I disagree with don't get into crafting, the method the game uses is far beyond what I've seen in any other game and is fun as hell to learn, and if you get all your craftings to 50 it isn't too painful, you get to make some real neat stuff, there are plenty of opportunities for high profit tucked away in lower level recipes, and you get to repair all of your own gear at any time and for cheaper than what the NPCs charge

If nothing else get a crafter to 10ish so you can do Ixal dailies when they appear, because they are trivial and give Ventures.

Getting crafts to 50 is nice if only to be able to repair your own gear past 100% using dark matter. I still think HW crafting takes far more patience than it deserves, but getting stuff to 50 is simple enough.

Compared to WoW there is almost nothing "neat" to make in this game outside of houseing and even that is pretty lame overall. I would be the crafter king if you could make stupid consumable items that change your race for a few minutes or let you put laser beams on people.

Actually that's kind of a good point. Why can't you make fireworks? Retainers can find them and they sell them during events, but they can't be crafted.

Clearly temporary race changes are possible: they had that Halloween event a while back where you could "glamour" yourself into Minfilia (amongst others). Why not add these to the game?

Do what you can to get on Excalibur. A group of goons ran me thru Coils 1-9 (The original raid from A Realm Reborn) and they did the same thing the day before. You'll get everything from gear thrown at you to goons begging you to let them take you thru a dungeon or three. FFXIV made it fairly lucrative to help out newbies and aside from the handful of times I've been on at odd hours I've always gotten help when I've asked for it.

There's actually a way to remove every piece of armor with glamour, although you should probably wear shoes because some of the races look odd without them.

How is the leveling curve for classes after your first currently? I stopped playing the game a year ago but I'm thinking of coming back. The story quests were the best leveling fuel but after your first character uses most of them up the additional characters felt much more grindy. I found running fates to be mind-numbing and levelquests aren't much better. I did greatly enjoy the duty roulette and dungeons are why I played the game, but your new lower level classes only start with access access to one dungeon so it feels like I've run Sastasha like 100 times now and never want to see it again. I was wondering if the game has changed on that front or if there's a better leveling method I just wasn't utilizing.

Hunting log gives you at least 4 levels per step, running a daily 40 second long guildheist roulette gives you something around 1/6 level, sidequests will work well enough for probably up to your third class, access to the best gear will make leveling real fast compared to the first time around

It's much much better if you level the alt classes slowly, so you can take advantage of things that give big chunks of experience for low effort but only once per day/week (notably leveling roulette, challenge log, plus some more options from 50-60).

If you try to grind out an alt class in a relatively small number of days, it'll be much more of a grind in terms of the time you're actually spending working on it because you're resorting to less efficient and more tedious options. So spending more active time in exchange for finishing by an earlier date, if that makes more sense.

100% armory bonus is kind of absurd with alt classes pre-50 and HW dungeon XP is fantastic when you get there (plus lots of FATE parties, Vanu dailies, hunts, 50DR, etc). I still prefer the LDR a day method but if you want to poopsock then it is pretty drat fast now.

National tragedy.
Just started the free trial of this game and I had a question about stats. I've placed my first 4 bonus attribute points in intelligence as a thaumaturge. Do those points stay there if I switch classes or are they class-specfic (so 30 points for each class rather than 30 x number of classes).

Also, is mind useful at all for me as a thaumaturge? I've gotten a few quest rewards with mind and vitality but the character screen implies that mind is only a healing stat so it seems like a waste of quest reward.

It's 30 points per class and they switch per class. And no, you only care about INT. Piety controls max MP but it's irrelevant, mind does literally nothing. Vitality gives HP but it's on the gear anyway, not something you buy the gear for. INT only, and a 2-handed weapon, not 1h+shield, that's a relic of old design choices that vanishes at 50 and sucks all the time.

Best option is to hit up a crafter. Goon FCs reputedly have people rabidly awaiting newbies in need of gear and will probably fight each other for the right to make you poo poo. Most non-goon FCs tend to have at least one person in them who likes crafting too. And to any vaguely leveled/geared crafter, making GBS threads out high-quality level 20 gear is both trivial and cheap and many will make it for free to help a newbie.

If you're feeling exceptionally antisocial and would rather spend gil to get normal-quality gear, I'd check with NPC vendors in East Shroud (Hawthorne Hut), Eastern Thanalan (Camp Drybone), and possibly Western La Noscea (Aleport). They should have gear in the 15-20 range.

It is well worth rerolling on or transferring to Excalibur if you just started. FF goons are awesome goons and super helpful.

Also please don't feel bad asking for help or folks to run content with. Worst case you just solo queue for a dungeon anyway but you can often get folks to come along especially if you make it known it is a newbie run. Older content is incentivised for people to run with new players and the class switch mechanic means that far more players than you might expect have classes that need leveling at the same level range you do.

Will confirm all of this. Whenever I've come across a MSQ to go to a dungeon, all I do is ask in /fc and most of the time a group pops up to carry my dumb rear end through. Had some really helpful folks up to now :)
