I liked pretty much everything he's put out so far and stuck his name to. American Ultra was a fun indie mumblecore take on Metal Gear Solid, Chronicle was also really excellent, and his internet video short films are fantastically entertaining and engaging. He has a strong sense of story structure and how to tinker and meddle with narrative arcs in interesting ways, he's clearly passionate as hell about everything he does, and his "arrogance" is tremendously overstated.

It's why a lot of his big, dramatic, climactic, up-to-eleven finales fell flat for me; he was better at wringing more drama out of something like the Doctor sending Rose back to the 21st century in "The Parting of the Ways" than he was at "FIVE MILLION CYBERMEN VS FIVE MILLION DALEKS". There was a kind of kitchen sink dimension to it that I don't think you really get with Moffat; by the same token, I think Moffat tries to do that but he's better when he's doing the "outer space fairy tale" thing.

Some of it was filmed where I live, if I remember right. If it takes a similar loose approach, which knowing Landis is quite likely, then it might be all right. I like the books a lot, but I don't really think they would work as straight adaptations. Would rather see people try new things with the premise and characters. It could be just bad, though.

Finally got round to watching the Christmas special a couple of days ago. Quite liked it. Also Greg Davies as a giant megalomaniac space tyrant was inspired casting. Also River revealing that she pinches the TARDIS quite often, and the Doctor doing the whole bigger on the inside reaction thing. And I'm glad Capaldi and Kingston finally got some scenes together in Doctor Who. I'd say the primary thing was Sherlock's continuing realization that his relationship with John not only helps him deal with his own self-loathing/self-sabotage, but make him both a stronger and a better person and a more complete human being. They softened the edges around Holmes in season 3 but it did feel very much like it was happening on an intellectual level only, and I think the special helped to show that Holmes is actually genuinely improving as a human being rather than theorizing on it like an interesting thought-experiment: I feel like his wedding speech and his little game with Mycroft demonstrated that Holmes was still detached from the self-improvement he was supposedly undergoing. Also I loved all the little nods to the classic ITV series visuals

They did Heaven Sent this season. I don't know that you can get much more downright bizarre than a truth torture moving castle with a roving corpse where the doctor dies a billion times.
