I give the 4J the edge because of where the missiles are mounted (the hard points in general) and the speed of the HBK. The 7M is an extremely close second. Excellent choice. The 7M can't min max as hard though, because it relies on its derpy arms and has not as optimal hardpoints as the 4J. Also, the 4G, 4P, and 4SP are actually good and worthy of getting the mastery on the HBK line. The rest of the Trebs are trash.

Really, the point of the whole LRM thing should always be:

DONT loving TAKE A STALKER OR SOME OTHER ASSAULT FOR LRMS, gently caress YOU, YOU TONNAGE WASTING SHITBIRD. Don't even take a Catapult. Its too slow and stupid.

Saw a pubbie driving a 1x medium laser, TAG and 5x LRM 10 with artemis Shame Stalker earlier today. Pretty much all of his missiles were hitting gently caress all because world geometry means a lock isn't the same thing as an automatic hit if you press the fire button, but clearly that sort of thinking was hocus pocus martian voodoo.

So to echo what has already been said, don't be that pubbie.

In fact don't even use LRMs ever. You want a long range weapon that does good damage which you can fire forever? Get AC/5s and never look back.

Sale, yeah. I have c-bills to burn and 4m isn't that much - I'll easily make it back basicing it out. I spend cbills to screw around with mechs, and the awesome was one I used to play a lot. I haven't had one since beta and i'm curious how they hold up now.

They're actually pretty cheap for assault mechs. 5.9 mil after doubles isn't that bad, and its not like I won't make it back.

I wanted to give the commoners awesome a shot maybe, and srms are always great. Whats so garbage about em?

8q is quirked out the rear end for ppcs, but i could still not make it work though that could be because i'm real bad at assaults.

From my experience with mastering Awesomes (this is before they did the dynamic hardpoint thing, by the way)...

  • Their arm hardpoints are pretty loving low. Only some other robots can compete in knuckle-dragging. If you put weapons in your arms you are going to come to grief with sloped terrain.
  • They have some pretty interesting quirks to compensate for being fat and goony. They all have bonus CT/LT/RT structure though it doesn't do much when you're fat and goony, and most of their weapon-based quirks range from "decent" to "pretty good".
  • The -8T has a pretty :pwn: 30% energy cooldown and good missile quirks, but again, low arm mounts and only two missile hardpoints. I suppose you can kit that into a bigger, fatter Hunchie 4SP with 5xMPL and 2xASRM6, or trim some armour and go 4xLPL if you don't mind hating hills (alternate left and right LPLs accordingly). It runs hot even with 18-20 heatsinks because of the amount of fire you poo poo out.
  • 8Q and 9M are, IMO, decent laser vomit Awesomes if you want to play one due to abundance of energy hardpoints and passable energy-based quirks. 8R makes for good SRM vomit and the laser quirks are great, too; I had some good times with builds like this. I suppose you can lurmboat with it because of the LRM15 quirks but eh. No.
  • I have little/no experience with the 8V so can't comment. I might fix that once I have the C-Bills lying around to burn.
  • Don't buy the Pretty Baby.

It might be good to wait for the rescaling pass before buying the robots and see how they hold up then.

I've said it multiple times:

No arm armor, 3 ML, 2 LRM 10, one BAP in hunch,

TAG in head
Get at least 1000 ammo somehow, maybe more, depends on if you can postion yourself to survive or not.
Fill with heatsinks (you only really need about two), you can take armor out of left torso/legs to meet cooling needs.
Artemis is not required, but you can run it if you want.

BOOM, you go 90kph, can reposition and effectively never get caught since your team is only a step away with all your speed. The HBK chassis allows you to almost twist 180 to maintain lock, you BAP counters light mechs that come up to your team, gets locks faster, you have TAG in your head to hill hump, you have 3ML quirked heavily for range, you have 2LRM 10 quirked heavily for smashing.

I get loving 400 damage minumum every game and take up a paltry 50 tons. I can squirt out missles faster than any other "boat" in the game, even more so with the module and 2x skills w/ fast fire. Light mechs will not gently caress with you as you twist 140 degrees to look back at them firing 3ML with cooldown quirks while running towards your team if you somehow get "caught."

The HBK-4J is the perfect mech for LURMING. It is a LRM boat.

Try to prove me wrong, I'll show you the avg damage per game stats and mine will be better than whatever you run, gauren-loving-teeeeeeeed.

source your quotes.

My most played mech is this AWS-8Q. The arm MPLs are good for shooing away clueless lights so you can vaporise them with your PPCs once they are out of the 90m min distance. You can sort of brawl with the PPCs too thanks to the -25% heat from quirks, just be mindful to keep your distance. But preferably you are just behind the true brawlers absorbing stray fire, helping them kill stuff or keeping the enemy snipers heads down with relentless PPC fire.

The -9M I don't like, because its quirked for ERPPCs which are garbage. The quirked PPCs on the -8Q are almost equal in dmg/heat to LPLs so they get a pass in my book. The ERPPCs on the other hand are way too hot and the extra range is not worth it.

I bought the -8T after looking at its quirks and put 4xLPL on the arms and i'm already regreting it. They are just so low and wide they make everything harder than it should.

So I skimmed through the past 15 pages and made a Google Spreadsheet of recommended "good" robot builds that goons have made itt without getting flamed over it. Then I added my main SCat builds because why not.

http://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PusOUjb4BAAcrM9hHZwGHYh7HVrQD9qBJzPyIrJbIHI/edit?usp=sharing

If this goes anywhere (and if it's maintained), future goons can just refer to the spreadsheet and Ctrl+F their robot for recommendations. It also has a link to the original post for context sake.

If you want to help maintain it, send me a PM or something with your fake porno gmail account or whatever and I'll add it to the whitelist.

That is way outdated; an AC20 and 3 SRM6's with Artemis, medium lasers and standard engine to taste (a 325 at minimum). Some people take medium lasers, some don't.

fake edit: I feel like I shouldn't have to say 'keep the ECM too', but I'm gonna say it anyway

real edit: Having gotten the opportunity to play it on a map that isn't loving Viridian Bog, the 6xLRM5 Mad Dog is A-OK by me. I should probably have gotten a hunchback 4J for my lurm shenanigans, but I just don't want a fourth hunchback. Or do I?

Question: Is it better to run an active probe or tag on a streakcrow? I feel like tag in the head is the better option for chasing ECM lights, but I don't have the money to swap my stormcrow over yet, so I figure I might as well just ask.

The marauder pack is good, the warhammer is not proving itself well currently but that's in part because there's hordes of them. The origins pack (hunchback) wouldn't be a bad option either.

This is the closest that PGI has ever brought me to wanting to give them money, even if it's Steambucks. The Mardi Gras Shadow Cat is my dream.

I felt bad that I saved up $12 in steambucks to buy Squad at a good discount. It's a decent game but the community is poo poo and there aren't enough active goons over there.

For a moment, I was beginning to wonder if I made the right choice to take a video game over this paint job... but then I snapped back to reality, pulled my head out of my rear end, and realized that I was about to pay $12usd for a loving video game cosmetic. Whew! You almost got me there, :pgi:. Better luck next time.
