I mean, Nick is just continuing its downward spiral where it's filling its schedule with too many different stuff and the new animations are kinda buried while Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents keeps going on way too long. CN and Disney Channel/XD keep giving nice emphasis to their new IPs when they get them, Steven Universe became a hit and Gravity Falls got Disney to keep asking the creator keep it going. There's some remaking stuff and banking on IPs that were going on before they got 'em but there's a good balance, I think, enough properly new things by new creators being made compared to the last, like, decade.

Besides, even back in the day they shied away from anime and it was Cartoon Network and network TV that was airing it.

I remember that one as the one with Jason Alexander and Cheryl Hines as Cosmo and Wanda, though according to YouTube they only had one scene which seems like a colossal waste of talent. :I

He also had a delightfully hosed-up and very politically incorrect sense of humor that was not what you'd normally consider kid-friendly.

Because of that, I remember being genuinely shocked (but also excited) when I heard that Nick had greenlit a show with him at the helm. Pity the actual show was so drat bland and inoffensive.

Once upon a time, I think lots of folks were content to just see a character like them, period. Since then, I'd say the bar's been raised considerably, and I think a lot of people have developed a very keen nose for pandering, condescension ("oooh you're so inspirational!"), and tokenism.

I appreciate what it's going for, but it does nothing for me. My kids don't particularly care about it, which I guess is just as well since it seems like CN has mostly buried it. Not sure if that has anything to do with the creator turning out to be a creep.

Do they not do mini marathons of it? The creator got kicked off partway through the first season, as I recall.

The only thing I want out of Nick's nostalgia trip is some new Danny Phantom stuff. That was a good-rear end show until Butch decided it was too good and butched it on the third season. I just spent a long amount of time tracking the complete series dvd and looking at production numbers and episode orders to make myself a list of the appropriate viewing order.

I feel like you can only do the "Timmy fucks up somehow and loses Cosmo and Wanda but some loophole allows him to get them back" so many times before it's like, alright. I can only suspend my disbelief with this comedy show about wish granting fairies so much. Also I still can't believe they added a fairy baby??

They also updated the intro at some point and while it's mostly the same you can tell that the animation just feels kind of lifeless in comparison to the original (the song itself is still great though):

If they're not going to take a shovel to FOP like they should then they need to at least mix up the format a bit.

Like, I don't know, maybe they could do the anime time skip thing and switch focus to the baby ten years later. He can be all mature for his age while Timmy is now a spoiled manchild still solving all his problems with magic. Then one day Cosmo and Wanda peace-out and dump the job ofOH GOD DAMNIT my brain just wrote a whole series bible for this thing and I dont even like the drat show.

They've added a baby, a dog and another godchild (i think, there's a new girl i think her deal is that cosmo and wanda will also be godfathering her or something) they're mixing up the format as much as butch hartman is capable of.

Looking back it looks more like it was just a rumor, but apparently Butch got real into Christianity at some point while season 2 of Danny Phantom was developed, which lead to him using even more conservative views on his shows (including moving away from the ghost stuff, by making the "ghosts" be less of spirits and more just creatures from another dimension with huge powers) and thus butting heads with most of the writing team of the show. However I find no evidence of it so maybe he was just always that much of a christian and simply got too big an ego and pushed his stuff more while ignoring other's opinions.

if he was super conservative wouldn't he go in the other direction with it? making them alternate dimension beings runs counter to the whole idea of there definitely being an afterlife or the concept of a soul

that dog doesn't hunt nor make much sense, the entrenched christian worldview reinforces a spiritualistic view of them, not the other way around

"Ghosts" as in the spirits or souls of dead people separated from the body existing anywhere other than Heaven, Hell, and, depending on the denomination, Purgatory, is against Christian theology.

Hartman is a born-again Christian, though according to this, the timing of his religious awakening doesn't match up with the rumor about it affecting the development of season 2 of Danny Phantom.

Never heard about the born again Christian stuff with Hartman, but I do recall him being really angry about rule 34 for Danny Phantom. I thought it was more to do with most of the characters being 14 from what I read back then though.

I just remember it had a hilarious ending. The idea is that in a fit of anger at Christmas Danny destroys a manuscript being written by the Ghostwriter, and he gets his revenge by writing a new manuscript, with Danny as the main character intending to kill him. The story is entirely in verse. However, when the other ghosts find out what's going on they side against Ghostwriter because they observe an truce between Ghostzone and the human world on that day, one that Ghostwriter just violated.

During the climax, this happens to break the rhyme, and therefore the spell, courtesy of Skulker's cunning:
Ghostwriter: "And then he picked up an orange... OH SHOOT NOTHING RHYMES WITH ORANGE!"

Commence beatdown. :3:

I always consider Ultimate Enemy to be the best Danny Phantom related thing though.

Like I said earlier, that would have been a weird show to bring back since it had a definite ending that tied things up. It even had a jump to the future where the characters were married and had kids.

After, but all of season 2 was practically finished just around the time he became an usher in a church if that has something to do with stuff. The most drastic change in Danny Phantom is that for the first two seasons it was mostly written by Marty Isenberg, Sib Ventress and Steve Marmel (all three of them sharing writing credits in the Christmas episode) and they were fired before scripting the third season started (Marty and Steve were also producers on the show on top of being writers)
