Voting opens today, actual Splatfest is next weekend. Also if you start the game during Splatfest you are directed to the voting booth. There is no escaping Splatfest, it is literally the only playable game mode when it's on.

I find the w/friend multiplayer in this game pretty interesting. Ranked you can have your buddy just tool around with you, its ranked so get-poo poo-on. But you CAN play together in casual unranked but just in the same lobby, often on opposing teams. Its a sort of clever way to deal with organized teams just stomping the crap out of casuals. Although I guess Im not 100% sold on it as I sometimes do just want to play casual with my lovely friends on the same team without having to deal with organized teams curb stomping us.

This is bad. I'm starting to miss Arowana Mall.  It wasn't that bad of a map, really. You just had to push HARD into the center, and that was something a lot of people couldn't get.

It's a bit strange. They announced they'd remodel Urchin Underpass back then, but this - nothing but silence. When Famitsu did their Splatoon poll back in July, Arowana Mall was the second least favorite map. (Bluefin Depot was number one. Figuratively speaking. Although they never removed that from the roster so far.) I guess Nintendo looked at it, saw that it has a tendency of suffering from map lockdowns and decided to take it off for alterations or worse.

I think Arowana Mall would be improved by a netted/grated walkway on both sides of the center hill, bridging across from the bottom. This would allow players to sneak around the hill into flanking position, but slowly enough that the hill could get taken in the meantime as a consequence. Maximal play would require reading the map, while scrubs would slow down their teams trying to hide from the scary ol' hill. It would also make run speed matter a little more. I avoid run upgrades like the plague.

I have never played on the mall. Skatepark is my level of most dislike though. Especially splatzones right the gently caress beside each other

Maybe if we tweeted them a bunch asking where the mall is they'd release an official statement, like "we got rid of it" or "we're retooling it and it'll be rereleased with ancho-v games" or something.
