I think 6 is pretty strong prior to them leaving the prison, but even then the later parts of the prison stuff really drag and don't do anything. It has an aggressively mediocre villain who shows signs of personality, but those are sacrificed so he can be a generic smug jojo villain. Its biggest strength is the central 3 characters are really cool and good and dynamic and Weather Report is cool too, but it doesn't do enough with them in the second half and a lot fo them fall to the wayside as Pucci becomes a more and more prevalent character.

I thought SBR dropped the ball with the supporting cast. Too many unceremonious deaths and dropped characters. Like Poco seems like he solely exists to be a punchline for the epilogue and then there was that old guy who was purely a red herring for that one fight.

I would definitely rate Part 5 higher than some of the other parts because it knows its strengths and plays to them a lot. So much of it just oozes style and so many of the fights are cool and inventive and as dumb as everything gets once they enter the coliseum, the chapter where Requiem walks out of the Coliseum is one of the most amazing things Araki has written. It's just unfortunate the actual fight is stupid and full of shenanigans.

Oh yeah Trish is boring as poo poo. It definitely has an issue with giving its cast something to do since despite being the protagonist, Giorno does not get nearly as much action as Bruno does and the group doesn't really feel like this tightly wound unit despite what some earlier chapters imply.

Matt, if you're interested, here's how the enemy types work based on the party members that can take them on in FFX: The tiny four-legged enemies (dogs, lizards, etc.) have high magic defense (which is why Lulu can't do much against them) high agility, but low defense, which means any character that has high enough agility (Titus) can go up against them. Wakka and Kimahri can, too, but Wakka deals less damage than Titus and Kimahri is a bit slower. Auron can't do anything to them because he's at the old old age of 30-something and slow as gently caress. Flyers (birds, eyebats, etc) have high evasion, so characters that have high accuracy have the best chance against them. This is why Wakka, being a ranged physical attacker, is best against them and why they typically have low HP. Lulu can tangle with them, too, but most have elemental resistances. Armored fiends (big lizards, etc.) just have a special buff that gives them higher defense against non-piercing weapons. Auron and Kimahri are the ones meant to fight them, but Auron has way more attack, which is why they also have big HP pools. Again, some can be taken on by Lulu, but they have ranging magical defense stats, so it's best just to keep Auron in the frontline. Magic fiends (flans, elementals, bombs) have high defense but low magic defense, catered to being fodder for Lulu. Physical weapons with elemental-strike buffs can do more damage, but I believe they still do weak damage to them. Big dudes (Garudas and such) have medium defense, magic defense, physical attack, etc. and high HP. Now, this is meant to bring Yuna out to Summon her big dudes, but you can still just blind/silence lock them and deal with them with your normal party members. And then there are other fiends (shrooms, basilisks, etc) that don't fall into these categories but still have their own mechanics you need to get a feel for. In fact, the way FFX sets up with party members is kinda neat. Titus is the quick-hitter of the party. He hits foes fast, allows the team to easily flee battles, and gives the team, um, bleetzbol-based buffs (Haste, Higher Attack, Higher Defense, etc.) A great combo, since he can get the team ready for long battles right out the gate. He also gains access to Slow. Okay, he's the time-mage, which is kinda fitting, looking at how he came into his predicament. Wakka is the ranged attacker and crowd-controller. He can't hit hard, but he can hit far, and gets access to blinds, silence, etc. Again, best for long battles. He has his own buff he can apply to the party (Aim = Higher Accuracy) but it's not worth taking or using. Lulu is the black mage. That's pretty much it. She can increase the team's evasion. Yuna is the summoner and white mage. Heals, cures ailments, increases magic defense, dispels effects, and has Nul-spells to deflect certain elemental spells for the party. Also has a higher magic stat than Lulu (for Cure to heal more, pretty much), which is why she can take over as the black mage later in the game. Auron is the tank and debuffer. Slow but hits hard, higher HP than the rest, and decreases the foe's stats with his skills. Can even take an attack for another party member. Kimarhi is the blue mage and jack-of-all-trades. Learns special abilities from foes, has spear for flyers and armored fiends (cuz it's long...and pointy...yeah, I dunno), and he's completely useless. He's a filler role. Again, fitting for his role in the story... We have one other enemy type and one other party member, but that's for next time. Okay, go back to your animes and baby vs. daddy games.
