SirPhoebos posted:What's the origin of Tapirs being associated with dreaming? There's a Japanese mythological beast called the Baku that's supposed to have a bear's body and an elephant's trunk - and the tapir was retroactively made to represent it. Kinda like how Kirin got associated with Giraffes.

Please stand by for an important bird announcement. This is a baby jacana. It is a wading bird that evolved to stand atop lilypads while searching for prey, kind of like snowshoes but for swamps. There are eight species in the jacana family. And this is an adult jacana. Unlike most birds, which leave childrearing either to the female or to be shared by both parents, the male handles most of the day to day care for the chicks. The male is quite devoted to the chicks. He will follow them around all day, teaching them jacana things, like how to defy gravity and balance on top of precarious water plants. In fact, he is so devoted that in times of danger he will carry them with him. This has been an important bird announcement.

Mulva posted:I'm an atheist, but if I were inclined to be religious I would choose Islam simply because of it's love of cats. It's kind of funny that you mention that, because this catholic church not far from where I grew up took in strays too and functioned like a rescue for cats. How they managed to keep a candle room in a place like that is beyond me but hey. Anyways, one of the earliest strays they took in never got rescued by anyone, and became the official 'mascot' of sorts for the place. They added a platform and bed right up on the railing near the pulpit and he'd spend mass either sleeping in it, walking the railing, or watching the crowd. My grandma loved him, and would always bring toys and treats for him and the other rescue cats. Anyways that's my church cat story. Like work cats, but 5% more devout! When I was little one of our barn cats ran off and we last saw her hanging out at our Catholic church. I just assume that a place can't be all bad if it's full of adorable cats. (not my cat)
