I'm not victim blaming poo poo, Rhyno's in the bullshit gap generated by the ACA being half-measures as written to placate the insurance companies rather than a single payer system which is what it should have been in the first place. That said, his option is sack it up and pay now and get health coverage for his money, or pay almost as much to the government in the form of tax penalties next year and still be at 'might as well shoot yourself' status if literally any major illness hits him.

88h88 posted:Health chat finally made me go and look at how much I actually pay for the NHS. Turns out a big fat £1000 a year or so, give or take. loving bargain. Yeah but come on, tell us the truth here - if you get really sick or injured the non-elected bureaucrats that make up the death panels tell you to go die quietly in the corner, and the wait lists for even the most routine of checkups are so long that visiting the doctor is pointless because by the time you finally manage to see a doctor your illness will have either run its course or killed you. You know - things that never happen in THE BEST HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN THE WORLD (tm) Seriouspost - we were never going to get single payer passed on the first attempt when roughly half the country believed what I posted above would happen when the ACA passed. I think that given the way the bill was passed they should have at least established a government-run option, but its going to take a political sea change before single payer could even be considered a possibility.

Never again will I have an integrated system, which is going to mean I won't be owning any thing newer than 2010-2015ish.
