So today was a pretty good day. Even though it was rainy and lovely all day, I got work inside, and the company gave us the other half of our Christmas bonus today: And on top of that the boss specifically said not one, but two things I do are now going to be the new company standard. 2016 is off to a pretty fantastic start.

scuz posted:If A Guy wanted to score a part-time-only gig at a garage for extra money (my paycheck is plugging 3 holes in a 4 hole boat), and all he's done so far mechanically is kinda basic (replace head gaskets, repair tires, change oil, replace suspensions, brake work), how would he go about making his case to said garage? My naive brain is wondering whether a garage would need A Guy to do piddly time-consuming-brain-numbing work over the weekend. You could also try part stores. You have automotive experience and want part time, so you would have a decent chance of being hired. Trust me, it doesn't take much to get hired

Just been out to see Hateful Eight and have a few beers with a friend. Loved it. If you like Tarantino and/or westerns, go see it. Tried some Brewdog Tactical Nuclear Penguin. It's interesting, but not really my thing, I think I'll stick to "normal" beers and whiskies. Would go well with a nice steak, though.

Oh, pro rear end chili tip: use a dark beer, coffee, or Mexican Coke for liquid (or all 3). Also dump some chipotles from a can into it.

I'm working at the NAIAS this year on the FCA stand. The cars arrived today. I want a Viper ACR so loving bad right now, holy poo poo. I can justify spending £90k on a car which has the steering wheel on the wrong side and costs almost $1/mile in gas to drive....right?

The beer is pro, I've used Newcastle and it worked pretty well; by some fluke I bought 12 bottles instead of a six pack, but I didn't let them go to waste... cooking chili is a long and thirsty process. A can of roasted green hatch chilis is good too but it looks like Enourmo roasted his own which is even better.

My old friend Mr. Check Engine Light dropped back in. The first time I looked at O2 sensor data, it looked like both sensors were working. I looked at them again tonight. The rear (post cat) sensor is stuck pretty close to full rich: I guess maybe the rear sensor did take a poo poo. The only way I could get it to budge was by downshifting and coasting, which shuts off the injectors (both sensors would go full lean when I did that, but the rear one lagged significantly). Going to change it and see what happens. Just can't seem to figure out if NTK or Denso is the OEM, Rockauto claims both of them are. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 06:54 on Jan 9, 2016 |

I don't understand chili sperging. Cook it however you want, who cares. The people who get especially wound up about chili don't seem to give the slightest poo poo about any non-chili items they put in their mouths.

Now I'm hungry you fuckers. I got a call today that was both good and bad news. I was on the short list for a job (good news). Out of 250 applicants (bad news). For a job with a 72 mile commute (worse news). I only applied because I have to apply to 5 jobs a week to keep my unemployment flowing, but I basically told him that unless there's a partial telecommute option then to just take me out of the running. I feel like a serious rear end in a top hat for both turning down an opportunity and wasting his time but I would kill myself after a few months of that drive. But now I'm second guessing because if there were really 250 applicants then it looks like the job market is actually terrible for mechanical engineers in my area. Again. This is basically a repeat of the last time I got laid off. I beat out 125 guys for my last job. And it always happens right as I'm about to get ahead. Unemployment, while better than nothing, is a loving joke. I was almost out of my consumer debt and now I have to supplement unemployment with credit just to pay my bills. Never mind that I'm bored as poo poo so my mind goes instantly to spending money on cars which only makes the situation worse. At least the job market appears to be picking up post-holidays, there were a lot more new jobs posted this week than in the last couple weeks of december. And who knows what other companies are just now getting around to calling people like me who applied in November? Fingers crossed that I don't have to join the "gently caress 2016" crew.
