I played on the 360 and finished out as a Mystic Knight. I'm looking forward to trying a lighter and ranged class this time around. I even pre-ordered as a Christmas present for a couple of people that missed out!

I'll take an invite for the steam group, http://steamcommunity.com/id/Dantax_SA.

Looking forward to revisiting this game. I bought Dark Arisen on PS3 and beat the base game but never ventured much into Bitterblack or other postgame content. Game should be glorious with clean graphics and smooth framerate.

I've heard that the pc theme is different from the console one (Into Free, right?)

I haven't heard either so should I mod the old theme back into the game before my first playthrough?

The Dark Arisen theme is different from the vanilla game's. The DA theme is generic fantasy operatic woman, the old theme is bizarre and doesn't match anything else in the game so of course it's wonderful.

What is a dangan anyway? Just really badly pronounced way of saying dragon?

Also, I'm currently adding anyone who posts here to my friend list. Mind you, my pawn will be a horrible little goblin.

From some posts a ways back I think some modders on the leaked version did it, simple file replace iirc.

Ahhhh

Should I go back to my core 2H Warrior again? Smashing things into the ground.

Or should I actually try a Ranger this time, and shoot dudes.

Or should I finally make a magic user in one of these types of games, and go Sorcerer.

Or maybe I could start as a Strider, jump to a Sorcerer for a bit, and then eventually be a Mystical Archer.

So many choices!

e: How lovely a Magical Archer would I be if I just did Strider > Ranger > Magical Archer, skipping the Mage/Sorcerer vocations. Not a minmaxer, and I figure gear should be fine for my magic attack. Just checking. I've never been a big magical guy, especially though in games like this.

Wouldn't be insanely overpowered, but would still be very strong if you had a decent Magic Bow. Be sure to kill the dragon as a MA, will net you a powerful Magic Bow that will last you well into the post-game.

So, people that already played, any important stuff you can easily miss? I know that advancing the main quest will lock you out of some sidequests, any quests I should look out for ?
Anything worth keeping / collecting since the beginning, or should I just sell everything I don't use ?

Maybe some "Things you should know before playing".

(I know, "Just play the game", but while I'm not looking to go all 100%, I'd rather not skip great quests, ultimate weapons, miss important npcs, bosses, etc.)

I think the most notorious sidequest that you can miss is a mission to visit the Witchwood early on in the game. A lot of people miss out on it because there are some nasty bandits blocking the road you need to go down and it gets locked out shortly after reaching the main city.

As for general tips

-There's a mountain of MMO style kill quest DLC bundled into Dark Arisen that you can pick up at bounty boards. Be sure to grab them when you see them but don't bother going out of your way at all to complete them, let them just be a background bonus that you complete naturally as you play.

-Take note of the locations of any natural healing springs that you find when exploring. You can bring empty bottles to these places and fill them up with the water to create very powerful healing items that are basically free.

-Night time is extremely dangerous. Plan your excursions into the wilds accordingly.

One thing you might not notice until you've missed stuff with it. hidden in the venery district is a black market vendor. In addition to the standard rare expensive stuff, he can create forgeries of most items in the game. The forgeries have none of an item's special properties but are otherwise indistinguishable from the real thing. What you do with that knowledge is up to you.

the best things warriors can do are their long charge attacks and there's no way a pawn will ever land those on anything so i kind of feel like why bother

With the bulletin board quests, note that the ones that are fine to pick up ASAP are the "Kill Umpteen Critters" type ones. Those are the ones that will naturally complete as you play the game. However those boards also offer a bunch of escort quests that are not of this type and are most often a pain in the arse to complete successfully, so skip those unless/until you really want to do them - or at least until you've explored the map a fair bit.
