One thing that bugs me (it was the same for EU/EW) is that attacks that make multiple actions in one go still don't combine or fluidly change the animations. I mention this, obviously, because of the grenadier's chain shot ability shown off in that skill break-down. You pop chain shot, your character shoots once, goes back into cover, then leans out and shoots again. I wish they'd just lean out and unload for both actions before going back into cover because it looks sort of goofy as it is. Maybe it's something that can be modded but I guess ~we'll see~

E: Beagle made some non-specific remarks about the cover system changing, and Quill keeps talking about getting "better angles" on enemies - have they made Aiming Angels the default now?

You can get a 'good angle' bonus to aim (like 20%) without actually getting a full flank, although it seems to depend on range + angle so you won't get a good angle from a sniper, but you can in close quarters (but haven't seen enough to know yet)

It seems to be reduced by the plot missions and stuff they can't show. You can see Dark events that add 1-2 bonus progression, so there's clearly gotta be missions that reduce it fairly often or you'd be stupid to ever stop another Dark event.

There are regular "ADVENT has built a new facility" notifications, I've noticed. I'm betting destroying those facilities pauses or reduces the bar.

Well, for EU/EW at least, the game was completely non-sexualized. No skimpy armor, no goofy flirting, absolutely nothing like that. Simply having breasts on a snake-monster isn't really sexualized either, but it's really weird and people see it as sexual in some way, so that's why it got a tiny bit of attention.

They kicked me out of the Steam thread so I'm gonna start asking EU/EW questions in here while I play the game :v:

I'm playing on Normal, just got to April 1st with about $700 total, thanks to two lucky requests for satellites, one of which I was going to fulfill anyway to stop panic. Besides an aborted game years ago, though, this is about the furthest/best I've gotten. Is there a general guideline on what order to research/build things from here on out?

Also, on Normal, I know the AI is shackled a bit to not always make optimal decisions, but I've heard that the actual RNG is jiggered in my favor, such that 40% shots are more like 60% (:xcom: poo poo aside). Is this true or just rumour? My ineptitude with strategy games is one thing but having RNG jiggered just feels patronizing :(

I believe the specific cheat is that the more shots you make at a target, a pseudo-holotarget effect is applied that makes you more likely to hit. Conversely, the more shots the enemy make at an individual soldier, a reverse holotarget is secretly applied to make them more and more likely to miss.

Man, nations can request satellites? The only requests i ever get is, like, give us 4 ghost grenades.

And yes, on Normal your true chance to hit is x1.2 times the displayed value.
Additionally, for every missed shot in a row, you get +15% hitchance (on any shot that has at least 50% to begin with), until the next time you land a hit. Similarly, every shot the aliens hit in a row decreases their aim by 10%. :v:

If you want to play without Confirmation Bias Counteract Measures, you need to play on at least Classic difficulty.

edit: Actually, the above only holds true if you have 4 or less soldiers on the field. So when you use the Squad Size upgrades, this goes away. Well, until you start losing people again. :v:

Yeah, I had it happen once early-game and they were willing to pony up like 300 spacebucks for it so I was like "yeah sure, I can do that." Once you've got every nation either covered by satellites or pulled out of the project they won't request it anymore.

Yeah, the RNG is discreetly hosed with behind the scenes when you're on Normal or easy.

On normal with 4 or fewer soldiers your chance to hit is 120% of displayed value
For hits that have at least a 50% chance of hitting, chance to hit is increased by 15% (absolute) per consecutive miss, with no upper limit
Alien chance to hit is reduced by 10% (absolute) for each consecutive hit.

If it disappears as soon as you have 5+ people on the field then it's basically meaningless. You can get the squad size upgrade in around an hour of play and there's no reason to ever go back down.

Yeah, I just reread and noticed that part. That's good enough for me, if still quietly annoying.

(Aside, I always find anti-frustration mechanics like this ironically frustrating. As someone who is also pretty new to XCOM, my approach to Classic (once I found out that Normal holds your hand like that, I feel you) was to skip the tutorial and disable the little side-missions (because let me tell you, when the game doesn't prepare you at all for the fact that sometimes Thin Men are just going to rain from the loving sky out of nowhere, that is a degree of bullshit I wasn't willing to deal with just then), then proceed to grenade the living hell out of everything despite Dr. Vahlen's protests. Grenade-spamming is honestly a great way to ensure survivability in the early game as well as giving your guys the XP they need to get some crucial level-ups.
