Beer4TheBeerGod posted:The existence of these guys is so secretive that Imperial Guard regiments (ie regular fodder) who fight alongside them are typically executed or sent on suicide missions afterwards. Of course the fact that the Grey Knights only typically fight daemons means that any Guard regiments fighting alongside would be mass executed anyway as a precaution against the spread of Chaos. Stuff like this is what puts me off WH40K, it veers too close into 4th Stimpire territory. Why would anyone continue to fight for these rulers, they don't seem that much better than the Chaos they claim to protect humanity from. The guys that come out looking least evil are those mecha dudes and they still plan to genocide humanity through sterilization. Might as well embrace Chaos and to hell with everything.

Beer4TheBeerGod posted:Man, CIG really does love the idea of quantity over quality don't they? Well yeah. At least they can produce quantity. And when I say “produce”, I mean “promise” (and by that I mean “dream of”) — actually producing it would require effort and coordination, which is another idea that they really love, but can't quite turn into reality.

With globalization and modern, on demand marketing there is no longer any real link between the effort and value of materials necessary to produce something and the asked price for it. Best example ? Cell phones covers. 0.003$ of extruded plastic and mold wear, 5 cent packaging, 3$ shipping. Retail price : 19.99$

Here's a Chris Roberts quote from November 2014 re Arena Commander server costs: I threw out my guesstimate with bandwidth costs which are negligible. For the Cry/Star/WTF engine gurus what is the maximum amount of players in a server instance? That is going to define the final calculations. But, $80K is chump change for cloud computing. Well unless you only have a few thousand playing it. And that's the kicker, that's what they had.

MeLKoR posted:Might as well embrace Chaos and to hell with everything. That's the Big Truth. The Emperor himself 'consumes' thousands of psykers that are rounded up to feed the beacon that keeps the ships of the Imperium flying. The whole thing is a massive set of horrific misunderstandings and chinese whispers to the extent where when Chaos Marines refer to the corpse Emperor, they could be right. Is the Empire just as bad as Chaos? Yeah, but the other races are a bunch of snooty elves that believe that all the other races are making it worse, Orks, which are a literal fungus plague that likes to fight everything and anything. Tyranids, biological von nuemann fleets that are the size of galactic arms, necrons, which are effectively terminators... It's really bleak, there's no winning, and yet they're going to expend everyone doing it. Fun thing about Chaos, they usually have a very clear view, just a terrible endpoint. The reason why Imperial Guard do their job is that they have no choice, cowardice is rewarded with a bullet. it's an allegory to World War I and the whole idea of using humans as the basic weapon of choice. They're given one of the shittiest weapons in the universe and usually soak up damage for your spessh marines. I can't help it, some of the lore is really, really dumb and appeals to tweens, but in other ways it's extremely elegant and hosed up, but none of it is really original. It's mostly 'homage du', and in some cases outright nicked. But I think it's great. it's like human history x 1000 with spaceships and power armor. That looks horrible, honestly horrible. It looks like one of those Gundam robot toys, but with most of the parts missing, so it's just this formless mishmash of sharp angles and doodads. What the gently caress is happening? edit: probably Sandi's idea to keep the humans separated by race also.

Not completely caught up yet, but do these AtV episode always follow this format? Is Sandi auditioning for a role as a news anchor or something? It's like "Sandi soundbite, Erin fill in, repeat x5 and ad-lib some witty banter" - I was half expecting Sandi to shuffle her notes when the camera cuts back to her and then at the end she'd turn to Eric for a muted conversation with lights fading out.... Hollow, bloated, over-produced, soulless and totally unfulfilling, much like the way the game seems to be going.
