisenhower, and so on. The whole point of saying schlonged was to bait Hillary into bringing up sexism, which worked. In this way, he positions himself as the nominee (Trump vs Hillary), pre-emptively attacks and defines her greatest asset (Bill), and captures the media narrative. I'm not saying it will work, but the man is a pathological narcissist, not an idiot.

Consider his "ridiculous" announcement with the escalator: his comments about rapists etc immediately divided the opposition and grabbed attention. He doesn't need to pay people to cheer anymore. Once his opposition takes the bait, he says "fair is fair" and begins work on repeating a few points all listeners are intelligent enough to understand in such a way as to attempt to influence our emotional understanding of his opponent...with Jeb! it's low energy, with Perry it was stupidity, and so on.

With Hillary, it's going to be lies, and stuff related to Bill. Is she competent? Can we trust her? And so on.

I'm not speaking in support of Trump or predicting he'll win, so no one needs to worry about feeling defensive, but the "he's just a moron" thesis seems less and less credible the more he continues to behave in a consistent way that results in strategic benefit.

The downside to this mindset, should he win the general, is that this leadership/decision making style is how you end up firing the generals and committing suicide in a bunker.

His goal is to either neuter Bill or keep him scared enough to not really threaten him.

In my opinion, the best way to destroy Trump is to attack him personally with the same justification - the presidency is too serious of a job to risk a man who grows his hair out really long from the back to pretend he isn't bald becoming president, and so on. Mock him, treat him like a joke, laugh at him at the debates and otherwise talk to the audience as if he weren't in the room but about him. Speak with calm, confident reassurance, and otherwise show the viewers that the Donald has no clothes. He certainly has talent, but is damaged to the point of beyond fixing psychologically.

Pay attention to his pattern of media interaction and you'll see he really does operate with a strategy, which may or may not work.

It'll be hard to make this work for people that aren't already going to vote for whoever the GOP candidate is. Anyone over thirty has already heard all of this before and the people that haven't aren't likely to side with the person attacking the wife of a dude that might be a serial adulterer. Sure, it's great for the primaries, but is a huge risk in the general.

I'd suspect they'll just let Rush and the rest of the AM crowd run with it and maybe throw in some Vince Foster, but anyone other than Trump is probably going to avoid anything direct.

The thing to remember is that a lot can happen in the month before the caucuses. A good debate performance or particularly bad gaffe can swing polls rapidly.
