There's still the problem that someday--hopefully not soon--that Microsoft will stop support for Windows 7 and then I'll be forced to upgrade. And/or I'll have to pay for it. Upgrading to Maverics on mac was a little sucky and some minor stuff broke, but not massively like win 10, and I have way more programs and garbage on the Mac side than I do on the Windows side. And it's not User Error because I repaired computers for a while hence know what I'm doing. Windows has always sucked rear end. Oh and gently caress that "cortana" thing, it doesn't even properly replace the search, and the top results were always some ad from loving YAHOO! of all places. Why the gently caress is Yahoo! Integrated with win 10??? E: and I love win 10 setup where it tries to trick you into allowing them to send data to advertisers by writing out a long essay to explain some bs expecting that most people will be annoyed and lazy and hit "skip/next/express settings" and making the "customize" link tiny, but hitting express just says "yes" to "allow advertisers and Microsoft to collect my data." Oh and there's no real equivalent to Little Snitch on Windows. I got a similar program but it's nowhere near as good. Windows I swear I'm not some hipster apple loving loser, I would prefer to use Windows but it just sucks so much rear end in so many ways. My stupid job never pays me on time. It's supposed to be the first and the fifteenth of every month, but it is NEVER ON TIME. It's always some bullshit excuse, too. My favorite was December 15th, when the boss was going out of town to Christmas shop and so couldn't bother to sign our checks, even though she came into the office for half an hour for some other reason. I only got paid that day because I showed her my electric bill that was due two days later and asked her repeatedly to pay me, practically begging. She likes to torture us by withholding our paychecks, for whatever reason. "Oh, we don't have the money in accounting." "Oh, I am waiting till Monday", blah blah blah. EDIT: I just asked her to pay me, and she said that she doesn't do payroll until the night of the 15th. Bullshit lady. loving pay me! kreyla has a new favorite as of 23:04 on Jan 15, 2016 |

Mainstream support for windows 7, whatever that means, ended two days ago according to wikipedia. Extended support will still be available for four more years. No idea what any of that actually means, but I think we're good for a while longer. At the rate that they come out with new versions, I'm sure Windows 10 or 11 will be out by then. Maybe by 2020 I'll have enough reason to move on to a newer one (games no longer working on 7 is pretty much the only thing that would do it for me).

But I'm never going back to using Windows as my main OS. Even when I was using Windows exclusively I found a few things (especially updates) really irritating, and having now gotten used to Linux, Windows just seems like it's being annoying on purpose. At least in Windows XP there was always a way to just restart without installing updates, but in 10 I've had occasions where something wasn't working so I restart to see if that clears up the problem only to discover I've got to wait half an hour while it installs updates. In Linux, I don't need to restart. Ever. OS and app updates can be installed in the background any time and don't force you to stop what you're doing or restart the computer. Oh, and since I upgraded to Win10, Windows has taken to asking me for each file extension if I want to continue handling that type of file with the program I've been using all along or switch to something else. Can't we just assume that unless I indicate otherwise, I don't want to change things for no reason? If it weren't for all the games that only work in Windows, I'd see no reason for anyone to use it. Linux Mint is simpler and easier to use and far less aggravating.

I've been complaining about my neighbors making tasty smelling food. Due to jealousy, I've started cooking more stuff from scratch (usually I just eat salads and a TV dinner for lunch but now I'm making legit food), but it is coming out really tasty because it's very Russian-style (lots of butter) so I'm eating a lot, and now I'm going to get fat. Oh also I have trouble measuring how much food to make because I learned from my grandmother, and we cooked for 10 people at a time, so I always buy and make too much food. I made a dish today but there's a ton left, and I was planning on making cabbage and sausages but there's too much of what I made today so it's unreasonable to make more food. I'm worried the sausages will go bad before I get a chance to make them. E2: I really want those cabbage and sausages but I'm super full. Whenever I make too much of a dish I freeze some of it for later, pre-cooked frozen food can last for a while. My very similar first world problem is that I bought a bunch of snacks last time I was at the grocery store and so now I am eating the snacks and I should not be.

LITERALLY A BIRD posted:Learning to downsize portions from family-sized to one or two people is the worst. Whenever I make too much of a dish I freeze some of it for later, pre-cooked frozen food can last for a while. Generally I find the least feasible thing to split and see if scaling to the minimum amount of it would be at least a serving, usually this revolves around eggs because getting half an egg is just something I'm not gonna gently caress with. FWP: The instructions on the pancakes say to make 14 pancakes you need two eggs, so the smallest amount of pancakes I can make is 7, or 3.5 large ones. Either way it's just barely too much pancake. Also the pan and spatula are dirty so I can't make more pancakes but there aren't enough dirty dishes to make a full load yet, but I'm too lazy to loving hand wash them. This is less of a problem and just weird, but like 60% of the time I try to make cheesy scrambled eggs I end up spacing out and making an omelette instead. It's not like a pretty omelette, but it's all one folded over piece so I'm counting it. Someone else I know thought that was just how scrambled eggs worked and thought an omelette was something else but couldn't describe it. Someone got drunk during New Year's Eve and peeled one of the labels off one of the bottles of booze (it was probably me). It's some sorta flavored coconut rum, but I don't know what the other flavor is. There's distinctly rum, coconut, and then a third thing I can't identify. I don't think I bought it, it was just left here after everyone went home, along with some others. It's bugging me and I keep getting drunk.
