With our special guest star, RUSH! YAYYYYYYYYY

I've never been a massive fan of the boss/Pierce singalongs, to be honest. Yeah, I like hearing the voice actors goof off and I now know all the lyrics to the 7" edit of Opposites Attract, but the scenes themselves always felt a bit forced. :reject: I much preferred the way the boss would just randomly start singing along to Take on Me or whatever as you were driving around in SR2.

Zinyak ruining Biz Markie was pretty good, though. Zinyak is great in general, and he got even better when I found out he was voiced by Dojima from Persona 4.

...He is? Oh my god.

I'm not really into the singalongs in 3 and 4, just because I didn't really know the songs in question; I loved that in SR2 I was singing along to Everybody Wants To Rule The World myself, and then stopped for long enough to realize the Boss was humming along too.

I did like the fact that it reflected quiet character development between SR2 and 3, though. Pierce does get a singalong at some point in SR2 (I think it's in a Brotherhood mission), but unlike in the later games nobody's interested in being a part of this bullshit. By SR3, though, the Boss and Pierce are best buds.

Yeah. Those were little details you could discover, and the bits in 3 and 4, while they really are well done and good characterization and all that, are clearly there because someone said "people on the internet love the singalongs, we need singalongs in Third, let's make sure no one misses the singalongs. Hey Lou how far is the team on the singalongs, they're a milestone in this whole project".

Although what really bugs me most is that the drive in SR3 that has the singalong lasts roughly until halfway through the first verse. They recorded the whole thing and if you want to hear it you'll either park the car right before the mission marker and then sit there awkwardly and just listen, or drive around aimlessly doing your best to ignore the mission blip on the map. Should have had an objective that takes roughly as long as the song.

I basically only ever heard classic rock until about 2002 when I discovered Daft Punk by improbable chance. If What I've Got ever had any regular play here in Adelaide, it was before I was listening to any of the stations that would've played it.

I never actually got the sing-alongs to trigger in SR2, though I did know about them, so having them be scripted at least made it so I could know what everyone else was talking about.

My favourite is

quote:

Zinyak: *Laughs* "Look at you... Mercutio to my Tybalt..."
Boss: "Don't be too excited, Tybalt dies at the end."
Zinyak: "I'm surprised you knew that."
Boss: "I didn't, Kinzie told me over the radio."

Well, either that or

quote:

Boss: "Sorry, I don't really follow American hip hop."
Zinyak: "It's a quote from Macbeth."
Boss: "Sorry, I don't really follow Scottish hip hop."

It's in the Samedi mission where you shoot down the helicopters while Pierce drives you around. He sings a Ne-Yo song and the Boss makes fun of him for sucking. They bicker over who has control of the radio in a few other missions too.

I just finished replaying Saints Row 2 this week, so much fun to play around with the pimp cane/orbital launcher/mjolnir.

Anyway, what order do you guys usually do the 3 gangs in? In my first time through, I did the Sons of Samedi and Ronin first, and then once I finished those two, I did the Brotherhood storyline, which really made Maero come across as a dick.

also i forgot how much i hated that donnie mission

That's the order I tend to run it myself. The Sons, because they're right on the Saints' doorstep, as it were, then the Ronin to lock things in, then finally the Brotherhood. Sure, it makes Maero's offer sound all the more insulting, but with his ego, it almost fits.

gently caress, now I need to do an SR2 playthrough once I finally get though my backlog and finish up GoOH.

Edit: In regards to Zinyak, I loving adored how he constantly prodded at the team during the various Loyalty missions. It showed just how overwhelmingly petty he was, even as he tried to mask it in his pretentious attitude. He hosed with Biz Markie, messed with Matt's fanfic Expanded Universe Fiction, and the like, all in an attempt to appear the all-powerful, sophisticated Overlord, and it made shutting him down all the more satisfying.

Plus, the buildup to the final fight has he and The Boss quoting The Transformers Movie. There is literally nothing that can make me ever view that as a bad thing.

I did them all simultaneously, switching every mission, until there was a reason to focus specifically on one of them.

So I killed off the Brotherhood first, then the Ronin, then the Samedi (who don't really do a whole lot to hurt the Saints in comparison).

I usually do Brotherhood, then Samedi, then Ronin, because Maero's offer doesn't make sense if you leave him till later and the Ronin feed right into the Ultor stuff at the end, but the actual best order is all three simultaneously. Do one mission for each and repeat until done. The only reason I don't do that is because I find the pushbacks annoying and doing them simultaneously means you get three times as many.

Byzantine
Sep 1, 2007

I like to do the first Brotherhood mission because it's so obviously a "first mission", then go rob the Ronin casino and launder the money, then Samedi, Brotherhood, Ronin. That way, after getting insulted by Maero, the Saints make a big showy comeback but none of the blood feud plots have started up yet so you don't feel like you 'have' to keep bashing the Brotherhood or Ronin and can go with the comparatively lower-stakes Samedi line. It also slowly builds Vogel and Ultor up for the endgame.

L and R are used for aiming and lock-on, respectively and you need the D-Pad to switch weapons and crouch, so you should probably stick to an actual controller for this.

It's not really playable on a psp. You aren't gonna load it up and see anything resembling a complete game. It's purely a release for the sake of curiosity rather than a hidden gem to play.

I've got it loaded up and it plays "fine". The controls are kind bad (blame the PSP here mostly I think), the driving is funky, yeah sure. But it has functional missions and combat and even has some cut scenes with Gat calling you up to do a mission and whatnot. Honestly for a scrapped game this is way more functional and complete than I imagined it would be.

Hold look and press dpad left to teleport around to missions, by the way. Also you can get weapons such as GARDEN GNOME and HOOKER STILLETTO BOOT.

So yeah it's a pso game.
